“I’ll be there for you….” Goes, the title track of the famous sitcom F.R.I.E.N.D.S. It describes the role of a friend. Someone who is always around, someone you could count on when all else fails ….

Just knowing that you are never alone only makes it that much easier…But what about those who don’t have the privilege of having someone to fall back on? Someone they could turn to in their hour of need…Especially little children who either run away from home, roam around the streets in need of food and shelter, those who land up working as maids or in brothels, those who are abused…what about those children who end up losing their childhood and their innocence…?? Not knowing whom to turn to?

Children are subject of rights. From the time they are in their mother’s womb, children have rights. Every adult has to accept responsibility to ensure that children have access to rights- survival, development, protection and participation. We asked ourselves: How can every adult participate actively in the movement for ensuring every Child receives all the rights that are due to them?

It is with this question in mind that CHILDLINE 1098 had initiated the CHILDLINE se dosti campaign in the year2010, creating awareness about the plight of children and the need for child rights and protection. Encouraging them to take the CHILDLINE se dosti pledge, a pledge asking them to dial 1098 whenever they see a child in distress or in need… To pledge that they would ensure every child they know is protected…The campaign consisted of a large number of activities in every city where CHILDLINE service is present.

This is the dosti special issue which takes you through the various events and campaigns as part of the CHILDLINE se dosti Campaign conducted across the country.

Do take the dosti pledge be a part of the big CHILDLINE dosti Family… Toh pledge lo Dost Bano…!

What is CHILDLINE?CHILDLINE is a national, 24-hour, free emergency helpline & outreach service for children in need of care and protection. CHILDLINE number 1098 is a toll free number that is common in all the cities of India. Initially started in Mumbai in June 1996, CHILDLINE is currently operational in 190 cities.

CHILDLINE aims to reach out to the most marginalised children and provides interventions of shelter, medical, repatriation, rescue, death related, sponsorships, emotional support and guidance. So if YOU see a child in distress, Call 1098!
