What is Heat Energy?
Energy is the ability to do work.
Kinetic Energy
Heat Energy
Heat is a form of energy. We use it for warming our homes and cooking our
food.

How Heat Changes Matter?
Phase changes happen when certain points are reached: freezing point,
boiling point and melting point.
Heat Makes a Difference
• Particles in a solid move very little.• Particles in a liquid move and flow.• Particles in a gas move around
quickly.
Measuring and Preserving Heat Energy
We often use the Fahrenheit scale to measure temperature.

What is insulation?
Insulation is a barrier that minimizes the
transfer of heat energy from one material to
another by reducing the conduction, convection
and/or radiation effects.
Greenhouse EffectThe Greenhouse Effect is the rise in
temperature in the Earth’s atmosphere due to the greenhouse gases trapping
energy from the sun.To learn about the Greenhouse Effect explore the EPA
