An old saying in English shows us the way to FL mastery in superb alliteration along with utter simplicity: «Practice makes perfect.» This spark of genius that was passed on to us by our ancestors in three words only says that language is acquired by self discipline, hard work and repetition. Language is a skill and the learner must develop its muscles. This self-aid book is intended to develop them.
The book consists of eleven chapters, each containing an unseen text, Reading Comprehension and Vocabulary exercises, several Syntax transformation exercises and in the end, a major part of the chapter is dedicated to idioms, collocations, prepositional verbs, proverbs and language functions, since we know that the idiomatic quality of the language makes it authentic and near-native.
The book is being intended for the Arab student, and contains universal topics such as water, friendship, youth, and etc.
The book is also challenging since it does not provide an answer key or glossing. The user is expected to look up words and expressions in dictionaries and to solve the exercises alone. Nevertheless, the students are encouraged to go over the book in groups since learning by social interaction is highly recommended.
