Hello Year 9! We hope that you are safe and well
Please read through this presentation fully before starting today’s tasks
When you have completed these tasks todaytake a clear photo of each of your 3 designs, put
them in a Powerpoint or Word document and email this document to your Art teacher so that we can
give you some feedback – by the end of this week please (15th May)
TASK 1 (5mins) – Look at the research you did into different
ceramic artists the other week and summarise it in terms of:
1. Subject matter 2. Shapes/Forms
3. Colours 4. Textures
EXAMPLE – FOR THIS RESEARCH:1. Subject matter: Floral/beauty
2. Shapes/Forms: Portraits, hands, flowers
3. Colours: White, Pastels, red, blue
4. Textures: Petals, smoothness, details
TASK 2 (30mins)– Now to start SKETCHING out THREE
OF YOUR OWN DESIGNS based on this summary (you may want to get some extra images from online to help
you do this) Each design sketch should be
A5 (half of A4) in size How can you combine some
of the elements of the designs in your research together?
What else could you include from some of your other
coursework? Start sketching and thinking
on paper to come up with your 3 designs
EXAMPLE: See the examples below that are my sketched responses to the previous
research – can you see some of the elements I took from the research?
TASK 3 (30mins)– Now to start ADDING PEN work to your designs to make them look more visually exciting
and also more 3D
Use a black biro for this if possible
Correct any mistakes in your pencil sketching or adjust them as you go
along Add more detail
Add some elements of tone: think about where there would be shadows
underneath these 3D elements
EXAMPLE: See the examples below where I have added my pen work
TASK 4 (20mins) – Now to start ADDING COLOUR AND
SOME NOTES to your designs to make them look more
visually exciting
Consider a ‘colour palette’ for each one
Use whatever you have –colouring pencils or
watercolours if possible Consider which colours
your artists have used Consider areas of lighter
and darker colour You could also add some
light colour into background areas
EXAMPLE: See the examples below where I have added my colour work and some notes around my designs
This flower at the base was inspired by
the work of Owen Charles Mann
The blue flowers on the head were inspired by Lidia
Kostanek
THIS IS MY FAVOURITE DESIGN SO FAR HERE’S A BIT MORE DETAIL ABOUT WHAT I DID WHEN CREATING IT….
I liked the flowy feeling of Juliette Colvis’ work so
tried to create a feeling of movement in the design
The grey/green tones in the face were inspired by
artist Gosia
TASK 6 (10mins) – Take a clear photo of each of your 3 designs, put them in a Powerpoint or Word document and email this document
to your Art teacher so we can give you a bit of feedback – by the end of this week please (15th May)!
