In October, Atlanta will host the Association for Conflict Resolution’s International Conference. The theme will be “Whole of Community: Integrating Ap-proaches and Practices to Address Conflicts in a Cha-otic World.” This organization (ACR) includes law-yers, counselors, educators, mediators, arbitrators, and others dedicated to enhancing both the practice and public understanding of conflict resolution. Attendees will be exposed to numerous styles of mediations, and requirements throughout the U.S. and the world. Why is Mediation even more applicable in today’s economic climate? Sally G. was heading toward foreclosure. Because she is a resident of the State of Florida that requires mandatory foreclosure mediation (Georgia does not), she was fortunate to have the ex-ternal pressures of the court suggesting that the lender and she try to arrive at some agreement. The program has been so successful in St. Lucie County, Florida, that other counties in Florida are considering adopting, and other states are looking at this model to incorpo-rate.

Having a conference of this magnitude in the State of Georgia should give our policymakers an opportu-nity to see the successes in other states (and around the world) in various areas. Well-trained Mediators have the ability to assist the disputing parties in resolv-ing their conflict and in maintaining their relation-ships. And one of the foremost training facilities for mediators has been here, in Atlanta, for over 30 years, established by the late Griffin B. Bell, Former Attorney General of the United States. Join us in downtown Atlanta, Oct. 7-10, 2009. ACR has taken a leading role in many important projects, such as the establishment of peer mediation programs in schools throughout the United States and here in Georgia as a way to reduce school violence. We’re fortunate that Atlanta has been selected for this International Conference. Phone770-66ACRGA for more information or go to http://acrga.net to become a member of ACR and register for this important event.

For Healthy, Happy Relation-ships, here are some basic guide-lines for reference. Acceptance: Don’t try to change someone. This is a must. If a person really wants to change, that person will need to be motivated and take action. Period. Accept the little flaws that come with each person. You accept theirs; they accept yours. That’s life!Bonding: Bonding with another person generally does take time. Communicate: talk, listen, share the good and the bad, ask questions, compliment instead of nag or insult. In short be a friend; make a friend. Be fair, flexible and friendly. If and when things get out of hand and it is your fault, apologize and ask forgiveness and move on. Dependable: Be a friend; i.e. be dependable. Things happen from time to time and cancellations are a part of life. But on the whole, if you say you’ll do something, do it. Take responsibility for your own ac-tions.Expectations: How many people really always look like movie stars, have zero health ailments, endless income without hardly ever going to work, fabu-lous cars and homes, friends and

family who totally adore them and come to their beckon call ect? Get real. Expect a little less than the media portray and learn more about humans by joining the real world scenario.Be Flexible: Keep a little mystery in the relationship. Juggle your schedule and invite the other person to a surprise picnic or walk at a local public park area. Goals - Develop some together. Toss what no longer works, what you outgrew or what may no longer seem important or is finished. And then inherit or create new goals. Health: Take care of your own health and encourage others, too. Even in this day and age of cable television with movies and the Internet available 24/7, it’s still amazing the number of people out there who can’t “Just say no” to unhealthy behaviors. Don’t be afraid to share your healthy views and encourage healthy choices and living. Intimacy: Intimacy can mean a hug during a tough time, a smile of encouragement in the face of adversity and compassion when you least feel like giving. Don’t abuse or take advantage or the other person. And don’t let yourself be abused or taken advantage of.

7 Deadly Sins of Dieting

By: Sandra Prior You’re looking great - And then it happens. You stumble, fall and commit a dietary blunder. With the day nearly complete, you find yourself suddenly pulling into the nearest fast-food joint ready to wolf down a large combo: fries, the greasy burger and a drink big enough to throw blood-sugar levels into a tailspin. Check out the com-mon dietary pitfalls below. We’ll show you how to make the very best of potentially disastrous situations.

ries. Not only are the calories from soda pop empty of any nu-tritional value, they also deplete your body of vital minerals.

#3: Caffeine Addiction“Caffeine is the world’s most commonly used stimulant.” says Roland Griffiths, Ph.D., profes-sor of psychiatry and neurosci-ence at Johns Hopkins. “The latest research demonstrates, however, that when people don’t get their usual dose they can suffer a range of withdrawal symptoms, including headache, fatigue, difficulty concentrating.

#4: AcidIn tests done on the acidity levels of soda, soda was found to have a pH of 2.5. To put that into perspective, consider that battery acid has a pH of 1 and pure water has a pH level of 7.

#5: Save MoneyYou can purchase 12, 8 ounce cans for around $4. However, a person who drinks just 2 cans of soda a day, will pay $206 over the course of a year to keep her soda habit going.

#6: Lose WeightResearches at the University of Texas Health Science Center found that diet sodas put a person at a higher risk of becoming overweight. According to their

10 Reasons to Quit Drinking Soda PopBy: Afton Neslson at www.associatedcontent.com

research, “artificial sweeteners can interfere with the body’s natural ability to regulate calorie intake.

#7: Artificial Sweetener IssuesConsumption of artificial sweet-eners may make some people crave more sweet things which will in turn create more crav-ings for people who are trying to avoid sweet foods for health reasons.

#8: Mineral DepletionBecause caffeine is a diuretic and increases urine volume, more minerals are leaving the body before having a chance to be absorbed and put to use.

#9: Higher Risk for Diabetes While no research has definitive-ly shown that soda pop causes diabetes, the daily consumption of soda pop does create other problems that could lead to dia-betes: specifically weight gain.

#10: Soda Replaces Healthier DrinksOne of the biggest problems with soda is it acts as a replace-ment drink for healthier options. In the 1950’s, children drank 3 cups of milk for every cup of sweet drink. Today that statistic is flipped.

Do you drink too much soda pop? Is it time for you to cut back, or even eliminate con-sumption of soda? Here are ten reasons to quit drinking soda pop.

#1: DehydrationDrinking soda with caffeine and sugar causes your body to be-come dehydrated. Caffeine is a diuretic and causes an increase in urine volume. When you drink a caffeinated soda to quench your thirst, you will actually become thirstier.

#2: High CaloriesA can of Coke contains 10 tea-spoons of sugar, which is 100% of the daily recommended value for adults. An 8 ounce can of soda has around 100-200 calo-

“IV. BE OPEN MINDED TO OTHER POINTS OF VIEWS (and have the integrity to admit when you’re wrong)

In my opinion, in general, the largest problem with most religions and their followers is that they too often think they have all the answers. Let me let you in on a little secret: No one has all the answers!! “It” (this phenomenon we call we call “the supernatural”) is not designed for any one person or religion to have all the answers. Even Jesus Christ asked questions of his Heavenly Father!”

Watermelon Health Fun Factsby: hannah punitha

Add Spice To Your Marital Life With Water Melons:

The popular summer fruit may be a natural Vi-agra say research scientists. The luscious summer fruit is rich in an amino acid called citrulline. Citrulline relaxes and dilates blood vessels very much like Viagra and other drugs that are used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED).

Fight Fatigue and Keep Your Metabolism in High Gear with Water Melons On a typical summer day watermelons are extreme-ly refreshing as they have very high water content, 92% water and 8% sugar. It not only replaces the electrolytes lost through sweat but also hydrates your cells and maintains the water balance in the cells. Metabolism is boosted as the functionality of the cells is increased, ultimately energizing your body.

Are you Stressed Out? Relax And Chill Out With Water Melon Juice Or Cubes Watermelon is a ‘sen-sational’ stress buster says research. Watermelon is high in vitamin B6- and is used by the body to produce brain chemicals, which may relieve stress, anxiety and panic attacks. It naturally relaxes the blood vessels without any drug side ef-fects.

The Smartest Pick for Loosing Weight

The battle of the bulge could be won with the sweet and juicy melons that can be served as a lip smacking des-sert or a snack without add-ing to the bulge. Hence the watermelon diet is the perfect choice of an ideal weight loss program.
