Pupils visit Liverpool mosqueBARNSTON Primary School has taken part in a special visit to Liverpool’s largest mosque, to
learn about Islam and its place in British culture.
Children from the school visited the Al Rahma Mosque in Toxteth along with the Mayor of
Wirral, Cllr Les Rowlands, to meet representatives of the place of worship and gain first-hand
experience of Islam.
The visit was arranged by Wirral Council’s Minority Ethnic Achievement Service (MEAS),
which aims to celebrate inclusivity and promote cultural awareness in schools and the wider
community.
As part of the trip, the Mayor was presented with a silver mug with his name engraved on it.
The Mayor of Wirral, Cllr Les Rowlands said: “It is important, now more than ever, that
people understand different faiths and the role they play in our communities, and also see
for themselves this beautiful building and what it means to those who use it.
“It was the first time I have visited a mosque, and we received a wonderful and gracious
welcome. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would like to thank our hosts.”During the visit, the children watched a ‘Wudu’ demonstration, the Islamic act of preparing
parts of the body before formal prayers are said, and learned about the Arabic language
and examples of famous
Muslim scientists and
physicians.
They also observed prayer
time in the mosque’s
main hall, and heard
a presentation by the
mosque’s Education OfficerCatherine Odita about Islam
and the significance of
the different areas of the
building.
Tuyet Ramzy, Ethnic
Minority Consultant for
MEAS said: “Multicultural
trips and events make a
big difference to our school
children. It is imperativethat our teachers are
aware of stereotyping,
discrimination, racism,
ethnicity, multiculturalism
and culture diversity, and
that this awareness is
reflected in the curriculum.
It is vital to promote
inclusion, multiculturalism
and diversity in ourschools.”

Cloudy2Clear Windows
– Service With A Smile! It’s been a crazyfew months forCloudy2Clear Windows. The company whichspecialises in repairingwindows which aresteamed up, broken ordamaged by replacingthe panes – not theframes has grownrapidly as homeowners
take advantage of theirservices. Managing DirectorAlan Ball feels that it’sall about service. ‘Ourproduct is simple. Ifyour double glazing ismisted up we can replacethe glass at a fractionof the cost of a newwindow, in any type offrame, and with a new5 year guarantee. But
it’s not just about saving
people money, althoughthat obviously helps. Many tradespeople havestruggled since last yearand I honestly feel thatduring the good times aminority perhaps didn’tfocus on customer careas much as they shouldhave done. We make surewe turn up when we say
we will, do the job thecustomer requires andleave their house as cleanas a whistle. I often getcomments back fromcustomers on how theyreally didn’t expect thatsort of service which,in a way, is very sad forthe service industry as awhole.’ Cloudy2Clearservice Heswall & the
surrounding area and
Alan is fnding that hisapproach is a majorfactor in his success. ‘The truth is that it’snot just the personalsatisfaction that I getfrom doing a good jobbut also it makes goodbusiness sense. I get ahuge amount of businessfrom friends and family
of people I’ve donework for, which justgoes to show how mucha little bit of effort isappreciated.’ So, if your windowsare steamed up, brokenor damaged give Alan acall for a free quotationon 0800 61 21 118 andhe’ll be happy to help!

LEGAL MATTERS
For further information please call Jackie Campion on
0151 342 9021 for a no obligation quote.
A Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) gives
another individual the legal authority to
look after specic aspects of your nancial
aairs or health and welfare should you
lose the capacity to do so. It’s not just for
the elderly; younger people may becomeincapacitated through accident or illness.
If you do not have an LPA in place and later becomementally incapacitated, relatives may face long
delays and expense in applying to the Court ofProtection.
There are two types of LPA: one that can coverdecisions about money matters, known as aproperty and nancial aairs LPA, and one that
can cover decisions about healthcare, known asa personal welfare LPA. A key dierence is that a
property and nancial aairs LPA can be used while
someone still has capacity, whereas a personalwelfare LPA can only be used once they have lost
mental capacity.
A person administering a property and nancialaairs LPA can make decisions on matters such asdealing with your bills, running your bank accountsand investing your money. If they have a personalwelfare LPA, they can generally make decisions
about where you should live and how you should betreated medically.
At Campion solicitors we will give you clear advice

WHAT IS IT?
The Bowen Technique is a remedial, hands-on therapythat is applied using very gentle pressure.
The practitioner uses thumbs and ngers on precisepoints of the body to perform Bowen’s unique sets ofrolling-type moves which stimulate the muscles andsoft tissue of the body.
There is no manipulation or adjustment of hardtissue and no force is used. The experience of a treat-ment is gentle, subtle and relaxing.
It is believed that the Bowen Technique promptsthe body to reset, repair and balance itself and clientsreport the experience of pain relief, improvement of
function and recovery of energy.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
One of the least understood areas of the body is the
brain.
There are something like 600,000 signals that travelfrom the brain into the body every second and these inturn come back to the brain with information which isthen interpreted and sent back out.
In the case of the Bowen move, the brain is unableto do this instantly and needs more informationto form a response. As it is, just when the brain isasking for more info, the therapist has left the room, and therefore the brain has to send specic signals tothe area in order to gauge a response. If the client islying down, the immediate response is nearly always
rapid and deep relaxation. The client will also oftenreport that they feel a tingling sensation or warmthin the area just worked. “It felt like your hands werestill on me,” is a common comment. We believe thisdemonstrates that because the move is out of theordinary, the brain is looking for information about what happened.
HOW LITTLE IS DONE!
One of the more dicult elements to come to terms with is how little is done during a session. In addi-tion, the client may well walk out of the treatmentroom having felt little or no improvement over andabove a sense of relaxation. However, the reactionsto Bowen in the days following a treatment can often belie its soft and gentle approach. Stiness, soreness, headache and feeling like “I’ve been run over by a bus!” are common. All excellent signs, they demon-strate that the brain and body have started the processof repair.
This process, when started, is generally rapid andit is not uncommon for even longstanding pain to be reduced or resolved in two or three treatments. Most sports or work-related problems can often bedealt with within the two or three treatments, makingBowen not only good remedial treatment, but costeective for the client as well.
MIGRAINES
Although musculoskeletal problems such as frozenshoulder, back and neck pain account for the majority
of conditions brought for Bowen treatment, it canalso be helpful with more organic problems. Clientshave reported signicant improvements with asthma, migraines, irritable bowel, infertility and other repro-ductive problems. Even hayfever has been brought toBowen.
There are no such things in this life as guaranteesand this can be said of Bowen as well. If the bodyresponds to the treatment, then it can and will startthe process of repair. If it doesn’t respond, then noharm is done.
PLEASE NOTE:The Bowen Technique is not a substitute for medical treatment. This information is not intended to replace guidance from your doctoror other suitably qualied medical professional who should be contactedfor advice if you have any health concerns.l Editorial courtesy of ECBS (European College of Bowen Studies)

Greetings from HeswallFor over 40 years the Rotary Clubs of Heswall and Varde in Denmark have been makingbiennial reciprocal visits. Heswall President Bob Fiddaman went over to give greetings from
Les Rowlands, the Mayor of Wirral, and a former member of the Heswall Club.
Pictured from left to right, are Kristian Hede Jensen, President of the Varde Club, Erik Buhl
Nielson, Mayor of Varde and Bob Fiddaman, President of the Heswall Club.
Twitchers’ delight at wader festival
THE first ever Wirral Wader Festival took place on the Dee Estuary in November.
The idea was to celebrate the vast numbers of wading birds that spend the winter on the
peninsula’s shores. In partnership with the Dee Estuary Voluntary Wardens, Wader Quest, the RSPB, Cheshire
Wildlife Trust and Shore Cottage Studio, a full weekend of events took place at Wirral
Country Park, Thurstaston and the Dee Estuary.
Wader Quest’s Rick Simpson said: “There are annual celebrations of wading birds in the
shape of a festival across the world on various continents. We noticed a distinct lack of a
wader festival in the UK so decided that something should be done to address this.
“We are firm believers that conservation starts at home, and although we didn’t know the
Wirral very well, after learning about the remarkable efforts of the Dee Estuary Voluntary
Wardens (DEVW) to protect the thousands of birds roosting on West Kirby and Hoylake
beaches at high tide, we were inspired to look further.”

NORWEGIAN WOOD
By LARS MYTTING
Who knew that a book
about chopping and
stacking fire wood would
be so popular? With
the insurgence of wood
burners this is definitely
the book you need to
get the perfectly stackedlog pile. I haven’t got
a wood burner but the
book is beautiful and full
of humour, which is an
odd thing to say about
a book that is basically
about chopping and
stacking wood. Lovely
pictures of perfect wood
piles and the Scandi-style that everyone
seems to love.
WALK THIS WORLD ATCHRISTMAS TIME
by DEBBIE POWELL
A wonderful book that will
enhance children, it has lots of
illustrations and flaps and so much
to wonder and talk about it will be
a book to keep forever. Christmas
is celebrated in diverse ways in this
country…does anyone else have
fried chicken and sweet corn forChristmas lunch like we do?
No I thought not! I have lived
in various countries over the
years and each once had their
own unique way of celebrating
the Christmas, all with their
own different traditions. Walk
the World At Christmas, shows
illustrates all the strangeness but
also the similarities that we share
with our world family.
BOOKSwith LINGHAM’S BOOKSTORE, HESWALL
By Kerry Keight
The leaves have fallen off the trees and though it is unusually mild, there is one word I have to say to youCHRISTMAS! We get really excited this time of year because of all the lovely special new books and once again
it is VERY hard to choose which to review.
But after much deliberation and book sniffing (admit it you do too) I have chosen just three gorgeous books, so
come on by and see the rest.
We have one special event and that is our annual visit from Father Christmas.
This year it is on Saturday 19th December at 11am put it in your diary!
ALICE’S ADVENTURES
IN WONDERLAND - A
COLOURING BOOK
The love of colouring
books still continues and
though I haven’t caught
the bug, I have bought this
because it is very special. It contains the original
illustrations of Sir John
Tenniel and wonderful
retelling of the story
which is a nice touch as
most of the new colouring
books don’t have stories
in them. I think there will
be a fight who gets to
the colouring pencils on
Christmas Day. Try andkeep within the lines!
