BELIEVERS HEAR GOD’S VOICE

Jn 10:27 (NLT) -- 27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.

Lk 14:27–35 (NLT) -- 27 And if you do not carry your own cross and follow me, you cannot be my disciple. 28 “But don’t begin until you count the cost. For who would begin construction of a building without first calculating the cost to see if there is enough money to finish it?

LESSONS FROM THE WIDOW

God instructs through the confluence of people, what’s in the heart, circumstances, and outcomes.

God speaks through our heart.

God speaks through people.

God speaks through provision.

1 Ki 17:9–12 (NLT) -- 9 “Go and live in the village of Zarephath, near the city of Sidon. I have instructed a widow there to feed you.” 10 So he went to Zarephath. As he arrived at the gates of the village, he saw a widow gathering sticks, and he asked her, “Would you please bring me a little water in a cup? 11 As she was going to get it, he called to her, “Bring me a bite of bread, too.” 12 But she said, “I swear by the Lord your God that I don’t have a single piece of bread in the house. And I have only a handful of flour left in the jar and a little cooking oil in the bottom of the jug. I was just gathering a few sticks to cook this last meal, and then my son and I will die.”

LESSONS FROM THE WIDOW

God speaks through results.

God speaks to us naturally.

God directs through divine appointments.

Life’s experiences prepare us to move in the right direction.

1 Ki 17:13–16 (NLT) -- 13 But Elijah said to her, “Don’t be afraid! Go ahead and do just what you’ve said, but make a little bread for me first. Then use what’s left to prepare a meal for yourself and your son. 14 For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: There will always be flour and olive oil left in your containers until the time when the Lord sends rain and the crops grow again!” 15 So she did as Elijah said, and she and Elijah and her family continued to eat for many days. 16

There was always enough flour and olive oil left in the containers, just as the Lord had promised through Elijah.

Lessons From A ServantNe 1:1–4 (NASB95) -- 1 The words of Nehemiah the son of Hacaliah. Now it happened in the month Chislev, in the twentieth year, while I was in Susa the capitol, 2

that Hanani, one of my brothers, and some men from Judah came; and I asked them concerning the Jews who had escaped and had survived the captivity, and about Jerusalem. 3 They said to me, “The remnant there in the province who survived the captivity are in great distress and reproach, and the wall of Jerusalem is broken down and its gates are burned with fire.” 4 When I heard these words, I sat down and wept and mourned for days; and I was fasting and praying before the God of heaven.
