TRANSCRIPT
A healthy liver is the key to a healthy life! The health and vitality of every body system depends to a large extent on the vitality of the liver. It is the body’s most complex and useful organ – a powerful chemical plant that converts everything we eat, breathe and absorb through the skin into life-sustaining substances. The liver is a major blood reservoir, filtering out toxins at a rate of over a quart of blood per minute. The liver is a vast storehouse for vitamins, minerals and enzymes that it releases as needed to build and maintain healthy cells.
Roles of the liver Digestion • Produce bile for diges2on of fats • Store enzymes for diges2on Detoxification • Filter the blood of toxins • Recycle hemoglobin (red blood
cells) • Remove excess hormones from
the blood Chemical synthesis • Create numerous essen2al
chemical compounds: an2oxidants, proteins, cholesterol, etc.
Metabolism • Store glucose (as glycogen) • Convert faIy acids into glucose,
cholesterol and other essen2al faIy acids
• Convert aminoacids (protein) into usable building blocks for the body
Storage • Store vitamins, minerals and
other nutrients Immunity • Kupffer cells capture & digest
bacteria, fungi, parasites, worn-‐out blood cells, and cellular debris.
