Want to Get an “A” on your Next Test, Maybe Take Some Fish Oil First By Dr. Joseph Maroon In a recent study done at the University of Pittsburgh a group of thirteen 18 to 25 year olds were able to significantly improve their working memory after taking omega-3 fish oil daily for six months. Working memory is what we use for that last minute studying before a big test. It is also the type of memory used to remember a phone number that someone just shouted to you across a room. As you can guess it is gener- ally our weakest type of memory but still critical for normal learning, helping us focus on a goal and avoid distractions and even resist impulsive potentially dangerous choices. This study is profound because similar studies with animals and older adults have in the past successfully used fish oil supple- ments to improve various aspects of memory. But to improve memory in a group of young healthy brains has never been shown before. In order to insure that these young people were actually taking fish oil during the study researchers checked blood levels for the molecules EPA and DHA at the beginning and end of the 6 month study. EPA and DHA are the two “active” ingredients found in fish oil. These molecules have important brain function and in fact 30 to 40% of our brain cell’s mem- branes are made from DHA. Fish oil is often called “brain food” because these omega-3 molecules, EPA and DHA, must be consumed in our diet since our body doesn’t naturally produce them. For this reason many people can be deficient in omega-3 depending on what we eat. If you don’t consume enough fish, fish oil supplements, flax seeds certain leafy vegetables or certain types of meats in sufficient amounts you will end up having less DHA for your brain and other organs to use. This is exactly what the Pittsburgh researchers found in the young people they tested. Those with the lowest levels of DHA in the blood prior to taking fish oil were the same group to show the greatest improvements in working memory. As a nation we are deficiency of omega-3 mostly because of the “typical” high saturated fat and high carbohydrate American diet. In fact a study done in 2009 concluded that 96,000 preventable deaths occur each year due to omega-3 deficiencies. This was the 6th greatest cause behind tobacco use, high blood pressure, obesity, physical inactivity and elevated blood sugar levels. cont. from p. 1 Dr Maroon. Whether or not taking additional omega-3 fish oil will boost your brain function as seen in this study is up to you. But this study is just one of hundreds of reports annually showing the benefits of taking omega-3 fish oil. Luxuriate in the Deep, Restorative Sleep Your Body Craves... Pioneer in Geodesic Homes: Pacifi c DomesFounded in 1980, Pacifi c Domes, the original shelter domes manufacturer, has spent the last 30 years perfecting the function and beauty of its geodesic domes. Today Pacifi c Domes manufactures domes for a multiplicity of uses. But why domes? Pacifi c Domes clients answer that question best. Three featured projects demonstrate the breadth and reach of the dome as a healing space, an architecturally advanced shelter, and a creative commons.

The Crib, USALocated at the base of the the S u l p h u r and Topa-topa moun-tains, Ojai, California, nicknamed the “Shan-gri-La” of S o u t h e r n C a l i f o r -nia, boasts a beautiful natural land-scape. In search of the ideal yoga crib, the Ojai Foundation turned to Pa-

cifi c Domes for a structure that complements the beauty and high frequency of its yoga pil-grimage site. The open interior of the geodesic dome allows for freedom of movement, and its circular structure gives teachers the option to set up practice at the center or any point along the perimeter. The yoga dome is personalized to facilitate group yoga classes and meditation. The fundamental geometry of the dome replicates the geometry of our bodies’ molecules, providing the ultimate structure for personal healing and growth.

Weltevreden Domes Retreat, AustraliaThis high-end eco retreat nestled in 90 acres of Australian bush land offers a sanctuary of peace and tranquility. The complete retreat from restaurant to room has been designed using domes both for their natural healing environment and unique structure. The retreat center was created around the domes because they cover more space without internal supports than any other enclosure, and they become proportionally lighter and stronger the larger they are. The dome has no stagnant corners and allows for continuous airfl ow, requiring less energy to maintain temperatures. Weltevreden has used domes to accomplish its dream of creating luxury dome accommodations down under.

Loveland Farms, UKSpearheaded by fashion designer couple Jeff and Karin Griffi n, Loveland Farms, a sustain-able campsite, has become a project that encompasses far more than just camping. The dy-namic team envisioned a space that would foster an environment of relaxation and creativity. The dome became the center for this vision. The open fl oor plan and light fi lled interior has become the camp’s center. Loveland Farm uses its dome to highlight the beauty of the ba-sics, and provides the Griffi ns an architecturally inspiring structure to share with the world. Their dream of creating an oasis away from the busy modern world continues to evolve, but the offering of a creative and sustainable getaway is a constant. (www.pacificdomes.com)

Dr Block cont from pg. in 1-Cruciferous Vegetables: Brocco-li, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, bok choy, mustard greens. They contain sulforaphane and indole-3-carbinol (antioxidants) and helps to covert unhealthy estrogens into healthy ones. No other group of foods has more scientific support for helping to prevent breast cancer. Also helps in the prevention of other cancers as well. Cherries: Contain perillyl alcohol, a powerful inhibi-tor of many kinds of cancer. Cherries are rich in anthocyanins, which are potent natural anti-inflammatories and antioxidants. Tomatoes: Contains lycopene, a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory Garlic: Contains a group of compounds known as organosulfides which have a multitude of physiological effects such as reducing platelet aggregation, reducing blood lipids, killing bacteria and fungus, and stimulating the immune system. Breast cancer cells die when exposed to garlic in test tubes. Or-ganosulfides are most potent when the garlic is first crushed or diced and allowed to sit 10 minutes before using. A recent study found a lower incidence of breast cancer among women who ate garlic a minimum of once a week. Salmon: Contains important and essential omega-3 fatty acids, which reduce inflammation, improve blood flow characteristics, and may improve response to chemotherapy. The science points to those women with increased levels of omega-3s in their tissues lower their chances of breast cancer. A study done at the University of Southern California showed that women who were postmenopausal and ate a small portion of fish daily were-less likely to develop breast cancer than women who averaged less than one ounce a day. Turmeric: Contains curcuminoids and other aromatic oils that exhibit anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer activity; as well as protecting against DNA damaging free radicals.Soy, such as miso, tofu, tempeh: contain what are known as phy-toestrogens, or weak plant-like estrogens. These phytochemicals are known as isoflavones; and eating soy foods, especially start-ing in adolescence, can greatly reduce your risk of developing breast cancer. Green Tea: Contains catechins. A 2001 study demon-strated a big reduction in the spread and size of breasttumors in rats drinking green tea. Flaxseeds: Contain extraordinary amounts of cancer-fighting lignans, that may protect due to their estrogen altering abilities, growth slowing potential, anti-agiogenic properties and the ability to reduce the chances of cancer cells spreading. Berries, such as blueberries, strawberries, and raspber-ries: Strawberries, blackberries, and raspberries contain a com-mon powerful cancer fighter called ellagic acid. Blueberries, raspberries and blackberries contain an abundance of anthocy-anidins, which are antioxidants that can help reduce the risk of a number of cancers. The Raw Trainer-The Top 5 Reasons to Eat Raw My name is Marisa DiCenso-Pelser; I am a Raw Foods Chef, Personal Trainer, and Figure Competitor. Along with my husband Pieter we are spreading the word of raw

food and fitness throughout North-east Ohio and the world. 1-Raw food is more nutritious Cooking food, whether you steam or fry it, removes much of the water from the food. Just look at the difference before and after a pound of spinach is cooked! This water is necesary for both hydration of the body and assimila-tion of many important nutrients by the body. The more nutrients you absorb the more energy you will have

for your daily activities and workouts. Also, the more nutri-ent absorption you have the better your body will recover from daily physical and emotional stress. 2-Raw food is not altered-Cooking food completely changes the chemical makeup of the food. For example, heating proteins fuses the basic amino acid chains together in a processcalled denatur-ing. The human body cannot dissolve these un- natural bonds and so the food becomes useless to the body, not to mention toxic. Also, cooking carbohydrates results in car-melization of the sugars and heated fats quickly become ran-cid. 3-Raw food contains fewer calories per bite-A pound of bananas contains only 400 calories with 3% fat. Compare that to the same amount of broiled steak and you get a whopping 1251 calories, 64% of which is fat! And that’s with the excess fat trimmed off. 4-Raw food is much more satisfying-Because raw foods retain their water and fiber, they are higher in volume. Eating raw is truly as simple as it sounds: the diet consists of eating only uncooked food. Raw and living foods are simply uncooked fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and sprouted grains. There are also some other foods that fall within this category such as seaweeds, raw carob powder, cold pressed olive oil and certain spices and seasonings. By combining the various food groups you can create an endless variety of salads, ap-petizers, entrees and desserts that will satisfy even the biggest critic.

Lower Pain from the Outside InThermoflow products have microscopic ceramic parti-cles woven into the thread of the fabric. This reflects the body’s far infrared ener-gy back into the body to re-duce swelling, increase cir-culation and alleviate pain. Even without pain, pain ex-perts recommend wearing Thermoflow to keep inflam-mation in check, before it can register as pain.

Why Reflexology Can be a Valuable Addition to Your Healing...

Breast Cancer Support?EAST LANSING, Mich. – Researchers at Michigan State University are finding that many women who are receiving chemother-apy while in the late stages of breast cancer are turning to a complementary therapy known as reflexology to help them cope. Women who are receiving chemotherapy for late-stage breast cancer face myriad physical and emotional issues. Reflexol-ogy – which is a specialized foot therapy that applies firm pressure to certain parts of the sole of the foot – helps women adjust better to their treatment. Reflexology is a science which deals with the principle that there are reflex areas in the feet and hands which correspond to all of the glands, organs and parts of the body. Stimulating these re-flexes properly can help many health problems in a natural way, a type of preventative maintenance. Reflexology is a serious advance in the health field and should not be con-fused with massage.

I received reflexology while pregnant and found that was extremely helpful in relieving the back pain associated with

the pregnancy. Also, it re-duced the swelling in my legs and feet. I would recommend reflexology to anyone that is suffering from pain or any

discomfort. -Rachel Snedeker

Mary Landies, certified re-flexologiist, The International Institute of Reflexology certi-fited herbalist, Herbal Healer Academy. “I’ve had the privi-lege of working with friends at their vitamin and herb store opened up a world of safe alter-native modalities. I learned first hand the benefits of both reflex-ology and plant based medicine in coping with the stress of suc-cess and failure, loss and plen-ty.” In 2009 I completed the 200 hour certification for Re-flexology. Natural Health CareWhen a Bum Shoulder Isn’t Just a Bum Shoulder

Trauma Stored in Your Body Can be Freed from Chronic Pain courtesy Sharron Coeurvie, “BSN, APP founder, “Listen...Adult and Pediatric Services” You ache badly and would do anything to be rid of it. Advil, stronger anti-inflammatories from your physician aren’t helping any more. Besides giving your firstborn, now a teenager and worth less than at birth, you’re willing to buy snake oil, have parts cut out, make a pilgrimage to Minnesota, Texas, or even California if it could

just end–- Now! “Oh, no”, you moan to yourself, “ I remind myself of my father.”Patience. (“What do you mean ‘patience’ after so many years of living with it ?!”) Yes, patience. You are a human animal, not human mechanical machine. Bodies do not always follow linear logic in healing. Even physicists know about non-linear dynamics. You are not ‘piece work’ on the assembly line, where a shoulder, a hip, a neck are the piece gone bad–’remove and fix’. The shoulder, the hip, the neck are in a relationship with each other.__________________________________________________________________________ Woven together by fascial planes (Saran Wrap head to toe), neurology, and the metaphors that are unique to your life, this body is more a morphing bag of Jello, (you choose the color) and fluids that are listening to each other and changing each other...just like a mobile tapped lightly moves for hours afterward.__________________________________________________________________________ Ida Rolf, after studying organic chemistry at Columbia University, saw our bodies were capable of much more change than medicine gave them credit for. Taking a leave from her work she explored osteopathy, chiropractic medicine, yoga, homeopathy, eventually developing The Rolf Method of Structural Integration. A bum shoulder, stiff, painful, might be from an ankle injury years before when the muscles shortened around it affecting the lower leg, maybe even lifting one hip higher. After it happened you probably didn’t notice your shoulders had braced. Now, all you know is the shoulder pain that keeps you up at night, driving you nuts, and in the tired morning makes it impossible to lift a milk jug. Muscle layers are tight, stuck to each other, twisted or shortened to try to help reduce the irritation–“Voila!” you have pos-tural distortion. Maybe you have migraines. These can be from a tailbone jammed from that fall on the ice in your tenth winter, an old whiplash, or a hip stiffened after a skiing tumble. With the Rolf Method, layers of muscles are freed from each other, improving range of motion and unnecessary compression or unnatural rotation of joints or bones which, as time goes on, can cause chronic problems and pain. After separating, the layers are realigned with each other and in the gravitational field. As tissue releases, your blood and lymph bathes the area helping it heal, or helping an organ function better.

Exercise and Diet Can Help Control America’s Most Common Form of Liver Disease courtesy Pritikin Longevity Center When liver disease is mentioned, the first thing most people think of is alcoholism. However, the most common form of liver disease in the U.S. is non-alcoholic fatty liver dis-ease (NAFLD). It is characterized by belly fat, insulin resistance, and high levels of liver en-zymes. A wide range of conditions can increase your risk of fatty liver disease, including high cholesterol levels, high triglycerides, gastric bypass surgery, obesity, metabolic syndrome, and Type 2 diabetes. Like liver disease brought on by alcoholism, NAFLD can lead to life-threatening conditions like liver cancer and cirrhosis of the liver. New research showed that people suffering from NAFLD who exercised for at least 150 minutes a week over the course of three months cut their liver enzyme levels, shed some belly fat, improved their LDL cholesterol levels, and were less insulin resistant, even though they had not lost significant amounts of weight overall. Several past studies have also found that you can substantially reduce your risk of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease by: Eating a healthy plant-based diet that is rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, and Maintaining a healthy weight by exercising regularly and cutting down on calorie-dense foods, like fatty and sugar-packed foods People who come to the Pritikin Longevity Center with fatty liver disease often see major improvements, and in just two to three weeks, observes Dr. Jay Kenney, who has been on the faculty at Pritikin for 25 years. www.pritikin.com

The Zamu Gold Story Featuring Singer Olivia Newton-JohnA Journey Into Wellness -(Zamu Gold is a first and only daily defense formula for your health that combines over a dozen powerful Amazon Rainforest botanicals. It’s been called “The Gold Standard,” because it helps improve immune functioning while making you feel your best) Superstar Olivia Newton-John had it all. Movie and television fame — who could forget “Grease,” the most successful movie musical in history? As a 4-time Grammy-winning recording artist she had dozens of Top 10 hits and over 100 million albums sold worldwide. It seemed a charmed life. At least until 1992, when Olivia was told she had breast cancer. It was a pivotal moment and Olivia chose the path to taking responsibility for her own health. John Easterling (Amazon John) had been a treasure hunter in South America for many years trading in gemstones and tribal artifacts. When he suffered a health crisis, the indigenous people shared local plant medicines that took his wellness to a new level. His life path was changed forever. Over the next 20 years, Amazon John devoted his life to study-ing the therapeutic value of Rainforest plants. While on her own healing journey, Olivia crossed paths with Amazon John. He introduced her to the natural plant formulas of the Rainforest. These botanicals ultimately transformed her health, her life and her future. Amazon John and Olivia joined forces with TriVita’s CEO and Founder, Michael R. Ellison. As a result of this newfound partnership, Amazon John teamed up with TriVita’s Chief Science Officer Brazos Minshew to develop “The Gold Standard” daily defense formula for health and wellness - Zamu Gold. This for-mula integrates a long history of Indigenous herbal healing knowledge that has attracted the brightest minds in the scientific community. It’s a formula that re-enforces our vital life force and natural immune intelligence. BY: Stella Nsong, RN, CMC, CDP, LTCP. There is no escaping. We are all approaching the Elder Care Cliff. It is a matter of time……is your family ready? There are approximately 65 million unpaid family caregivers in America. You most likely know one of them, they live in your city, on your street or even next door. They serve with love, courage, never ending patience and perseverance. They have mastered the art of juggling and balancing their multiple roles and responsibilities. Some work 24 hours a day with days blending into weeks, months and even years. Many of them have given up

employment to attend to their loved ones causing their own personal financial cliff. Adding salt to injury, most of the unpaid caregivers also have regular jobs and their taxes go to help fund some of the already limited care services for the aged, blind and disabled. Today, these unpaid caregivers provide over 450 billion dollars worth of care to their elderly parents and loved ones. This enormous sum is the cost of care and services that we working and tax paying people in America would otherwise have to pay if these dedicated, courageous, resilient and ex-tremely stressed out unpaid family members where not available or willing to provide the care. Guess what would have happened to Medicare and Medicaid by now if it where not for these family members whom I am going to call the invisible heros of the US healthcare system. On behalf of all of us who recognize your importance and appreciate your dedication and your sacrifice, I Stella Nsong would like to use the Elder Care Cliff Report (a new, short and to the point news paper) to raise awareness of the fact that without these invisible heros and without a solid plan for the eldercare system, America is facing a Caregiving crisis which I have decided to call the Elder Care Cliff. We are all approaching the cliff, it is just a matter of time. If you are 60 years old today, chances are that you have an aging parent or loved one who is about 85 years or older whom you are caring for so you are much closer to the cliff than a 45 year old whose parents are still in the work force and in good health. On the other hand, if you are a 40 year old woman in the sandwich generation, you are at an angle to the cliff because you might need to quit your job so you can stay at home and care for your kids and your aging parent or aging in-laws. Here is the rub: almost 50 percent of the work force is involved in Caregiving to some degree. When a care giving employee has to quit because it cost more to pay someone to provide child and aging care than she makes per month, her employer’s cost of workforce retention will increase, the government’s revenue will reduce because less people will be working and less gov-ernment funded services will become available. Yes, America is approaching the Elder Care Cliff. Is your family ready? Is your business ready? Is the government ready? This is why and how the Elder Care Cliff report came to existence. I invite you to follow me in these discussions and dia-logue so together we can be ready for the year 2030 and beyond.

THE ELDER CARE CLIFF REPORT OFFERS POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS The eldercare cliff report is an online, print and virtual communication platform bringing real time discussions, cutting edge ideas, solutions, innovation, research and educa-tion about America’s Caregiving crisis. This report will discuss what caregivers, employers and policy makers need to consider, research, explore and collaborate on so we can survive and thrive through the year 2030 and beyond. Look out for the Elder Care Cliff 1.0 soon to be released by Hay House Publishing. It is a concise to the point and action filled self help book so caregivers would not lose their lives to Caregiving. To contribute to the Elder Care Cliff report or to begin a discussion please call 440-358-1718 or follow the report on line via face-book at https://www.facebook.com/StellaNsongOnline or follow on twitter @StellaNsong.

Top 10 signs that America is not ready for the eldercare cliff…..see if you agree! •By the year 2030, the youngest babyboomers will turn 85. •1 of 2 people aged 85 and older will suffer from Alzheimer’s disease. •Alzheimer’s disease is the most expensive disease facing America today. •There will not be enough people to care for the 85-year-old plus —the fastest growing segment of the population. •Today, there are about 5 people to provide care for an older adult but by the 2030, the research is showing that there will be only 3.6 persons and by 2050, there will be only about 2.9 persons available to care for an older adult. •The family caregivers hold the US health care system with the 450 billion dollars of free care that they provide each year. •The family caregiver now dies either before or shortly after the care recipient. •75% of the family members who are employed are clinically depressed and yet un-treated. See the sky rocketing cost of the employer’s health plan. •It cost an employer an average of 2300 per year per employee for loss of productivity associated with Caregiving. •America depends on the taxes of these employed caregivers so it can continue to fund the public and community services which are already limited and will be drastically reduced as the healthcare reform takes effect.

Is The Gastrointestinal System Really The Cause For Most Conditions? Look First At The Kidney

It is commonly believed that the gastrointestinal system is generally the source of many conditions, anything from common cold to cancer. Contrary to popular belief, I believe far more often than not, the true origin may be the kidney. In Anthroposophical medicine, the kidney is the fi rst organ system to develop and mature from preconception to about age two. If there is a trauma of any kind: physical, emotional or energetic at this time

of life, this system then is not able to mature and grow as well as it could and the other systems to follow in growth and maturation namely, the gastrointestinal system at age 4-7, do not mature as well either. Our bodies have an inherent self-healing process in which we can go on for years if not decades before we develop a sign or symptom. When we get a disease or condition, we tend to think more often than not that the problem recently happened. However, taking a look back at how the organ systems developed and under what conditions really tells us the story of what our body is trying to convey through its sign, symptom and condition. Finding the cause(s), which can originate on many levels, is

absolutely important to truly understand and treat the cause(s). Looking at what is going on in the moment and in the past but also looking at how you were brought into the world, mom’s pregnancy, how you grew up, what happened, what didn’t happen, how you responded to stressors, how you manifested situations, etc., is of the utmost importance in fi guring out why you got whatever condition. Understanding organ development and how the growth and maturation of organs have an impact on health and wellness throughout your life is paramount.

GMOs: ANYTHING but Natural! Helene Berk, M.Ed., R.D. is a Registered Dietitian, and Host of “Healthy People

Radio” MONDAY Evenings ~ 6pm EST / 5pm Central / 4pm Mountain / 3pm Pacific Genetically Modified Organisms are lurking in your cui-sine, and if you think you are safe because you buy “natural” products, I am here to burst your bubble. According to The NON GMO Project (http://nongmoproject.org), at least 80% of all processed foods contain genetically modified organisms [GMOs], including natural products claiming to be healthier for you. I’ve attended the Natural Products Expo almost every single year since 1994, and am deeply disturbed at the growing number of manufacturers sneaking these creepy ingredients into natural products and claiming to be superior.

Genetic engineering is a gene splicing technique of biotechnology designed to cre-ate new plants and animals with “unique” qualities. Nevertheless, it is experimental technol-ogy merging DNA from different species, creating unpredictable combinations of genes from plants, animals, bacteria and viruses. These “Franken-Foods” are engineered to withstand herbicides, and even generate insecticide in your own body’s gut, transmuting the DNA in your own intestinal tract! Monsanto is one of the leading corporations to develop this tech-nology, however they falsified scientific studies to pull the wool over American eyes, duping us into believing GMOs are safe, which they are NOT. The biotechnology industry promises increases in yields, improved drought tolerance, and enhanced nutrient densities among crops, which is simply untrue, according to anti-GMO Activist, Jeffrey Smith, who launched The Campaign for Healthier Eating in America. (See http://nongmoshoppingguide.com). I remember working in cardiology at Mount Sinai Hospital when GMOs were introduced over 20 years ago. Back then, children with Type-2 diabetes were non-exis-tent, which is why it was referred to as “Adult-Onset” Diabetes at that time. However, The American Academy of Environmental Medicine [AAEM] has linked GMOs with a va-riety of health problems, impaired insulin function, which explains the epidemic of Type-2 diabetes we see in children and young adults. AAEM also connects GMOs to infertility, tumor growths and accelerated aging, not to mention the collateral damage to our environment. This group of doctors urges all physicians to recommend a NON-GMO diet to every single patient. As a registered dietitian, I take it as my personal responsibility to inform you, which is why I have revised my [FREE] Metabolic Makeover Checklist on http://healthypeople.com, high-lighting “12 HABITS of LEAN, HEALTHY, ENERGETIC PEOPLE”, including, “GMO’s got to go!!!”

Be sure to check the ingredient list, no matter how healthy the product appears to be. If it is notlabeledas“organic”orverifiedasnon-GMO,steerclearof“at-risk”ingredients,including corn, soybean, canola, cottonseed, sugar beets, papaya (from China or Hawaii),

rice and...yes... flax!!! So, for example, when you see “sugar” in the ingredient list of a product made in America or Canada, it will most likely be a combination of sugar cane and

genetically modified sugar beets. Some zucchini and yellow squash are at risk, as well as alfalfa, which is fed to livestock.

Alsocomingdownthepikeisgeneticallymodifiedsalmon.

Why? Because, WE ALLOWED IT TO HAPPEN!!! Dairy products are also at risk. When selecting dairy, seek out labels promising “No rbGH”, “rbST” or artificial hormones,

because cows are often injected with Bovine Growth Hormone. Thankfully, this practice is soon coming to an end to the dairy industry in America ...that is, for human consumption.

It will continue to be utilized by the pharmaceutical industry.Ingredients derived from at-risk crops include “natural flavors”, erythritol, molasses, sucrose, fructose, high-fructose corn syrup, Aspartame (a.k.a, AminoSweet, Nutrasweet,

Equal, Equal Spoonful, Canderel, BeneVia), glucose, corn flour, corn meal, cornstarch, soy flour, soy lecithin, soy milk, tofu, tempeh, canola oil, vegetable oil, whey... and the list goes

Diabetes Is Reversible by Dr. Keith Ungar The common thread I find with most diabetics is that they are frus-trated. Why is that? They are given a diagnosis, put on medications, told to lose weight, exercise, and eat better. They are never told how to do these things by their doctor and it is very frustrating. Now occasionally they will be sent to a dietician who tells them to count their calories and switch from white bread to wheat bread, but this a “one size fits all” approach can actually cause diabetics to get worse. The complications that diabetics fear the most tend to be heart dis-ease, kidney failure, blindness, and even amputations. So why does diabetes tend to get worse over time and not better? The problem is that diabetes is usually managed at a symptom level. Typically the medications are the same for most people and those treatments are

aimed at lowering the blood sugar. Traditional medical treatments do not try to determine theunderlyingcause(s)thataredrivingthebloodsugarsupinthefirstplace.Iffact, some diabetic medications cause weight gain. Your doctor is telling you to lose weight but the medication is causing you to gain weight! Every time your doctor runs a blood test and your Hb A1c increases, what do they do? They increase your medication dosages until you are maxed out on the oral diabetics medications. The next step is insulin. How long do you have to be on that? For the rest of your life so they say. I am here to tell you that DOES not need to happen.

Diabetic treatments are Insanity? If you look at all the research on diabetes it shows the majority of diabetics get worse over time not better. The conventional medicine approach for diabetics has not changed much over the years and they keep doing the same approach even though diabetics are still getting worse over time not better. The definition of insanity is doing something over and over again and expecting a different result. So if you want to have a different outcome then you must first start with a different approach. The functional medicine approach does just that. We do specialized extensive test-ing aimed at identifying unique imbalances in the body that explains why an individual has difficulty controlling their blood sugar. We are able to specifically determine each patient’s individual triggers or causes of why they have diabetes. From there, we formulate a custom-ized treatment plan to eradicate or address those imbalances. Patients in our office are able to reverse their disease process meaning they lose weight without exercise, their energy skyrockets, they sleep better at night and they are able to reduce and eliminate their needs for medications across the board even if they are on insulin and regardless of the length of time that they have had the disease. If you would like more information please go to our website www.balancingyourchemistry.com or if you would like an appointment with D. Ungar call his office at 216-236-0060 for his Independence office or 330- 644-7246 for the Akron Office. You need to decide whether to continue down the road to Diabetesville or go a different direction – towards long-term health. Dr. Ungar conducts workshops and lectures weekly to the general public and to other health care practitioners. Dr. Ungar’s passion for functional medicine stems from his own health condition. Dr. Ungar was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. He tried the con-ventional medicine approach and his condition was only getting worse. Eventually, his doctor told him that he wanted to put him on a drug to suppress his immune system and was told, that, “the drug will suppress your immune system so much that if you get a common cold, it could KILL you.” Dr. Ungar started researching for a safe and natural solution. Many years of research, education and certifications later, Dr. Ungar cured himself and learned how to treat many other conditions naturally. The medical thrust behind improving old dietary habits is to decrease inflammation in our bodiesby Martha Hackett, M.D. Cucumbers and

c e l e r y , kale or collards, parsley or ci lantro, beet or a p p l e …W a i t -juiced or blended,

raw or steamed…all good. All important. Our nutrition may never achieve a sus-tained level of perfection, but we can certainly head in a healthy direction. Eat-ing less processed, no GMO, organic whenever possible-whole, local, organic is the top. The medical thrust be-hind improving old dietary habits is to decrease inflam-mation in our bodies. We are indeed time-transcendent be-ings having a human experi-ence-but we are having this experience with the use of a physical body-and the fuel we put in, determines how our machine works. Foods we eat, thoughts we think-all determine our biology. Eat-ing foods high in omega 6s (e.g., animal products) set off pro-inflammatory cascades. Rapidly dividing cancer cells need quick energy and are fed by sugary foods or foods with a high glycemic index. Soda pop, fruit juice, more than three cups of coffee dai-ly make our bodies acidic. We may have ge-netic potential toward certain diseases, but if we mindfully conduct our lives so as to cre-ate an internal environment supporting repair rather than promoting damage-those genes may never express themselves. Western medi-cine now recognizes that in-flammation in our bodies is the basis for chronic diseases like diabetes, osteoarthritis, coronary artery disease, and cancer; and now, most re-cently, dementia. We can individu-ally accept responsibility to pursue an anti-inflammatory diet-and protect ourselves in many ways. We can self-nav-igate around the convenient, processed, fat-laden, sug-ary offerings and champion our future. Eating mindfully and with gratitude further sets the fuel on its healing way. Go with lots of green vegetables, especially the big leafy ones (think kale). Stay with plant-rich nutrition (celebrate quinoa). Choose fruits high in anti-oxidants and phytonutrients (visual-ize luscious berries). Radiant health is a beautiful thing. Contaminated Polio Vaccine Responsible for Human Cancer Cases from the www.thenhf.com National Health Federation By Liberty Beacon

March 05, 2013 excerpt In 2002, the journal Lancet published compelling evi-dence that contaminated polio vaccine was responsible for up to half of the 55,000 non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma cases that were occurring each year. What was it contaminated with? SV40, a cancer-causing monkey virus. The puzzle began in 1994, when Dr. Michele Carbone, a Loyola University re-searcher, found the virus SV40, which had never before been detected in humans, in half of the human lung tumors he was studying. Since then, 60 different lab studies have confirmed the results, and SV40 has been found in a variety of human cancers, including lung-, brain-, bone-, and lymphatic cancer. At first no one could fathom how the virus had been trans-mitted into the human population. But in the censored in-terview with Dr. Maurice Hilleman above, Hilleman admits Merck’s responsibility in unleashing this virus via their polio vaccine, as well as the likelihood that there was an importing and spreading the AIDS virus in the same manner. I urge you to consider the risks already revealed in the four short years since Gardasil came on the market. Al-ready, there are close to 21,000 reported incidents of adverse effects and death, despite the fact that only two out of every 10 women in the approved age group have gotten the vaccine so far. Add to this the fact that an estimated 90 to 99 percent of all adverse effects are never reported, and the abnormally large risks of the HPV vaccine compared to other vaccines should give most people reason to pause. Although the FDA ultimately dismisses all side ef-fects, including deaths, as being within the norm, even they have stated that: “In VAERS, a higher proportion of Gardasil reports were of syncope [fainting] and VTEs [venous throm-boembolic events] compared with other vaccines.“ And ac-cording to the National Vaccine Information Center, the in-cidents of miscarriage and still birth events from Gardasil supersede the same event from all other vaccinations. According to a recent Sane Vax press release on PR Log:“There is no doubt the vaccine’s safety and efficacy has not been thoroughly investigated. And independent investigation on the safety and efficacy of the HPV vaccines, Gardasil and Cervarix must be conducted before there are more injuries and deaths.”

Syndrome X: The Future of Independent Dietary Supplement RetailersStephen Holt, MD, LLD(Hon.) ChB., PhD, ND, FRCP (C) MRCP (UK), FACP, FACG, FACN, FA-CAM, OSJ, Distinguished Profes-sor of Medicine, Chairman, New York Department of Integrative Medicine at NYCPM, President,

World Organization of Natural Medical PractitionersDefiningtheMetabolicSyndromeXThe Metabolic Syndrome X is characterized by the variable combination of obesity, hypertension and high blood choles-terol, linked by an underlying resistance to the actions of in-sulin.1-3 This constellation of health problems affects up to 70 million Americans and it is associated with many other diseases.2 These diseases aggregate to form the commonest cause of premature death and disability in industrialized na-tions.2 Syndrome X must now be characterized as the most important health initiative in Western society and interven-tion for this complex grouping of health challenges rests pri-marily in recommendations for positive lifestyle change and optimum nutrition. While the treatment of Syndrome X is the “apple of the eyes” of the pharmaceutical industry, this complex disorder and its associated disease diatheses are best managed by holistic, “natural” interventions. The Natural Foods Industry Must Take Owner-ship of SyndromeX-No drug or stand-alone conventional medical intervention can combat Syndrome X. There are many nutritional factors that can be used in dietary supple-ment formulations to impact the different metabolic compo-nents and associations of Syndrome X.2, 3 This means that health food retailers are positioned ideally to make an impor-tant contribution to the health of the nation by counseling and applying evidence-based nutritional recommendations and nutraceuticals to assist in the overall management of Syn-drome X. In other words, the natural foods industry can play the pivotal role in helping to reverse the most important threat to public health, especially in the U.S. Dietary Supplements for Syndrome X MayChange the Health of a Nation-Impacting Syndrome X with natural interventions can change the health of the nation in a manner that may far surpass any allopathic (conventional) medical options. 2, 3 Syndrome X remains underestimated, misunderstood and frequently mismanaged in all branches of medicine and its health challenging components may account for up to 80% of all supplement purchases made by mature adults. However, such supplement purchases may on occa-sion be inadequate in their range of action or somewhat misdirected. The dietary supplement industry must be pro-activeinitsattemptstocombatSyndromeXandsuchattempts are unquestionably a mainstay of the future for dietary supplement interventions in modern society. MY BASIC APPROACH TO ADD AND ADHD419-358-4627 www.healthcelebration.com Terry Chappell, MD Celebration of Health AssociationBluffton, Ohio, 419-358-4627

I don’t do a lot of testing, but rather try to designate resources for Treatment as much as possible. To test for yeast imbalance, I usually do a Stool culture. Some refer to do Or-

ganic acid testing of the urine, which I do occasionally. The advantage is that in addition to yeast it tests for other imbalanc-es, such as oxalic acid (this was the cause of my kidney stones). It is a urine test, pretty expensive and sometimes hard to interpret. Yeast is most commonly present if a child has had a lot of antibi-otics, has abdominal complaints, or craves sugar. I usually do an Elisa food

allergy test for 99 foods (from the blood). Food allergies are usually a significant factor in treatment. We treat either with an elimination diet, injections, or by tapping on acupuncture points, called SRT, which is quite effective. A hair analysis for toxic metals is pretty much outdated because it has been shown that a problem with some kids is that they accumulate lead, mercury, aluminum and other metals by not excreting them, so they do not show up in the hair. I do some kind of challenge test. With kids, it is often a collection of stool after taking an oral spray called metal free for a few days. Metals can play a big role for ADHD if present. Rather than test for vitamins and minerals, which is not very accurate, I just treat with a multivitamin. I also use fish oil or other essential fatty acid and a homeopathic called mental clarity routinely. Amino acids can be important. Testing can be helpful to identify specific imbalances, but the treatment is difficult, sometimes requiring supplements sev-eral times a day. This applies to testing for neurotransmitters, like do-pamine, seratonin, and adrenalin. Another avenue is to do a simple spot urine for all amino acids. A compounding phar-macy can then mix up replacement powder tailored for that specific child. The aa testing is not expensive, the treatment is fairly pricey, but easy to take. We have just ordered a new supplement called Em-power plus, a powder that covers the basic vitamins, miner-als, and amino acids without testing. The reported results are good, and many patients have been able to reduce or stop psychotropic meds by taking Empower plus. We sometimes do an adrenal stress index to look for abnormal cortisol lev-els. Cortisol helps you deal with stress, and abnormalities are easily treated with natural supplements. Some other treatments that we do without testing are peptide shots from Europe. This requires a series of about a dozen shots at 3-week intervals, and only a few docs have them available (probably not practical for you at this point). Home use of vitamin B12 shots (methylhydroxycobalamine) are usually very helpful but have to be continued. These are cheap and easy. Finally and primarily, I would teach Andy the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), which he can do himself to quiet down and focus. I can show you how to do this with a paper handout and a phone call.

BrainAvatar™ is based on the concept that the foundation of brainwave training is in recognizing the plasticity of the brain and its neuronal resources to implement change in the con-text of homeostasis. You can now see brain physiology and change in real time (courtesy BrainMaster) An unprecedented demonstration of pain control using the power of the brain and mind was conducted this March at the Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback (AAPB) annual meeting in Portland, Or-egon. Under the supervision of a team of Sufi practitioners as well as health-care professionals, Mr. Safa Saleh pierced him-self with large, unsterilized skewers in front of an audience of astonished onlookers, while he was monitored for brain and body physiological signals. Most notable was the brainwave monitoring conducted by Dr. Thomas Collura of BrainMaster Technologies Inc. and the Brain Enrichment Center, Bedford, Ohio. According to Dr. Collura, Mr. Saleh produced the most “remarkably unremarkable” brainwaves that could be imagined under the circumstances. Despite this drastic and normally painful procedure, Mr. Saleh produced copious amounts of “alpha” brainwaves, which normally indicate re-laxation and a peaceful state of mind. Even during the pierc-ing itself, his brain was in a profoundly relaxed and quiet state. The most notable alpha waves were seen in the frontal lobes, suggesting that Mr. Saleh successfully quieted his fear response, and was completely calm during the procedure. My name is Diane Helmold. I live in Chicago. My background is in Education, but thanks to this gold-en opportunity I am now a full time Reliv distributor!

Nineteen years ago, before Reliv, I was home with three chil-dren. My husband Kevin, a Chicago fireman, was putting in around 80 hours a week between working at the firehouse and his side jobs. We had extra money but we didn’t have a life. We were missing time as a family. I knew there had to be a better way. That is when a friend from church introduced me to Reliv. When my friend introduced Reliv to me I was tired, depressed, had numerous female issues and was never happy with my weight. My husband had daily stress headaches and seasonal allergies. Our son was dealing with eczema and we were looking into cortisone shots. Our daughter had chronic ear infections and we were considering putting tubes in her ears. Our 3 month old had been crying since birth. My life was crazy between doctor visits and hospital stays. Within six months of using the Reliv products, we saw an amazing improvement in our overall health and well-being. The only thing we did differently was take our Reliv every day! Fast forward 19 years and our life is so different. We went on to have our fourth child. She is our Reliv baby and never had any health concerns. Our family has never been healthier or happier. We only see doctors for wellness check-ups. I am proud to represent this company. Not only have the products changed our lives but the business has impacted us in a great way financially. My first month at the highest profit margin (40%) I earned $1200. Two

years after our fourth baby was born, Kevin left his side jobs to come home and be a Dad. My dream came true. It has now been 17 years since we’ve been raising our family as a team. I have been able to leave teach-ing and discover that I LOVE

being a mom and I LOVE making a difference in other peo-ple’s lives. I have tripled what I earned as a teacher while working only half the hours. Reliv has helped us pay off our home and become debt -free. We have been able to provide our children with the best private education and most impor-tantly we have been able to put our faith and family first while still having time for a business. Paradise Farms, Homestead, FL In 1999 Gabriele Marewski purchased an abandoned five-acre avocado grove next door to her home, filled with a dream and the drive, founded Paradise Farms. Respecting the principles of sacred geometry and the ancient art of feng sui, the layout of the farm is centered on a circle of beds and a gazebo that was designed in col-

laboration with Robert Barnes, a local architect and Richard Medlock, a local artist. The farm started with lettuce in the circle beds and each season the planting expanded to a greater variety of products. The product line now includes micro greens, herbs, many edible flowers, a popular baby greens mix, heirloom tomatoes, assorted basil tops and mint tops, baby root vegetables, honey and a variety of tropical fruits including carambola, jackfruit, monstera, mango, avocado, cotton candy fruit and bananas. Paradise Farms sells exclusively to the best chefs at high-end restaurants in the Miami area.

Paradise Farms Organic incorporates Biodynamic

principles, which, among other things, encourages an intimate relationship with the land based on the energies of the earth, sun, moon and cosmos. The farm recognizes and

values the vibration in everything from the atom, to the plants, insects, animals, and people. The farm design supports it’s intention to work with nature’s energy. This idea produces a higher vibrating food enriching it’s flavor. Paradise Farms is certified organic by Quality

enough exercise and maintaining a healthy weight; nutritional factors play a large role in developing and protecting our joints against pain and inflammation. Dietary minerals are the building blocks of human tis-sue, and without sufficient levels in our diets, healthy tissue production becomes interrupted. Studies show that deficiencies in minerals such as manganese, copper, selenium and boron, lead to joint inflammation and cartilage degradation which can significantly hamper athletic performance and post exercise recovery. Nutritional supplementation with these minerals is an excellent way to fuel your joints and ensure your athletic performance is at the top of its game. The scientific rationale for using specific minerals to prevent or reverse tissue damage lies within each mineral’s function within a specific tissue. For example, copper is required to activate the enzyme pathway that synthesizes connective tissue such as cartilage and elastin in the joints. This process occurs via cross-linking of collagen and elastin and is important in maintaining the strength and durability of cartilage. Manganese is also essential for the formation of connective tissues such as cartilage and bone. Strong cartilage tissue is extremely important for performance athletes as it decreases the chance of cartilage degradation due to over-exertion and protects against joint conditions such as arthri-tis. Minerals such as copper, manganese and selenium also act as antioxidants and play an important role in several antioxidant systems in the body, including antioxidant enzyme Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) and Glutathione Peroxidase (GPX), which bind and neutralize free radicals that cause inflammation. Free radicals are produced at high levels during intense exercise, and without proper intake of dietary antioxidants such as minerals, free radical production can exceed the body’s ability to produce antioxidants and lead to tissue damage due to oxidative stress. Maintaining optimal levels of cellular antioxidants such as SOD and GPX are crucial to neutralize free radicals produced during intense exer-cise, protect against pain and inflammation and speed post exercise recovery. It is important to note that although minerals have individual functions and contribute to joint health via various mechanisms; in reality these minerals work in concert to promote optimal health. For example, antioxidant enzymes such as SOD are comprised of multiple mineral components thus it is imperative that sufficient levels of each of these mineral is obtained from the diet to ensure optimal SOD function. SierraSil® is mineral supplement containing over 60 minerals present in a rich clay structure. The minerals are rapidly absorbed by the body and act synergistically to reduce inflammation and protect against cartilage degradation in the joints. The clay structure of SierraSil® draws out toxins produced during intense exercise, creating a further anti-inflammatory effect. Many professional ath-letes have reported increased performance and decreased recovery times with SierraSil®.Minerals have dramatic effects on maintaining optimal joint health via numerous physiological mecha-nisms. By providing the body with a wide spectrum of anti-inflammatory and joint-protecting minerals, SierraSil® is a great addition to any exercise regime. Sarah Holvik, B.Sc. Taking the Bite out of your Head, Neck, and Jaw Joint Pains by Scott L. Rose, D.D.S Many people suffer from a variety of head, neck and shoulder pains, and head-aches. A lot of people accept this as a normal sign of aging. An equal number of people have tried many types of treatments and medications only to be disap-pointed time and time again by poor outcomes. But did you know that some of these aches and pains may be caused by an incorrect biting position. That’s right!

If your bite is off, the muscles of your face may go into chronic spasms, or not be working at their ideal length. These muscles may be overworking in order to maintain your present bite position. Different muscles work together to open and close your jaw. They are also used for chewing, and swallowing. These muscles are not only in the area of your jaw joint. The jaw positioning muscles run up and down the neck, through the cheeks, into the forehead, and around the ears. Some even wrap around the skull. Every time you chew and swallow, the teeth must either come together or come very close to each other. Therefore, where the teeth want the muscles to be and where the muscles want to be may be totally different. Our bodies can accommodate only so much. When the muscles can no longer accommodate – this translates into aches, pains, and headaches. When muscles do not get a chance to rest, they soon suffer from poor circulation. This leads to a lack of needed oxygen and the accumulation of waste products of metabolism. This fuels the cycle of pain. Your habitual bite may be not be what is best for you. Even if you have great teeth, your bite may be off. So even if you do not have “common” dental problems, this does not mean that your bite is not affecting your overall health. Occlusal disease can create just as many problems if not more than dental decay. A bad tooth effects the one tooth. A bad bite can effect the entire mouth, muscles, joints, and posture. Neuromuscular Dentistry is the art and science of using the relaxed position of the mus-cles of the head and neck to properly place the jaw in its optimal position. Years of clinical experi-ence and research has shown this technique to be effective in treating patients with a variety of head and neck pain, including TMJ. Neuromuscular Dental Therapy is also used for Cosmetic procedures. When you restore patients to their new relaxed position, this also restores facial balance and harmony. Not only will you feel great, you will look great too! Those patients that are seeking state of the art care and treatment, or those patients that are tired of educated guesses, trial and error treatment protocols, should re-evaluate by what philosophy they would like their care and treatment to be guided by. Dr. Rose says, “Our success is in the philosophy of taking a neuromuscular approach in all facets of our dentistry!” A graduate of Case Western Reserve University School of Den-tistry, Dr. Rose has been the recipient of numerous awards and fellowships, with his research published in many professional dental journals. In addition to private practice, Dr. Rose has been the Dental Director for Brentwood Health Care Skilled Nursing Facility and was on thestaff of University Hospital Bedford Medical Center. He has acted as a consultant to a major dental manufacturing company and was the offi cial dentist for the Bedford Police Depart-ment. He is listed in the National Registry of Whoʼs Who in 2000. Dr. Roseʼs commitment to education and passion for his profession are evident in the extensive post-graduate studies he has pursued. He has completed the Master Aesthetic Dental Program at the prestigious Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies (LVI), the worldʼs premier center for the study of aesthetic and neuromuscular dentistry. Dr. Rose has received extensive post-doc-toral training in Neuromuscular Dentistry at the world renowned Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies. On fire or flamed out? When peak performance pushes you over the edge by Maddy Outman is professional track & field athlete and

assistant coach at Ursuline College in Pepper Pike, Ohio, who is training to make the US Olympic Team 2016, in the heptathlon Training for the Olym-pic trials in the heptathlon last spring, everything looked per-fect on paper. My workout piec-es were all in place and I was even doing extra workouts, so surely the Olympic trials quali-fying standard would be a lock. Except. At race time, I

was sluggish and irritable. I couldn’t concentrate in the start-ing blocks, my reaction times were snail-like, and above all my motivation waned. Lo and behold, the fire that drives me to train night and day had burned me out: I was overtrained. These days we are pushed to take on excessive demands without revealing our limits. This is true not only for elite athletes, but for anyone who is physically active, holds a high stress job, or is raising a family. You may feel that if you “only” run 10 miles a week, or work part-time, or stay at home with children you have no cause to feel overburdened, right? Wrong! The driving force behind overtraining syndrome is not the amount of work you do, but failing to take appropriate rest. Whether you are running 10 miles a week or 100; working 3 hours a day or 13, periods of rest must be scheduled to allow for recovery. So how do you know if you’re burned out or just need a good night’s sleep?• Changes in demeanor. Becoming crabby, lacking motivation, and decreased enjoyment in recreation activities are three common signs that the body is exhausted. • Sleep disturbances. Contrary to expectation, over-training often leads to an inability to sleep. The body’s over-whelmed nervous system remains elevated overnight, making sleep difficult. When overtraining, I started waking up every hour and also experienced nightmares. • Elevated heart rate. Establish a baseline heart rate by taking your pulse for 60 seconds in the morning before getting up, and identify your average. If your heart rate jumps by five or more beats per minute, then you haven’t recovered from the previous day. • Immune system deficiencies or injury. Always catching a cold or susceptible to the stomach bug that’s going around? Given enough rest, the body’s immune system will per-form admirably. Getting sick should not be a regular occurrence. In sports, stress fractures and other injuries are the pinnacle of overtraining. Recovering from overtraining does not mean you must give up the activities you love or take an unplanned vaca-tion. Scaling back enough to recover may require less adjust-ment than you think. My coach and I took a multi-step approach: 1. Plan your rest periods. Rest and relaxation are MUST DO items on your list, not luxuries you’d like to enjoy if there’s time. As an athlete, my 30-minute afternoon nap is a non-negotiable appointment. 2. Shake up your daily nutrition. For elite athletes, most aspects of training are subject to rigid routine, including nutrition. Leading up to the biggest races of the year, my diet is minutely planned down to single calorie. While this can greatly enhance performance in the short-term, long-term consumption of the same foods can lead to chronic nutrient deficiencies.Changing your routinewill alleviate boredomand may help jump-start your body’s natural recovery pro-cesses. 3. Refresh your goals. Tunnel vision focus on one goal can become a prison. I had been focused for so long on qualifying for the Olympic trials that the goal had become a pressure-laden task and I dreaded failing. To yield results, a goal should focus on attaining a positive outcome and not on avoid-ing a failure. When my goals changed to focus on enjoyment of competing instead of just the numbers, the resulting mental relief released copious emotional energy to be used elsewhere. 4. Check in with yourself. Every month my coach and I check in on my athletic priorities and how they are fitting into the rest of my life. We ask: Am I still having fun? Do I love what I’m doing? When I wake up in the morning, am I excited for the day and looking forward to training? You should be able to say yes to these questions about whatever you are doing with your days. Maddy Outman is professional track & field athlete and assistant coach at Ursuline College in Pepper Pike, Ohio. THE pH MIRACLE FOR HEALTHY WEIGHT LOSS byRobert O. Young, MS, D.Sc., Ph.D. (courtesy of Ph. 423-715-0742 or 419-685-4269/ or visit us www.bestwaterbetterlife.com /Ashland, Ohio) <see ad p 8 and discover why the water you drink may be the missing ingredient> First, you need un-derstand what makes us fat before you can comprehend the cure, because any sys-tem that only addresses the obvious symptom—excess pounds—will never truly solve the problem. The issue is acid, or the over-acidity of your blood and tissues. You may be surprised to know that the fat we so detest is in fact sav-ing our lives. Our body uses fat to encapsulate—imprison if you will—excess acids that enter the body. The body can cope with metabolic acids in small amounts, but when we intake too much acid the body can’t deal with it all and goes into preservation mode. To keep these acids from poisoning and killing us, our bodies bind them up with a fat buf-fer for protection. The good news is that in the short term your body protects itself from im-mediate damage. The bad news is that in the long term, those fat/acid deposits cre-ate a whole bunch of health problems. That’s what we re-ally want to avoid. So how do we break up these acid/fat deposits in a healthful way? These toxin-acids may come from various sources but the main source of acid intake comes from the food we ingest. So when we learn what acid food and drink to avoid and what al-kaline foods and drinks we ought to consume, our body will consequently have less need to buffer acid and will happily shed those now un-necessary pounds.

The New Biology® Dr. Robert O. Young’s New Biology®, most simply stated, is that the over-acidification of the body is the single underlying cause of all disease. A diet high in acid foods such as meat, dairy, grains, high sugar fruits, and bread causes acid wastes to build up in the body. When acid wastes enter our blood stream, the blood system will attempt to dispose of these wastes in liquid form through the lungs or the kidneys. If there are too many wastes to handle, they are deposited in various organ systems like the heart, pancreas, liver, co-lon, and other locations. Dr. Young’s research has been published in several noted journals, including The Journal of Alternative and Com-plementary Medicine. (Sympa-thetic Resonance Technology, Scientific Foundations and Sum-mary of Biologic and Clinical Studies, Dec. 2002, Vol. 8, No. 6: 835-842.) . Overlooked ElectromagnicToxins Sparks Dr. Rhoda ZioneAlale, RN, PhD, DHP to Invent an Amazing Award Winning DiscoveryDr. Rhoda Zione Alale is a Distinguished Fellow in resident at The Center for Equity in Health at Teachers College, Colum-bia University in New York City. The Genesis of her mis-sion stems from a “sick home.” She moved her family from Washington, DC to Ohio, after her husband died, and unknow-ingly brought a home that was built on nuclear waste and full of chemical and radiation toxins. It made her whole family sick. Her son, Prince Kahlif, lost over 60% of his brain theta wave and altered his behavior so that he became as a 7 yo child who was stuck in manic aggres-sion and rage. He had to be hospitalized for almost a year. She too suffered from chest pain, rapid heart rate, breast cancer, sleep

apnea, insomnia, gastric reflux, lymph edema, and alterations of the alpha brain wave which led to memory loss. It was the com-passion of a Russian Doctor that she met at a medical conference in Canada who was merciful to speak to her about being toxic with electromagnetic radiation. She noted that Dr. Alale’s hands, feet, face and legs were swollen. She ask her …if she had ants… in her home? Dr. Alale replied,

“Yes, a huge ant infestation in fact!” The doctor then explained that ants only infest homes with high levels of static electromag-netic radiation that can be highly assaultive and cause cancer in humans and animals. The Doctor offered to give Dr. Alale an evaluation for EMF (electromagnetic frequency) radiation poi-soning. She accepted it. The findings confirmed her observations of Dr. Rhoda Zione Alale was indeed sick with EMF radiation poisoning. The doctor then advised her to get an engineer to evaluate her home. Those findings revealed that the home was full of converging toxins with both chemical and letal levels of environmental ra-diation. In 2007, she gave that home to The MiChi Health EpiCenter, an environment research organization. She invited engineers to study that home from around the world. She also and began to develop and investigate the interfacing of nano technologies that would lower radiation and chemical assault in indoor environments. Dr. Rhoda Zione Alale, now a Diplomate of Health Physics, measures and analysis, ionizing and non-ion-izing radiation, greenhouse gas, particular matter, and industrial chemicals and their impact on cell function and health. As a Fellow at The Center for Equity in Health, she directs The ECO 180 Healthy SMART Homes National Cam-paign to education consumers on the dangers of indoor toxins and directs Construction Firms, globally and Engineers on HOW to use her revolutionary Award Winning technologies: NanoBioGenic ( The Flat Batteries) and NanoBioPlex ( Nano Insulators and Water Energetic Systems) to reduce the assault of chemicals and environmental radiation and to convert “old” homes to energy efficient, toxin free or reduced, SMART Homes for about $1per sq ft and up. Additionally, she teaches consum-ers HOW to retrofit cell phones and other electronic devices with her amazing Flat Battery nano technologies to lower the assault. These technologies are so diversed in use. A mother in Cincin-nati discovered that they stop her 8 yo daughter’s seizures on contact. She is now supporting her daughter’s doctors at The Cleveland Clinic in a quest to fund clincial trials and commer-cialization of the Flat Batteries, globally. Dr Alale is the first Registered Nurse to win an INPEX Gold Medal for the United States in Environmental Innovations. Has Celeb Chefs in Awe-Celebrity Chefs inspire new LEMON FLAT BATTERY! Yes. . . If you are dining in Cleve-land, OH, Chicago, Washington, DC, Los Angeles, or St. Louis you just might see people using a Lemon Flat Battery affixed to their cell phone to energize their water, salad or entree. Autobiography of a Yogi is one of the world’s most acclaimed spiritual classics.

As the life story of Paramah-ansa Yogananda — who is of-ten referred to as the Father of Yoga in the West — the book has touched the hearts and minds of millions around the globe. Translated into many languages, it has served as an ambassador for India’s ancient science of Yoga, introducing countless readers to the meth-

ods for attaining God-realization that are India’s unique and lasting contribution to world civilization. In 1999, a Harper Collins panel of distinguished authors and scholars selected Autobiography of a Yogi as one of the “100 Best Spiritual Books of the Century.” Alive with all the love, warmth, joy, and wisdom that characterize Paramahansa Yogananda, this masterwork of religious literature includes chapters about: the science of Kriya Yoga meditation; the law of miracles; the lives and missions of Mahavatar Babaji, Lahiri Maha-saya, and Swami Sri Yukteswar; Yogananda’s meetings with Mahatma Gandhi, Rabindra-nath Tagore, Ramana Maharshi, Luther Burbank, Therese Neumann, and other spiritual luminaries of East and West. http://www.yogananda-srf.org

Stoff, MD, HMD FAAFP as part of its bian-nual conference entitled “Innovation! Meeting Today’s Medical Challenges” - October 11-13, 2013. To register, visit http://medicalchallenge.eventbrite.com/. www.icimed.com

When functioning optimally, the immune system has two critical functions: identify self from non-self and to destroy or eliminate non-self. “Left to its own devices, the body tends towards health,” Dr. Stoff observes. “In most cases we have but to get out of the way.” What, then, are we to do when our immune system fails to protect us? Illness occurs when the elements of the immune system:1.Incorrectly identifies an invader and/or attacks ‘self’ (auto-immune diseases such as anky-losing spondylitis, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, CFS SLE and many more) 2.Fails to identify an invader (or wrongly manufactured cell such as cancer) 3.Is compromised due to poor nutrition, infection, trauma, toxicity or stress to the extent that it is unable to overcome the immune insult. This presentation will cover some of the key aspects of pattern recognition of a T & B cell subset panel, based on the above, as it applies to treating patients with severe and chronic diseases in a Family Practice setting.Participants will have the opportunity to learn:1.Basic interpretation of a commonly available comprehensive T & B cell subset panel.2.Basic pattern recognition of things that commonly compromise immune function.3.Initial therapeutic interventions using; homeopathics, nutraceuticals, herbal medicines and legend pharmaceuticals, as needed, that can address the patterns of immunological damage regardless of the disease diagnosis. Jesse A. Stoff, MD, MDH, FAAFP is an internationally renowned physician, with extensive credentials in immunology, naturopathy, homeopathy, acupuncture, and holistic medicine. He is a licensed Medical Doctor, a Certified Naturopathic Physician, a Certified Acupuncturist, and a licensed Homeopathic Physician. A graduate of New York Medical College, he pursued extensive post-doctoral training including a fellowship at the Royal London Homeopathic Hospital in London, England. He has authored/co-authored dozens of articles and 8 books including co-authoring the bestsellers Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: The Hidden Epidemic and The Prostate Miracle. He has also served as a member of the Clinical Nutrition Board of Cancer Treatment Centers of America, Inc. As Medical Director of the Stoff Institute for Medical Research, he consults with physicians and medical groups both domestically and abroad on the subjects of immune system disorders and immune recon-stitution. As a result of his research he has developed several new molecular complexes, one of which is now being patented as a true anti-biotic replacement. Online registration is available at the ICIM Web site. Make sure to bring your friends and colleagues along to this exciting event.

Lymph System...Key to Health? by William Brown, Ph.D. LMT. To say that manual lymph merely works on the surface while other systems of lymph go deeper “to break up proteins” is to reveal a serious lack of knowledge about the physiology of the body and how the lymphatic system works. Manu-al lymph drainage/massge is a massage of the skin, not the muscles. It works on the surface because 50% of all lymph vessels, nodes, and pathways in the body are di-rectly under the surface of the skin. What happens when you move 50% of all the lymphatic fluid in the body? The other half of the deeper lymphatics move in direct propor-tions because as a fluid medium it is all corrected!

What are the origins of lymphatic scalar wave research? In the mid 1930s a machine was created by Nikola Tesla and George Larahavsry to treat cancer. Dr. Eryle (the founder of the CC) wrote in Lakahavsry’s book that the treatment was effective. Ultimately all health care and medical protocols impact the immune system. The lymphatic system is the immune system. The lymphatic scalar wave experimental research project is frequency modulation on the stimulation on the lymphatic system, combined with a predicated on the acceleration of the lymph flow through the application of lymphatic massage. There are many massage techniques that are combined with the words “lymphatic massage” for mass appeal. “Oriental lymphatic drainage”, “Reiki Lymphatics”, and “Swedish Lym-phatic Massage” are just a few. This marketing technique is creating confusion in the profes-sional community and distrust from the public. Lymphatic massage is in no way connected to Asia or Sweden. The true origin of lymphatic massage is Egyptian. Imhotep incorporated this gentle massage in Egypt before the more aggressive Asian and Swedish techniques were discovered many years later. When correctly administered to the skin by a spiritually-minded therapist, body water is restructured by the “coaxing” of toxic waters to elimination from the body. Under no cir-cumstances is lymphatic to cause pain, fatigue, or discomfort in any creature to which it is correctly administered. Water is our common denominator. Our water ebbs and flows with the moon energy like the oceans. With this consciousness of our ebbing and flowing, we find ourselves living intui-tively rather than emotionally. We begin thinking and moving with our hearts instead of our minds. This is the philosophy of gentle lymphatic massage .

He is a NCBTMB Certified Instructor of Lymphatic Massage, and offers a free class on self help lymphatic mas-sage at the Sedona Community Center on Monday’s at 1:00 PM.

HEINI’S CHEESE- A LOCAL TREASURE FOR OVER 75 YEARS! In 1935, John Dauwalder purchased a small cheese plant in Berlin, Ohio and decided to relo-cate his family there from Switzerland. Relying

on a combination of traditional cheese makings methods learned in his homeland, the local availability of fresh Amish Farm Milk, and the strong work ethic of the local community, Mr. Dauwalder created HEINI’S CHEESE CHALET. Today, HEINI’S CHEESE CHALET is one of Holmes County’s largest working cheese plants producing millions of pounds of Natural Cheeses each year that are shipped to Supermarkets and Natural Foods stores throughout the United States to be sold under the HEINI’S CHEESE label. At HEINIS our cheeses are produced using 100% Amish Farm Milk- milk that is free of added growth hormones. We purchase this milk from over 220 Amish Farms; family farms with an average herd size of 8-10 cows, and transport the milk directly to our pro-cessing plant. There, HEINI’S Master Cheese-makers produce over 20 varieties of cheeses including our famous HEINI’S “Lactose Free” YOGURT CHEESE, LACEY BABY SWISS and a complete menu of traditional Amish Specialty Cheeses. Look for HEINI’S Cheese in the Specialty Cheese section of your local supermar-ket! If you have any trouble finding us, give us a call at 877-745-7207.

Charkha Exotic Indian Cuisine We serve authentic North Indian Cui-sine. It is a family owned and operated business. The owner’s name Resham Lal and I am his partner and brother, Baljinder Dadra. Our family also owns another restaurant in State Col-lege, PA named India Pavilion. The website is www.indiapa-vilion.net . We have had this restaurant for about 16 years now.

How Charkha was started? Last year, India Pavilion catered a 3 day wedding in akron,

Ohio. The hosts of the wedding were friends of another catering we had done in PA. After doing some reach about Akron, we found out Cleveland was quite close by, we also had a few friends/family members close to Cleveland. After sometime we realized there were no Indian restaurants in Downtown Cleveland. That’s where we got the idea of opening up an Indian restaurant in Downtown. We did a lot of research about cleveland. We tried the local restaurants here and realized we need some authentic North Indian food in Downtown. We chose the Warehouse district because of the location. We wanted to be in a area where we were able to serve the business men/women during their lunch break. So far business has been great. We have had many many returning customers and have made a handful of regu-lar customers as well. About the food, all of our recipes are from India Pavil-ion. We really focus on quality with our food. Our fathers have been cooking a very long time and have really fi ne tuned each and every item on the menu. Our specialty dishes would include, Shahi Paneer Ko-rma, Saag Paneer Burji and many more. Food as Sacred Source “You are what you eat.” We’ve heard that statement many times before. So what does that really mean? “You” as the center of your own “U”niverse are guided by the resonate frequen-cies of your consciousness. So you attract that which resonates in your world, that which aligns with you, yourself. If you are vibrating at a very rapid or light frequency, you will at-tract rapid or lighter density energies to you in the form of people, animals, places, things, situations and circum-

stances. If you are vibrating at a slower or heavier frequency, you will attract more dense energies to you. We are producers and consumers by the natural order of life. We produce our-selves as a species through the processes of cell mitosis physically and through transmuta-tions ethereally. Both are caused by energetic vibratory frequencies. The energetic produc-tion of material mass is more familiar to our consciousness. However, the transmutation of etheric energy as production is more vast, because it covers the soul (emotions), the mind, and the spirit. When dealing with consumption the body appears to require mass or material to a greater degree. The soul, mind, and spirit need less mass or materiality, as they are etheric and lighter in their resonance. The soul, mind and spirit only use aspects of material reso-nance to experience the physical/material realm. What sustains these bodies is that which supports their life force. On a physical level, food and water sustain life--food being the bulk of the appar-ent intake. Water is liquid ether, two hydrogen molecules and one oxygen molecule, and, of course oxygen, itself to breathe. A healthy body is actually composed of one part matter and two parts ether. So, lighter density foods are thus more essential to sustain life. Theses foods, fruits, vegetables, herbs, nuts, and seeds, are actually alive themselves. They are freshest when eaten right off the tree or out of the earth. Since most people live in cities, the next best thing is to purchase food at the growing number of local farmer’s markets and grocery stores. These foods can be marinated and served raw/live. If cooked, they can be marinated, sautéed, baked, stir fried and steamed for optimal nutrition. Raw food is recognized as high resonating food, as it is intact in its nutritional value. The living enzymes contain so many nutrients that the body really requires fewer intakes, because it is actually being nourished. It contains more liquid ether/water and more etheric essences, as vitamins and minerals are still energetically available for consumption. This means instant energy and strength, so that the body can function at its peak. When the body does this, then the endocrine system functions well and hormones are balanced. When hormones are balanced then you feel better, happier. These hormones are endorphins that allow for the soul (emotional body) to handle the occurrences of life in a balanced way. When the body is healthy, blood flows to the brain in sufficient amounts to promote syner-gistic functions. This creates a positive attitude and though pattern. As you function harmo-niously with life, there is then time for meditation, prayer, yoga, tai chi, and other modalities of spiritual practice. Just think, all this from eating raw foods. You have chosen life. Cookedfoodscanalsobenutritionalandbeneficialaswell.Thisispossibleifthey aren’t “cooked to death”. Meaning they are still vibrant in color, texture, and li-quidity. They tend to be heavier in density depending on the substance. If it’s a vegetable or grain, it resonates higher when prepared steamed, lightly stir-fried, sautéed or baked. Processed foods are purchased with little to no life force. In fact many disrupt your life force by design. The little life force found in some is gone once heat is applied. So you are then indulging in empty calories, causing the desire to eat more so the body can feel full. If eating meat, animals must be killed before being consumed. Karmically this is a concern for some because of the deplorable conditions animals are raised in. The adrenaline produced by the stressful suffering of these animals can and does produce toxic effects on the human body. The long and short term effects of this require detoxifi-cation, karmaically and physically. While some nutrition can still be gained from the dead flesh, it’s minimal. The most commonly known benefit of consuming meat is the ready source of protein and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA). Both of these aspects are valid, yet one must weigh the facts that “CLA” is only valuable in grassfed animals. Domestic animals are rarely fed just grass anymore. Dangerous steroids, antibiotics, feminine hormones and preservatives are the consistently added ingredients to the diets of animals for human consumption. So if you’re going to consume meat, then grass-fed, corn fed and free range would be the labels to look for. Hunting and fishing can also be a viable means of securing healthy meat. The suggested amount of consumption every three days, so that the body can adequately digest the meat within the 72 hours it takes. Another factor to consider helping in the digestion of meat if of course raw living foods. Coming full circle, why not return to the original source of nourishment? Life begets life. When eating foods that promote life with the living components of matter in the form of vitamins and minerals, you consume the higher resonating, higher frequency foods. The living essences, or chi, of the plant is etheric and intact. “You are what you eat”. A “live-it” consisting of 75-80% raw food, 15-20% cooked and 5%, if meat (red, white fish and fowl) is including, is a formula for optimal health. The spirit is elevated because the food consumed is resonating higher. An important note that can’t be ignored is that all food that is prepared with love and conscious intent to nourish has resonant value, no matter how dense. Love has been known to sustain life with even the worst of food. Energy—the “inner-chi” affects food on all levels, because it comes from within you as the one preparing it. “What goes around comes around” is another one of those saying that we’ve all heard. Julissa’s ViewIn the rapidly changing city of Atlanta there is a dynamic culture of socialites ebbing and flowing alongside the ever evolving and fast paced private sector, driving forward a passionate and thriving so-cial sector, and a soaking in the southern charm. These five million Atlantians are a young diverse crowd, always ready to venture out for something new, never leaving behind the warm southern charm of familial familiarity. I have lived in Atlanta half my life, and at 22 – I am just scratching the surface of what this great city has to offer.

From historic sites dating to the Civil War, small corner farmers markets, and well worn porch chairs for idle conversation to contemporary art museums, fining dining with breathtaking vistas, and cultural festivals every month of the year… Atlanta has some-thing to share with YOU. I look forward to sharing my adventures, new discoveries, and point of view. [email protected]

When Bruegger’s Bagels opened its first bakery in Troy, N.Y., in 1983, it was esti-mated that less than one-third of Americans had ever tasted a bagel. Company founders Nord Brue and Mike Dressell would change that by perfecting an authentic New York-style bagel with a crisp shell and soft, chewy center, and sharing it with the rest of the nation. Today, utilizing that same artisan baking heritage, bagels are still kettle-boiled and baked in stone hearth ovens in small batches throughout the day at each of Bruegger’s Bagels’ 300 locations. The company still relies on the same recipe for its bagels with just five core ingredients: flour, water, malt, yeast and salt. Over the years, Bruegger’s Bagels has expanded to many communities and devel-oped new traditions and products including its cold-packed, 100 percent made-in-Vermont cream cheese, which was introduced to bakeries in 1985; its Bottomless Mug Club, which gained popularity in 1990; and St. Patrick’s Day Green Bagels, which were first baked in Boston in the 1990s. Its menu now includes more than 20 different bagel varieties made with fresh, high quality and simple ingredients. Bruegger’s also offers its guests a variety of menu items that includes fresh-baked breads, custom-roasted coffee, breakfast sandwiches, garden-fresh salads, hearty soups, lunch sandwiches, panini and desserts, with a frequently changing menu reflecting seasonal and geographical specialties. Bruegger’s Bagels is dedicated to the communities it serves and supports charitable causes both locally and nationally. see ad p. 14

“In 2006, Jonathan Carp our President was visiting his friend Ako in Japan. She took him to a Buddhist restaurant run by monks outside of Kyoto. During that lunch, he was served blocks of konnyaku in various shapes. When told about the properties of this food, an idea was born. After returning from Japan and a coincidental article in the Wall Street Journal about the wonders of one of the main ingredients of the noo-dle, he launched Miracle Noodle. Since that day in March 2006, Jonathan recruited all the members of his immediate family, sisters Andrea and Jill and mother and father Susan and Lewis to help with the new company. We have grown every year and have sold many millions of packs of noodles worldwide and have been expanding our line every year.

We have been mentioned by name by numerous news programs, Dr. Oz, Rachael Ray, and celebrity chefs like Rocco Dispiroto in

his cookbooks but what makes this journey especially rewarding is the daily emails and letters we receive from people who for whatever reason can longer eat noodles like gluten free dieters, diabetics, and people on

weight loss plans.

Shirataki noodles were originally developed in Asia, but they have re-cently come to the attention of people around the world. Because these noodles are almost totally a beneficial type of fiber, they have almost no

“bad” carbohydrates. There are some indications that they may have other health benefits as well. from about.com (see art. pg. 14)

Women and Retirement: What You Need to Know by Rita M. Maher, Wealth AdvisorStratos Wealth Partners, 30575 Bainbridge Rd., Suite 100

Solon, OH 44139. Cell 440.668.9889. Direct 440.505.5646 Fax 440.505.5647 /[email protected] More than half of women (53%) surveyed recently are the primary breadwin-ners in their households, yet only 20% consider themselves “very well prepared” with their financial decision making.1 Nearly one-third of those surveyed said they earn more than their spouse as a direct result of the rocky economy. Among male breadwinners, 45% consider themselves “very well prepared” with their financial decision making. Educating themselves about investments and long-term planning can help women feel more comfort-able with riskier—yet potentially more rewarding—investments. As more women enter the field of financial advising and planning, female investors may also be more inclined to seek advice from other women. Why Women Need to Save More Now Men and women may not be on equal footing when it comes to investing for the future. That’s because, on average, women earn only about 80 cents for every dollar earned by men.2 Because they earn less, women often are unable to invest as much as men. However, in order to make up for other gaps in retire-ment benefits, women may actually need to invest more. Women typically spend more years out of the workforce to care for family mem-bers. Although this trend doesn’t apply to single women as much as married women, it is still a factor for all women. At some point, your parents or another relative may need you to chip in and help out. It is estimated that, on average, women spend seven years out of the workforce to care for family members.2 People often don’t realize how leaving work can impact retirement. Traditional pension plans are generally determined by years of service. So leaving work for periods of time often means lower retirement benefits. In fact, the Employee Benefit Research Institute reports that the average annual pension benefit of a woman aged 65 is $12,137 compared with $19,557 for the average 65-year-old man.3 Furthermore, only 29.4% of women over 65 receive pension benefits at all.3 Making the financial challenge more complex, women, on average, live five years longer than men, according to the National Center for Health Statistics. Therefore, they tend not only to have longer retirements and need to prepare financially for more years in retirement than their male counterparts, but they also must consider the fact that a couple’s retirement savings may be diminished by health care costs for the spouse who dies first. As a result of some of these factors, women may also receive lower Social Security benefits than men. Social Security benefits are calculated based on a person’s highest 35 years of earnings. If a benefit recipient does not have 35 years in the workforce, the Social Security Administration will add zero-earnings years to his or her record to equal 35 years. This will lower the average monthly earnings figure and may result in lower benefits for women who have not worked for a total of 35 years.Working Toward a Solution There are a number of steps women can follow when planning for a comfortable retirement:•Carefully consider how much risk they are willing to take in exchange for the potential to earn higher returns. Historically, equity investments have provided higher returns than less risky investments like money markets and short-term bonds over the long term, although past performance is no guarantee of future results.•Obtain information about the retirement benefits that are available through their employer, and actively participate in any plans offered.•Seek education about the investment vehicles that can help them reach their retirement goals. An investment professional is an excellent source of information and guidance to sort through the many choices available.•Contact local professional/trade associations, women’s groups, community colleges and adult education centers for information on investment or personal finance seminars taking place.

Most importantly, women need to recognize the unique challenges they face and start saving and investing as early as possible to overcome them.

Adults Return to College – Every Other WeekendIn 2012 more adults than ever before returned to the college classroom.

Adult learners already comprise over 50% of students in higher education. By 2019 the number of students over the age of 25 will increase by nearly 25%. Going to college as an adult is different. Adults must balance work, family, life and education. According to Paul Bowers, dean of Professional and Graduate Studies at Hiram College, “Adults bring a wealth of work and life experience to the classroom and expect to be able to share that experience with other students and faculty who understand what it means to return to college as an adult with obligations beyond school.”Adult college students seek:• Flexible scheduling to meet work, family, and life demands • Adult-focused student services• Affordable programs and assistance with the financial aid process• Technology that supports and enhances the face-to-face classroom experience• Flexible credit transfer policies. Hiram’s Weekend College builds on the College’s 163-year history of excellence. For over 35 years the Weekend College – part of Hiram’s Professional and Graduate Studies program – has provided innovative and fully accredited programs for adults earning bach-elor’s degrees… attending classes every other weekend. Have you Considered Foreign Currency as a Long Term InvestmentCourtesy Dinar Trade, the largest dealer of Iraqi currency, registered with the U.S. Depart-ment of Treasury, 2004. If you are seeking to diversify your investment strategy, you may want to look beyond U.S. borders and consider the global currency market. Roughly four times as large as the U.S. bond market, global currencies enable investors to hedge portfolios

dominated by the U.S. dollar. Those countries at the onset of growth and economic development represent those with the best opportunities for significant returns – especially in for-eign currency.

The newly demo-cratic country is home to one of the largest oil and natural gas reserves in the world. After the U.S.-led invasion of 2003 ended more than two decades of stagnation caused by wars, sanctions and underinvestment, production has revived and is now stronger than ever. The country currently produces more than $3.4 million barrels of oil daily and is expected to increase production to $4 million barrels a day by 2013. In addition to these rich reserves, the country now hosts the Arab League Summit and the Energy Expo and has begun to show obvious signs of economic recovery. In fact, the International Monetary Fund has projected that the Iraqi economy will grow 11.1% to $144 billion this year alone. It usually takes students less time to graduate (4.2 years) from a Private College compared to 5.2 years at a Public Col-lege selection is one of the biggest decisions that a young person is asked to make. cont. from pg. 1 Dr Sagar One day, he was enlight-ened by research studies which prove that up to 80% of oncology health care pro-fessionals have developed a psychological syndrome called burnout. This syn-drome partly explains the dissatisfaction with health care delivery, and it has ma-jor repercussions for patient care and health outcomes. Dr. Sagar has taught the spiritual counsellors’ course at Wilfred Laurier Univer-sity and is on the Faculty of the Center for Mind-Body Medicine, Washington D.C. He is Past-President of the Society for Integrative On-cology. His interests include integrating processes for patient care and health out-comes, mind-body medi-cine, and evidence-based complementary therapies. He acknowledges that there is a withdrawal of pragmatic religious principles from in-side our institutions. In ad-dition, the dehumanization of genuine care is causing a new and serious epidemic that is affecting beneficial health outcomes. Both health care institutions and health care professionals are suffer-ing from an epidemic of the disease called spiritual mal-aise.

Guest from Ohio - March 3, 2009 We recently stayed at your hotel on March 3 rd and really enjoyed our stay. I was wondering if you could tell me what type of pillows were on the bed. I remember there were four and they were by far the most comfortable I have ever used. I must say out of the three hotels we stayed at while in Florida, yours was by far the nicest. We had a bit of trouble find-ing it but it was very comfortable and the staff was very hospitable.

Guest from London - October 16, 2008-We stayed for 2 weeks at the BEST WESTERN PLUS Orlando Gateway Hotel and found that it had everything we required. We were out most days and evenings so it is a good base being

so close to I-Drive. The room was clean; towels were replaced daily, as was the bathroom, although it could have done with a bit of a revamp - new coat of paint etc. The shop sold toiletries, drinks, snacks as well as pizzas, sandwiches, salads and giant cakes (we recom-mend the carrot cake) and was open from very early till very late. We saw no bugs in the hotel as we had experienced several years earlier at the Rodeway Inn. We were on the 6th floor so didn’t hear much from the pool or the bar. Laundry facilities were good; the attrac-tions desk people were helpful. We also used the interactive TV service (a couple of films) which was simple to use. It was much better that we expected it to be and would stay there

Self-Defense? What is it and why are most victims afraid to use it? Self-Defense is not necessarily having the physical strength to ward off an attacker. Most all people/vic-tims already have what it takes to protect themselves. The problem lies in knowing what to

do when you are attacked. Most vic-tims lack confi dence and self-esteem, making them easy targets for an un-expected attack. These types of at-tacks are usually robberies or rape and committed by one or sometimes two assailants. Domestic violence can also

be categorized here, even though most victims may be aware of their attacker’s intentions. They prey on situations where you are alone, vulnerable and seem not to be aware of your surroundings. At The Academy of Self-Defense we focus on your strengths and teach you

how to use them for self-defense, which will eventually strengthen your weaknesses and bring out new abilities you never knew you had. In a short time you will gain confi dence in yourself and your ability to defend yourself in any given situation. Your self-esteem will be heightened and you will be more aware of your surroundings and look more confi dent when you are out and about by yourself. This attribute alone will usually ward off a possible attack. At The Academy of Self-Defense you will experience personal changes as you move through the belt ranks. Besides gaining confi dence and self-esteem, you will understand how your body and mind work together to allow you to do things that you never thought were possible. All people learn and process things differently, which makes our style unique in its fundamental practice to teach Self-Defense to all age groups from 5 to 75 & up. We teach practical street self-defense. You are never too old to learn how to protect yourself from an unsuspecting attack. We make learning easy and fun, no matter how you process information. Eventually you will become profi cient in defending yourself if the need would ever arise. There is no pressure to keep up with anyone, you work at your pace and ability levels as you proceed thru the ranks. We will always encourage you but never push. Even though, self-defense is needed in today’s society more than ever before. Many people feel that owning a gun or getting a concealed carry permit will give them the protec-tion they need. This is not always true, in an unsuspecting attack; you may not have access to your gun. This is when hand to hand combat/self-defense training will enable you to protect yourself or your loved ones. At The Academy of Self-Defense you will learn practical self-defense techniques that will allow you to defend yourself on the street from almost any attack situation. If you are not looking to earn any belt rank and just want to become profi cient in defending yourself, The Academy of Self-Defense is the school for you. We have a no long term contracts policy that allows you to train and attend classes on a 6 weeks basis. For more information; visit our website at: The Academy of Self-Defense.com or like us on Face Book. 330-814-5058

How to Improve Your Outcomes and ResultsMay 4, 2012 by Michael Gidlewski, President Achievement Unlimited, Philadelphia, PA. I believe that no one has to be a victim of the past. Attitudes are habits formed through repeated exposure to ideas or behaviors, so old attitudes can be changed by using the same fundamental learning process that formed them in the fi rst place – spaced repeti-tion. We know that if you use the power of spaced repetition to change the ideas you read see and hear every day, it will begin to change the way you think. If we use the spaced repetition of powerful ideas and actions we can change our conditioning process and scripting programs and our belief systems so that our habits of thought, our attitudes, change too. As your thinking changes you will start to develop new attitudes and the way you act will change. Your behavior will become more positive and productive as your thinking becomes more positive and productive, and when that happens, the results you get from life will become more positive and productive. The change in attitude will bring about changes in behavior and the results you achieve will improve and grow in signifi cance. With improved results, the quality and quan-tity of the success you enjoy will also increase. People want to change their results, people want to do better. So if you think differently, you’ll have a more positive attitude. You’ll take different actions and bring about more of the results you want in life. Attitude motivation works from the inside out. What’s more, when people understand and apply this concept, they discover they can be proactive and select the results they want and start inputting new ideas into their brain immediately. This in turn generates new ways of thinking and being which starts to change their actions to bring about those predetermined results. By doing this, you become a ben-efi ciary of your own process to get the results you want. You develop a benefi ciary mental-ity. Before you can achieve new results in your life, you must believe it’s possible which probably means you need to change you current thinking. Henry Ford said if you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right either way. You will achieve only when you have the attitude that you can achieve. We are all creatures of habits and when we change our habits, our habitual ways of thinking and acting, we change our results for the better.
