As I walked around and saw so many worthy charities, it made me ponder how people choose which nonprofit they should support with their hard earned dollars! Many people wonder how much of their donation makes a REAL difference. At Hallie Hill, the answer is very clear. The overwhelming majority of each donation directly supports medi- cal costs, food, supplies, and daily needs of the animals in our care! To provide quality nourishment for over 200 dogs and cats, Hallie Hill goes through nearly 90 pounds of food per day. A donation of just $12 can provide food for one animal at Hallie Hill for a full month! While every donation at Hallie Hill makes a difference, to provide absolute transparency, we have created a separate fund called the MAGIC Fund which stands for Medical And Geriat- ric Intensive Care. The donations made to this fund are used exclusively for animal medical costs. A donation of $80 can cover a dogs spay or neuter surgery. A gift of $10 can pay for a cat or dog to be microchipped, $20 will cover the cost of their annual vaccinations, and $15 will purchase a months worth of arthritis medication for one of our many senior dogs. Our mission at Hallie Hill is to provide a loving home for animals who may not have been adopted because they are elderly, or have behavioral or medical issues. We do everything we can to make each one healthy, comfortable, and happy. With time, many of the animals here can find adopting families to love and cherish them, but we want to ensure that Hallie Hill is still around for many years to come - providing quality and loving care for the ones who arent chosen. Please consider giving today, because every dona- tion makes a difference and is very appreciated - no matter the size! Thank so much, in advance, for your support of our important work! Happy October Everyone!

Recently, Hallie Hill participated in Lowcountry Giving Day 2017. Over 140 nonprofits were gathered at Joe Riley Stadium to raise awareness in the community about their individu-al causes. As I walked around and saw so many worthy charities, it made me ponder how people choose which nonprofit they should support with their hard earned dollars!

Many people wonder how much of their donation makes a REAL difference. At Hallie Hill, the answer is very clear. The overwhelming majority of each donation directly supports medi-cal costs, food, supplies, and daily needs of the animals in our care! To provide quality nourishment for over 200 dogs and cats, Hallie Hill goes through nearly 90 pounds of food per day. A donation of just $12 can provide food for one animal at Hallie Hill for a full month! While every donation at Hallie Hill makes a difference, to provide absolute transparency, we have created a separate fund called the MAGIC Fund which stands for Medical And Geriat-ric Intensive Care. The donations made to this fund are used exclusively for animal medical costs. A donation of $80 can cover a dog’s spay or neuter surgery. A gift of $10 can pay for a cat or dog to be microchipped, $20 will cover the cost of their annual vaccinations, and $15 will purchase a month’s worth of arthritis medication for one of our many senior dogs. Our mission at Hallie Hill is to provide a loving home for animals who may not have been adopted because they are elderly, or have behavioral or medical issues. We do everything we can to make each one healthy, comfortable, and happy. With time, many of the animals here can find adopting families to love and cherish them, but we want to ensure that Hallie Hill is still around for many years to come - providing quality and loving care for the ones who aren’t chosen. Please consider giving today, because every dona-tion makes a difference and is very appreciated - no matter the size! Thank so much, in advance, for your support of our important work! Daddy’s Girl!

Andrea Zicarelli Every non-profit organization wants a volunteer like Andrea Zicarelli!! Her love of the animals is very apparent, her heart is as big as Texas, and her smile genuine. Andrea’s many contributions to HHAS are most appreciated. She never hesitates to lend a hand wherever needed and recently used her talents to paint the artwork on our new doghouse display that was featured at the Low Country Giving Day event! Andrea is great with the public and does a fantas-tic job of promoting the mission of Hal-lie Hill. A networking expert, Andrea is a facilitator of all things good! Through her contacts she has brought us many adopters, countless dona-tions, and new volunteers. Many thanks from all of us at HHAS for all you do!!

grown up here, is very affectionate (on her

terms) and loves to deliver head bumps!! Boo

would be a perfect addition to your family

this October!

ChaChi!

ChaChi is a 7 year old male and is special in so

many wonderful ways! Being blind and having

3 legs does not slow him down one bit!! He

bonds very quickly and loves cuddles, he’d be a

great lap dog! ChaChi is Jennifer’s favorite res-

ident but she’d love to see him in a ‘furever’

home all his own!

Linda!

Linda is a beautiful girl, 7 years old, currently

living with a foster family. She has learned so

many wonderful things, and now wants a fami-

ly to call her own! She is housetrained, likes car

rides, and loves human companionship com-

plete with scratches! She is very calm and gets

along well with other dogs. Give her a home,

today!

Petunia!

Petunia is 5 years old and looking for a loving

owner with a fenced in yard to call her own!

She is a bit nervous in new surroundings and

would like her owner to be confident and dog

savvy! She is housetrained and would love to

warm your feet in the cooler months to come!

Come to Hallie and meet sweet Petunia, you’ll

love her!

Microchipping your pet involves implanting a chip (integrated transponder that is about the size of a grain of rice) in pet’s shoulder area. The procedure is similar to receiving routine vaccinations and most pets do not react. The microchip does not use batteries but is energized by an electromagnetic field produced by a microchip scanner. It is important to understand that a mi-crochip is not a tracking devise or GPS. It cannot be used to trace your pet. When the microchip is scanned, it reveals an alphanumeric code that is unique to that pet and it will last the life of the pet. As indicated, the chip can be read by scanner at most animal shelters and veterinarian’s offices and is an excellent way to reunite lost pets with their families – as long as you insure the chip company is updated with accurate information.

Cats often do not wear a collar or any type of identification. While most dogs wear collars with ID tags bearing owner information, the ID tags can fall off and collars can break. Should your pet get loose for any reason, the microchip provides an extra level of security that increases the odds of your pet’s return.

If a pet becomes lost or displaced and ends up in a municipal shelter, animal control facility or any humane society across the country, its fate could be disastrous if that particular facility is not a no-kill facility. However, most facilities are committed to scanning pets upon intake and will make an ef-fort to reunite a microchipped pet with its owner.

Here at Hallie Hill Animal Sanctuary all of our pets are microchipped when they arrive if they do not have a chip. This adds a level comfort if ever the animal runs away or is lost! Some of the websites that provide information about microchipping are Home Again, Avidid, 24 Pet Watch, just to name a few.

Sophie Gamand is a French award-winning photographer and an-imal advocate living and working in New York. Since 2010, she has been focusing on dogs and our relationship with them. Sophie travels around the U.S. photographing shelter dogs for free, to help bring awareness to their fate, and help them get adopted.

Ms. Gamand will be joining us at Hallie Hill on Tuesday, October 17th, to take portraits of our shelter dogs!! She chose our facility from all of those in Charleston, and we are thrilled to welcome her!

Her most known series are Wet Dog and Flower Power, Pit Bulls of the Revolution. She has won several prestigious photography awards for her work (including a Sony World Photography Award in 2014), as well as advocacy awards for her dedication to animal rescue and adoption. Sophie's work has been published in the press worldwide, online, and in print (Buzzfeed, Huffington Post, Oprah Magazine, ....). Her first book, Wet Dog, came out in October 2015.

To Welcome Sophie Gamand!

“ I have been donating photography time and expertise

to numerous animal shelters and rescue groups. I am de-termined to change the way we photograph shelter dogs, and the way we perceive them. These photos aim at giving shelter dogs their dignity back, and celebrating the begin-ning of their new life: a life of care, love, comfort. “

‘It’s a Dog’s Life’…by Minnie and Sue Winder!

Newsflash: “A dog tossed away up north ends up doing very well after finding a home in beautiful South Carolina! Now she knows excellent care and kindness for the very first time!”

Good Day Hallie Hill friends! My name is Minnie. Well really, I came to

Hallie Hill with the name “Cinnamon” but Hallie Hill already had a dog

with that name. So, because of my cuteness, they called me Minnie. I did-

n’t mind my new name as I needed a complete new start after what I had

been through up north! A caring person found me in an abhorrent condi-

tion with scars and injuries on my body. An indentation marked the place

where a rope or cable had grown into the skin around my neck. You can

still see the scars to this day. I was saved from that shelter just before I

was to be euthanized. Saved in the nick of time, as they say! I was really

scared when I got to Hallie Hill because I didn’t know what was happen-

ing. After some time, with the Hallie Hill staff and volunteers visiting me

and speaking softly to me, my heart began to melt.

They all took such great care of me, even when I could not love them back. I was a resident in the

barn for a while until I was well enough to go out to the dog enclosures. Now, one could say that I

have a face “only a mother could love”. OK, I am not pretty, (although I’ve heard a few folks

think I am!) but I sure am special! Oh, how I enjoy those rides on the golf cart and going for

walks. Did I mention, I love to chase a ball?! And, you really must see me run! It is hilarious be-

cause I tuck in my butt and scoot my back legs together kind of like a kangaroo or a frog. You

should see them laugh like crazy when I do this! It’s all part of my Minnie charm!

I have my own pen and I like it that way. We tried to pair me with a roommate, but I was afraid

and felt I had to protect my water bowl, food, deck and doghouse. I didn’t get into any fights

mind you, but it was obvious I wanted to remain a single lady. I do enjoy my neighbors and often

visit with them through the fence! So, I think I will do best as a single dog, BUT, I would make

you a fine watchdog! I mean, just look at me…stocky build, tough as nails, and a face that would

send people running. (HAHA) Don’t worry though, I love my people, no problem there!

Yes, I am short and stocky (not fat!), weighing about 40lbs. Although I have been here a few

years, I am still one of the younger canines who lives here at Hallie Hill. You won’t be sorry

when you take me in. I’ll make you very proud! See you soon! Love, Minnie

Field Trips with Brian Stiles!! Brian often takes our dogs on a ‘field trip’ off of the Hallie property

to acclimate them to car rides, new environments, new people, and to

work on leash skills and following commands. They LOVE their

time with Brian, and we are sure that it has NOTHING to do with

the visit to Hardees at the conclusion of each trip! Thanks Brian!

Mission Statement Hallie Hill Animal Sanctuary is a 501c3 that provides sanctuary for dogs and cats with no other home or shelter, rescues and cares for animals in need of assistance for the remainder of their lives, including providing proper shelter, nutrition and medical care. What we do:

1. Provide respite and rehabilitation for dogs and cats preparing them for adoption, and a loving forever home to those unable to be adopted.

2. Perform community outreach in our area of Hollywood and Ravenel, two of the under served areas of Charleston County.

3. Provide food, medical services, spay/neuter, vaccinations and general wellness care.

4. Provide long-term care and a loving, final home for those animals whose adoption may be difficult due to age, medical or emotional issues.

5. Reinforce the human component of the human/canine/feline relationship in a respectful way by recognizing and honoring the fact that people’s

love for their animals transcends economic circumstances and cultural differences.
