If you shop at Eastland, take the time to look at our visual arts display on the ground floor near the Dick
Smith store; thank you to Janine Sutton, Sue Fraser and our talented students for providing such a quality
representation of our school.
SCHOOL UNIFORM / UNIFORM SHOP
You will appreciate that there are challenges during a period of change and transition. We are aiming to
have our uniform items available at the Ringwood East store by the end of this term. This will mean that
some uniform items may not be available as we sell off garments at the current uniform shop and stock
becomes readily available at the new outlet.
INSIGHTS to BULLYING I have attached to this newsletter an article by Michael Grose, an acknowledged parent educator, ‘What
bullying isn’t, and what to do when it happens’. I recommend that you take the time to read this as he
spells out the difference between bullying and the normal day to day confrontations that we should let our
children experience and address, so that they are able to cope with an array of social interactions and
build up resilience which will provide them the necessary skills to develop into well-adjusted young
adults.
Kind regards,
Kitty Allard.
Principal.
Hi everyone, We are Heathmont East Primary Schools year six school captains, and house captains. After an excursion
to Bayswater North Primary School, we have set ourselves a task for the term.
We’re building our project at the moment, and have set a timeline so we finish our task on time, ready for
the ‘sustainability day’ on June 11th.
What we would love to achieve is to have the cleanest possible school yard in the area!
We have written a rap to help motivate all year levels in the school to stop littering and help the
environment.
How litter can affect marine animals:
Many marine animals confuse plastic bags, balloons, bait packets, lolly wrappers and rubber with prey
and so they eat these things that aren’t really food! Plastic bags and balloons floating in the water look
like jelly fish. Turtles often eat them and choke or starve to death because they have so much plastic in
their stomachs. Seabirds eat polystyrene balls and plastic buoys after confusing them for fish eggs and
crustaceans. This makes them very sick!
That is only a few of the examples of what rubbish can do to harm our marine animals.
How does rubbish get into the sea?
When you drop your litter on the ground it will eventually reach the seas and maybe an animal’s stomach.
When the litter is lying on the ground, the wind will carry the litter into the drains. The rubbish
mayfollow the drains down to the Ocean and to the marine animals’ environment.
You and I can make a difference to the world. We may not be able to completely stop this problem
worldwide but every piece of rubbish we pick up counts!!
From Amy, Samuel T, Abbey, Chris, Paige, Xavier, Breanna, Liam, Angie and Sam P.

PARENT MUSICIANS WANTED! The Parents’ Association are planning a Bush Dance demonstration at the November
Carnival. If you are interested in joining the HEPS Bush band, led by Jude Harper and
Megan Wall, please see Miss Yeates for more information and further contact details!
Be responsible-Why, when people around us may not be????? In the last few weeks I have had a number of children say to me:
“Some of my friends are being mean all of a sudden!” “I don’t seem to have got on very well with my friend for some time now. What do I do?”
or
“My friend doesn’t want to play with me anymore”.
Here are 5 “more” thoughts, following on from last newsletter........
6. Be willing to say “sorry” if you know you have hurt someone.
7. If the other person does not say sorry too, that is not your problem.
8. Each of us is responsible for our own behaviour ; we are not responsible for the behaviour of
others.
9. You may not end up being as good a friend as you had hoped, but always try to say hello,
smile and where possible have a chat.
10. Remember HEPS Motto, “Aim High”, so treat others as you would like to be treated
yourself!

GAMES CLUBS!
We are planning to start two games clubs this term.
Prep to 2 games club and a Year 3-6 games club.
DONATIONS…
We are wondering if anyone in our school community has games at home
that are no longer in use that could be donated to the games clubs?
Please drop your games into the office and we promise they will be enjoyed by the HEPS children! Thank
you to the Mullenger family for their wonderful donations.
WOULD YOU LIKE TO DONATE YOUR TIME?
The games clubs will run between 1.40-2.30pm, during lunchtime. (Days yet to be decided)
A HEPS staff member will supervise the club, however, it is always great to have friendly, caring adults
to help the children learn new games and get along with each other.
If you are interested in coming along to assist children in games club, please contact me at the office.
Thanks!

We are looking for new members who would like to contribute to the care and
upkeep of our wonderful school, and would like to invite interested parents to
join our friendly and enthusiastic facilities and grounds team.
In the past, some of our achievements include erection of additional play
equipment, improvement of oval and drainage, better emergency vehicle access
to the school, annual maintenance and major works planning, and of course the organisation of working
bees.
Please come on over and see our exciting new facility and meet the team, or give me a call on the number
below if you would like to discuss how you would like to be involved.
Hope to hear from you!
