Dear Parents/Carers,

P&C AGM

Next Monday evening our P&C AGM will be held at 7pm in the staffroom. All parents and community members are

welcome. The general meeting will follow the AGM.

NAPLAN Online Practice Tests

Next week our Year 3 and Year 5 students will sit a practice test online to prepare for the NAPLAN Assessment schedule

early next term. This practice test is a way for our students to see what type of questions will be asked and how to go about

answering them online. All students will require their own set of headphones. Please ensure your child has a set of

headphones (not earbuds) that are in a labelled bag. Our students in K-6 all need to have their own set of headphones at

school, for use all year. This practice test for Years 3 & 5 will not produce a score, it is purely to enable our students to

experience the platform in preparation for the assessments in Term 2.

National Young Leaders Day

Last Monday I had the pleasure of accompanying our 4 student leaders to the National Young Leaders Day that was held at

the ICC in Darling Harbour. Jarred, Bianca, Jacob and Angel have written a report that will appear in this newsletter. The

students listened to a number of inspirational speakers and were part of almost 5000 participants from primary schools

across NSW.

Annual School Fees

Thank you to the families who have paid their school fees. The due date for Annual Fees is Friday 29th March 2019. If any

families are experiencing difficulty in meeting this deadline could you please contact the school office to speak with Mrs

Creagh about a payment plan or an extension of time. Please be reminded that some subscriptions, like Reading Eggs and

Mathletics, may be suspended if fees are not paid on time.

School Photos

Our class photos have all been taken for another year. If you forgot to place an order you will need to contact the

photography company directly on 9831 5505. A late fee will apply. Our special groups and sport groups photos will be

taken in Term 3.

Communication

It is extremely important for all parents and carers to read our fortnightly newsletter. We continually try to improve

communication between school and home but find it very frustrating when we hear that misinformation is being passed

around the community, when in fact the correct information is in print form and out there. One recent example is of the

School Photos that were taken this week. Sibling photos were scheduled at 8am in the hall on Monday morning. This was

communicated to parents through the newsletter in both Week 4 and Week 6 editions. The children were also told of it

during assemblies. Please read the newsletter, emails and messages on the School App to ensure you are keeping up to

date. By all means check with friends in the community but please make sure it is reliable information. You can always call

the school office or send an email to ask a question.

Family Photo Fundraiser

There are still a few places available for family portraits on Saturday 23rd March. Please see the flyer in the newsletter and

pay online or in cash at the school office. The framed photo that comes as part of the sitting fee, would make an ideal

Mother’s Day present. Confirmation letters have been sent home this week with the exact time for families who have

already made a booking. If you have not received your confirmation letter please call the school office. Please arrive at the

school library 5 minutes before your allotted time on Saturday.

Election Day BBQ and Cake Stall

Thank you to the many parent volunteers who have signed up for a shift on the BBQ and/or the Cake Stall for this coming

Saturday. As our school will be used as a Polling Place for the Election, our P&C will be providing various items for sale to the

general public. It would be greatly appreciated if families could make a cake, biscuits or slice to donate towards the Cake

Stall. Items can be dropped off at the stall in the morning between 7-8am on Saturday morning. A small supply of cake and

slice boxes are available from the office if you require them.

Colour Run4Fun Explosion

Unfortunately the weather caused us to postpone our fundraising activity on Tuesday. Hopefully next Tuesday (26th March)

we will be able to hold our Fun Run on the oval. This gives everyone an extra week to continue to fundraise. Thank you for

your continued support.

Harmony Day

Next Wednesday 27th March our school will be celebrating Harmony Day. Parents are most welcome to come along and

watch our Parade of Nations which will commence at 9:20am under the 3-6 COLA.

Twilight Markets

This year we will not be holding a Twilight Market at Winston Heights. If you have been holding off to volunteer to help out

with this fundraiser, please consider another P&C fundraising venture on the JOT form. A JOT form is included in this

newsletter.

Kind regards,

Margaret Creagh

Principal

National Young Leaders Day 2019 By: Bianca, Jarred, Angel and Jacob

On Monday the 11th March the four school student leaders were given

the opportunity to attend the Hallogen National Young Leaders Day. Each

guest speaker gave a talk that shared a strong, inspiring and often

emotional message to all participants. Each of the school captains and

vice captains chose a speaker to share with you.

Jarred – I was inspired by Tim Diamond. He is the CEO of the Cotton On

Foundation which helps countries, like Uganda, by providing homes for

families to live in and schools for children to receive an education. They

also provide fresh drinking water for the community by using silos to fil-

ter out all the dirt from rain water catchment areas. Tim inspires me to help those people in need and to not think of only

myself.

Jacob – I found Tamsin Janu’s talk to be inspiring. She is an Australian author of Junior Fiction. She was a creative but shy

child and liked to write plays for her many siblings and cousins to perform in. Her inspiration for her stories comes from her

own life experiences. Tamsin’s first junior novel was called Figgy in the World. It was based on her trip she did in Ghana.

Her latest novel is called Blossom. Tamsin’s talk was encouraging us to step out of our comfort zone and try something

new.

Angel – The speaker I learnt the most from was Cate Campbell. She is an Australian Olympic swimmer. Her inspiration to

start swimming competitively came about through her younger sister, Bronte, who is also an Olympic Swimmer. Cate’s talk

was about working hard for your achievements, don’t lose hope and be careful of lots of distractions. To achieve our goals

in the future we need to work hard and look for opportunities.

Bianca – I especially liked Holly Ferling. She is an Australian Women’s Cricketer. She originally started out by playing touch

football but through an injury changed to playing cricket. Holly’s message was to continue to keep trying and not give up.

There will always be setbacks in life but it is what you make out of them that can improve you as a person. She said to

“embrace the scary and be excited”.
