Remembering our soldiers on Memorial Day, Regency opened our Veterans’ Memorial Luncheon with the musical
stylings of the Sunshine Singers. Singing all the songs from each branch of service, the crowd joined in the singing.
As a surprise for Papa Lee Kilbourne, several special guests came to present him three medals from his service in
WWII: Carrie with Senator Shelby’s office, Terri Stover with the Redstone Rocket Newspaper, and Chaplin Nay with
Redstone Arsenal. Papa Lee was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Medal and the Ruptured Duck Pin.
What an amazing ceremony to celebrate our soldiers!

Proudly we celebrated James Thornton’s graduation from New Century Technology High School with Ms. Watters,
his grandmother, who delights in living with Regency, and his mom, Esther Thornton. Pizza! Chips! York Pepper-
mint Patties! Sodas! And the most exclusive banana pudding from Ted’s BBQ! After indulging our taste buds, we
struck a pose and congratulated James on his success! Way to go, James! Your Regency family is so proud and we
wish you great success!

Fathers are for bear hugs and shoulder rides; for competition and comradery; for crazy stories and good times! To
say thank you to all our fathers that live here at Regency, we honored them with a Father’s Day thematic lunch that
featured a shrimp boil. Shrimp. Red potatoes. Corn. Cabbage. All with sides to match. Each one also received a
Father’s Day card and a giant bar of Hershey’s chocolate. Thank you to all the men that live at Regency and for all
the love and kindness they have shown their family and friends through the years. You have helped us be better sons
and daughters!

Is Jeff Clay, COO of Regency Senior Living, 1 out of 10,000 people or more? Of course! With his 3rd degree black
belt in karate, he’s an instructor in the martial art and was happy to provide a one hour demonstration to the seniors
about self defense. Tyrese Similton, a brave new employee with Dietary, stepped forward to volunteer and to partic-
ipate in the action. Back swing kicks! Flip kicks! Hook kicks! Arm lock techniques! Disarming a gun! Dislodging a
knife! We learned it all as Jeff respectfully displayed his talents and discipline. Thank you, Jeff, for taking a moment
to provide helpful karate moves to our seniors!

out amidst conversation and fun.

chocolate, sprinkles, Oreos, strawberries, whipped cream, and a cherry on top... We are sure to rank best in the

Who doesn’t love the taste of the season’s fresh riped tomatoes, sliced to perfection, coupled with mayo and bread?
Yummy! Thats what we heard throughout the activity room as each tomato was sliced. Memories of gardening, and
picking and selling this vegetable delicacy filled our ears as we enjoyed our fresh tomato sandwiches.

• Today, the original copy of the Declaration is housed in the National Archives in Washington, D.C.

From the first note, Buddy Edwards stole the hearts of
the Regency residents in Memory Care. Now, we would
like to introduce him to Independent and Assisted Liv-
ing. Buddy sings gospel and old classics with his guitar
in hand. With a musical voice that is on pitch, Buddy
entices the audience to engage and to join in the concert.
Join us in welcoming Buddy to our community!

summer, when we’ll gather together under the shade
for a new cooking show concept. With a handy dandy,
heavy-duty ice shaver, we sip and slurp on the ice cold
concoctions flavored with fancy syrups. Let’s meet up
and taste this perfect summer recipe that is reminiscent
of Hawaii!

your dish right in the dining room. Watch as he creates
your meal with flair and pomp, as you come to dine and
enjoy the flavors of Italy. Let’s “Vivere Senza Rimpianti”
and “live without regrets!”

anSwer Key:
Welcome to another edition of Therapy Corner. This month, I would like to discuss balance. In an earlier edition, I discussed falls, and of course, a fall is a result of loss of balance. I would like to discuss a few things that affect balance and what can be done to improve balance.
One of the first things I look at when addressing balance is the width apart of the feet when standing. If your feet are close together with a narrow base of support, you are much more unsteady than if you had a wider base. I like to use the example of a pyramid; it is wide at the bottom but narrow at the top. It is very stable. Now, I don’t expect you to go around with your feet far apart, walking like John Wayne. Feet about shoulder width apart is fine.
Another thing I look at is posture. Where your eyes go, your posture will follow. So, don’t look down when walking. If you look down, your shoulders will round and you tend to slouch forward. This throws your center of gravity forward and makes you feel like you are falling forward. Keep your head up and your posture will follow. Try to focus on something in front of you.
Lastly, I look at tight or weakened muscles. The best way to combat this situation is to stay active! Muscles can’t weaken if they are utilized, and they can’t tighten if they are moved.
In closing, keep those feet apart, and keep that head up when walking. Stay active to keep those muscles loose and trained to maintain your balance. Until next time…
