Preface

This is a short e-book to help individuals, groups, and humanity as a whole heal cancer consciousness. It is not intended to be about healing cancer itself though the reader might find insights here to assist in that regard. However, if you are in the midst of grief, fear, depression, or anger about facing cancer, this read is probably not for you at this time. If you or a loved one is facing life with cancer, please know that I hold you in the highest esteem for your challenging circumstances and send you much Love and healing thoughts, prayers, and energy. Please know you or your loved one is not to blame. You are learning, as we all are, through the paths of our lives—through our joys and our tragedies.

If, though, you have moved through some of the more intense emotions around a cancer diagnosis, or you have never had cancer but want to learn more about healing cancer consciousness, feel free to read on. As I always say when I introduce any of my teachings and learnings: Take what resonates with you and disregard the rest. I hope, though, that in this essay you might receive true soul healing that awakens more love, joy, and peace within you for your benefit and the benefit of all.

Much Love and Light,

Rev. Monica McDowell, MDivOctober 2012

Healing Cancer Consciousness

Everyone I have ever met has a fear of getting cancer. There may be one or two of you out there that don’t have this fear, but I haven’t met you yet. When I am working with a client, if I sense an energy that needs clearing and mention it, the most frequent question I get in response is, “Is it cancer?” Cancer seems to be an all-pervasive fear that seeps through our culture and our collective consciousness as well as our collective unconsciousness. On Facebook, I can’t count the number of times I’ve seen the meme, “I hate cancer” spread around via posters, comments, and other FB ads, and although I thoroughly understand the sentiment of hating cancer, I do want to shine a spotlight on that meme.

Because ultimately everything is energy, thoughts have energy, as do emotions. An elemental, as I am using it in this e-book, is simply an emotionally-charged thought form. Elementals can be very strong or very weak or anywhere in between, depending on the mental focus of the individual and the intensity of the emotion that “charges up” the thought. Think of a balloon: One filled up with a lot of air is going somewhere—a weakly deflated balloon is not. Thus, the stronger an elemental is (via focus and intensity), the more it can take on a life of its own and have an effect in the material world. All elementals exist within the collective human consciousness, they influence most of us without our full awareness, and they can be either beneficial or non-beneficial. (Eventually even non-beneficial elementals become beneficial because the destruction they cause can open us back up to healing in that area, but for the time being let’s stick with the duality of beneficial and non-beneficial for explanatory purposes.)

You might encounter a beneficial elemental when you walk into a building that is used for sacred space and you suddenly feel peaceful and know all is well. The prayers or meditations of the people who frequent that space have contributed to a powerful elemental that affects your thoughts and feelings in a positive way. On the other hand, you might experience a non-beneficial elemental when you walk into a store and thoughts to steal pop into your head even though you might never experience those thoughts in other stores or at other times, and have no desire or intention to steal. The thoughts of other people who stole or intended to steal combined with the fears of theft by the store employees contribute to a powerful elemental that affects you negatively as soon as you enter the space.

Lynne McTaggart, bestselling author of The Intention Experiment, writes about her own experiences recognizing the power of her own emotionally energized thoughts. On two occasions when she had fiercely negatively charged (angry) thoughts about acquaintances, she realized later that at the exact times she was having inner tirades against these women, they both experienced significant accidents and injuries. This is anecdotal evidence, of course, but in this book and in her subsequent book, The Bond, she lays out scientific evidence that suggests that our thoughts and feelings have a direct impact on our world.

When one person’s thoughts and emotions are combined with a lot of other people’s similar thoughts and emotions, a very large “elemental” is formed. Needless to say, the “fear of cancer” elemental in our society is enormous. When you add “hate” to that, the elemental only becomes more fierce.

A friend pointed out to me the other day that whole institutions in western countries are financially dependent on finding cures for cancer or treating it. In other words, if cancer were eliminated tomorrow with a new, miraculous, free supplement, a lot of people would be out of work: big pharma, cancer clinics, hospice workers, oncologist doctors, nurses, radiologists, non-profits, university research, (and even some healers!), etc. In other words, a large part of our society is living off cancer. Now many of the people working to find a cure for cancer or treat cancer have very good intentions and would be thrilled to be out of a job if it meant cancer were eliminated once and for all.

But when a large elemental based on fear and hate is formed, as there is around cancer, because it is fear/hate-based (rather than love-based) that elemental has a large shadow side. The shadow of the cancer elemental, because so much of our society is fueled by the existence of cancer for financial stability and even for financial greed, means that the cancer elemental keeps feeding on itself, actually preventing cures and the finding of a treatment that could be ubiquitously effective. Some would also say, that the elemental of cancer that weaves its way to everyone since we are all interconnected, even causes more cancer by drawing to the body’s cells the energy that can cause cancer or trigger the genetic tendency towards cancer to grow. Of course, there are other factors that contribute to cancer: environmental toxins, nutrition, exercise, etc., but even these factors can be largely influenced by how much the fear/hate cancer elemental is at work on a person’s or a group’s conscious or sub-conscious, for example, by causing self-sabotaging behaviors (such as lack of exercise or poor eating and life habits) or by causing group-sabotaging actions (such as disconnection from Nature leading to synthetic products, over-processed foods, poisoning the earth) that might contribute to getting cancer.

For sure, I am not someone who thinks that if someone gets cancer they are to blame because they caused it. The cancer elemental is much bigger than any one person’s thoughts or feelings about it. And since we see cancer in Nature: in animals and in tumorous plants (even in areas untouched by humanly created toxins), it is bigger than just humanity’s consciousness, let alone any one human individual’s consciousness. However, neither are we powerless against the cancer elemental or consciousness, and, in fact, we can greatly impact and even heal cancer and cancer consciousness if it is the highest and best for all.

So let’s look a little deeper at the cancer elemental to see what there is to learn from it. There are two aspects of it that I want to address. First is the fear of cancer itself. Why do we fear it so much? Heart disease is the number one killer in the United States and yet we don’t have near the fear around it. Perhaps, it’s because heart disease is more easily controlled through medicine and nutrition. Perhaps, heart disease, when it takes someone from us, via a heart attack, the person dies relatively painlessly. Perhaps what we fear so

Page 9: Healing the Cancer Consciousness  · Web viewHealing . Cancer Consciousness. Monica McDowell, MDiv. Healing Cancer Consciousness. Copyright © 2012 by Monica McDowell, MDiv. All

much then with cancer is the loss of control, the unknown, the possible long drawn out pain and suffering not only from the disease but from the treatments as well.

The counterpoint to the fear of the unknown aspect of the elemental is to surrender. For those of us who’ve had to learn surrender the hard way, we have learned that really we are in control of very little in our lives. Anything and everything can change at any time. Surrendering to this Flow of Life and trusting it are the anecdotes to the life-numbing fear that any disease diagnosis or tragedy can trigger in us. This is easier said than done, so if this is an area for you to look at in yourself, do so gently, and if necessary, with the help of a compassionate friend, therapist, healer, spiritual leader, or life coach.

The second aspect of it I want to look at is the cancer elemental itself. Cancer, like any material form, has its own consciousness and therefore its own elemental. What is it and where does it stem from? In my own looking at this cancer elemental I have discovered that it is a warped understanding of what I call the “Genesis Imperative,” that is, the impetus of creation to grow. In scriptural terms this is the command to “be fruitful and multiply.” And we see this in all of Nature: Nature always manifests as abundance, multiplying itself many times over. I am reminded of this every time I go outside to try and pick up all the fir cones in my yard that have been dropped en masse by two evergreen trees in our front yard. Those cones multiply faster than rabbits in heat!

The cancer elemental has this good “multiplying” imperative at its core but it has gotten off track in that the cancer cells want to grow, and grow, and grow some more because they are “afraid” of dying. (For more information on how to find the good at the core of anything, please see the blogpost: www.monicamcdowell.com/1/post/2012/06/how-to-clear-your-energy-in-6-steps-or-less.html). They are “afraid” of not existing. They “fear” the void. And so, the cells overgrow. But they do so at their own expense by eating up their own fuel (the body tissues), and running out of that fuel. It therefore hastens exactly what it fears the most and dies faster than if it hadn’t started overgrowing in the first place. Now if this isn’t a symptom of our entire culture (overgrowing and over-consuming and thereby running out of fuel which thus leads to its own destruction faster), I don’t know what is!

There are several ways I have seen we can work with, counteract, and even heal these cancer elementals in Nature, in ourselves, in our society, and in the systems within our society. First, in Nature, while it always manifests as abundance there is also a balancing system in Nature that prevents too much overgrowth of any one thing. There is a check and balance, a yin and yang—for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Too many of one kind of tree? Lightening causes a forest fire that wipes out all the trees, allowing an opportunity for the balance of new and varied trees and foliage to grow from the ashes. Too many of one kind of animal? The prey it feeds on is reduced by overfeeding of the predator, thus causing the predator numbers to be reduced by lack of food. And so it goes.

Thus, balance is a key factor in counteracting and healing the cancer elemental. Too much of a good thing can certainly be true in this case of the cancer elemental. So look to

Page 10: Healing the Cancer Consciousness  · Web viewHealing . Cancer Consciousness. Monica McDowell, MDiv. Healing Cancer Consciousness. Copyright © 2012 by Monica McDowell, MDiv. All

balance your personal energies physically, emotionally, and mentally. (Physical balance in work and play, exercise and rest, balanced diet, etc. Emotional balance as neither too hot/passionate or too cold/stoic. Mental balance in left brain/analytical and right brain/creative-meditative activities.) Check and balance is also an important factor for groups as well. If a leader, group, system, or an entire country has too much power over its members or over others, looking for ways to provide a check on that power through laws or other forms of accountability is important. (Balancing the rights of the individual with group rights, equal access of all to internal group process, protecting those who have less access to societal power vis-à-vis civil rights, the forms of government checking either other: judicial, executive, and legislative, etc.)

Another key factor is in our understanding of death. In healing the cancer elemental we must shift our understanding of death. From an energy and spiritual standpoint there is no death. What does happen in death? Our consciousness, our soul leaves its connection to the body. And what happens to the body? It is transformed and composted into new forms—which is true of the entire material universe. Our body’s existence as a unity of cells is the only thing that comes to an end, and even that in the big picture isn’t true because we are all One, everything is One, so our cells are always part of a larger unity that never dies. All consciousness, including our own, is eternal. All energy, including our own, is invincible. Energy doesn’t die—it can neither be created nor destroyed—energy can only be transmitted, transmuted, and transformed. This also applies to our cells. Their energy does not die! All energy is remembered; all information is stored forever!

Applying this to systems, then, many groups protect the group at the expense of its members because it fears that if it gives too many freedoms to its members, the group as an entity will die. Thus if a group’s primary raison d’être is perpetuating its own existence or power, this group will start to over-control its individuals and start to feed in on itself. Its esprit de corps (the spirit of the body) will then become a spiritual cancer and start hastening its own destruction. Look at the Catholic church in the sexual abuse scandal or any church, religious, political, ethnic, or national group that believes its own survival is more important than others, believes itself better than others, or believes it is the channel, the divine authority in the world, and you will see a systemic spiritual cancer in the making.

Another key aspect in understanding death is to understand the nature of the soul and life. Some people fear and mourn the loss of their body or their loved one’s body because “It was not my/their time” or “They died too early.” These thoughts have within them the belief that being in a body only happens once and that’s it. Thus, it’s unfair that someone dies young because it was their only chance to be here! It’s unfair that someone dies suffering because what a horrible way to live and die and they don’t get another chance! However, when you wake up to the awareness of the pre-existence of the soul and to multiple lives lived by the soul, this fear and this grief are greatly reduced or even eliminated. We can and do live embodied again if that is our soul’s choice and path, and we even reunite with our loved ones in body (in addition to reuniting in the spiritual realms). In other words, there is no loss! The person who dies tragically can live again

Page 11: Healing the Cancer Consciousness  · Web viewHealing . Cancer Consciousness. Monica McDowell, MDiv. Healing Cancer Consciousness. Copyright © 2012 by Monica McDowell, MDiv. All

(and in all likelihood has already lived in a body many times and probably with you!) and can experience or already has experienced all that an embodied life has to offer.

This also brings the larger picture into play that dying young or dying with a disease may have a catalytic effect that triggers greater spiritual, emotional, mental and physical health in family members or in society (thus harkening back to the everything non-beneficial always leads back to a benefit in the end). There are spiritual reasons that someone might die young. One healer told me that she saw that a young person’s soul had chosen to die young with cancer in this life because in their next life their soul intends to come back and discover a cure for cancer and thus, they needed the cellular experience of cancer and the seeming tragedy of it to fuel the next life’s discovery. I think this is totally beautiful even in its tragedy and a probable soul reason for many types of tragic deaths. A tragic death can also trigger more healing and growth in the loved ones left behind as perhaps they pick up the cause to find a cure for the disease, or create a law that would prevent other types of tragic death.

This then leads to the next key aspect of not just healing the elemental of cancer itself but the fear of cancer in us as well. In Reality we don’t die. Our cells don’t die. Our embodied forms simply change form when it is time. Our true essence (and our cells’ true essence) is divine spirit: eternal, infinite, invincible, and boundless. We cannot die. Ultimately, we cannot be harmed. I told my cells this once when I became aware they were afraid of getting cancer. I told them, “No. You cannot die, and therefore you do not need to fear cancer. Your essence is divine, eternal, indestructible energy.” I then saw the cells change instantly by communicating this to each other in an interconnected lattice of white light. The contraction of pain and fear in the cells immediately left as well.

The ultimate healing then is to realize the cancer elemental is based on a false belief and false fear: that of death. There is a kind of mental aikido that is called for here: being able to flip the fear on itself. Seeing the fear, acknowledging it, respecting it, and yet teaching it something that it had not thought of itself. In essence, teach your cells and your body to wake up and have their own mystical awakening to the Reality that they too are Light: eternal and invincible. They, too, are simply forms of the Divine who is Absolute. This creates a stronger mental elemental of Love that can dissolve the lesser fear-based elementals of and around cancer. At this level of Divine awareness, cancer doesn’t exist and even can’t exist because it’s based on a limited belief (death) and a limited emotion (fear/hate).

There is a great story of a woman, Anita Moorjani, who was nearly dead from cancer. She was a young woman, married, and large, cancerous lymphoma tumors had flooded her body. Near death (except for her heart, most of her organs had shut down) and in a coma, she had a spiritual or NDE (near death) experience. She connected with her True Self and realized the fear she’d had of being herself and expressing herself had given rise to her cancer. She also realized that her True Self was invincible. When the experience was over, she woke up fully in her body yet confused by her circumstances. She had felt her Oneness but couldn’t quite articulate everything she had known in that Oneness and now had to incorporate into her mental understanding of what was happening as a near

Page 12: Healing the Cancer Consciousness  · Web viewHealing . Cancer Consciousness. Monica McDowell, MDiv. Healing Cancer Consciousness. Copyright © 2012 by Monica McDowell, MDiv. All

comatose body lying in a hospital bed. As her confusion cleared, she said she remembered that she knew her True Self was invincible and she also knew this Reality would come to express itself in her bodily tissues. As a matter of medical fact, in the days and weeks that followed her mystical awakening, her multiple cancerous tumors shrank and disappeared entirely. She is fully healthy today. If you would like to hear her story firsthand you can read her book, Dying to Be Me, or watch her video on her website anitamoorjani.com.

The final understanding I want to offer is that although fear seems the opposite of Love and for illustrative purposes I’ve described it as so, in Reality there is no opposite to Love. Thus fear, and any other so-called “negative” or “non-beneficial” emotion (anger, sadness, jealousy, hatred, etc.) is ultimately Love-based but it’s cut a bit of itself off from Source. Think of it as a two-legged person thinking that they only have one-leg and trying to walk with just that one-leg! They’re going to hop around and not be able to walk at all. When you tell that person, “Um, hello, you actually have two legs,” suddenly they are restored even though there was nothing wrong with them in the first place. They only thought there was something wrong with them, and it crippled them.

This is how fear, anger, grief, etc. can hobble us when there’s actually no need of it. They make us think we are separated from Love when in Reality this cannot be true. So when you discover yourself in fear, anger, grief, hatred, etc., let it be a sign that you actually deeply love someone or something. If you’re angry at an injustice done, let it be a sign how much you love justice and fairness. If you’re hating something about someone, let’s say they are an egotist, focus on what you actually love that is signaling the hate, that is, you love generosity of spirit. If you’re afraid of getting cancer, then, let it be a sign to you that you deeply love your body, or your life, or your loved ones, or the earth, or any and all of the temporary forms of the Beloved of which you are, too. And when you name the Deep Love that fear signals to you, can you then stay in the Deep Love that you are? Use then, fear, anger, hatred, sadness—whatever it is—to signal to you that you actually deeply love and are Deep Love and stay there in that invincible, thought-feeling elemental. Much emotion may release when you open your heart to name who you really are and how deeply you love.

By going into the Deep Love and living from there, you cure all fears and elementals, no matter what happens in or to your body. Love is the highest vibration, and it can dissolve all lesser vibrations (including cancer) when it is invoked because truly only Love is Real. Love Is. You are. Your loved ones are, too. And nothing—not cancer, not any disease, not “death,” nor any temporary loss—can change that.

You are Love. Love is. Therefore You Are.

Enjoy and celebrate your Deep Love!

Tips for Healing Cancer Consciousness

Because cancer consciousness involves elementals or “emotionally energized thought forms” these tips relate to your thoughts, emotions, and beliefs around cancer. Use a journal if this will help you gather your observations.

1) Notice how many times you hear/read the word “cancer” throughout your day or week. Notice, too, what emotions the speaker or writer is using in discussing it.

2) Notice when you hear/read the word “cancer” what sensations you have in your body. Do you tense somewhere, feel hot/cold/tingly, feel nothing at all, pain?

3) Write down all the beliefs you have about cancer and death.

4) After processing #1 above, when you hear/read the word cancer, do some kind of mental aikido with it.

a. You can simply say silently in your mind “delete” immediately after you hear/read the word “cancer.” This works in your brain similarly to deleting a computer file or program. You simply command your brain to delete the word.

b. You can do something silly in your mind to the word. Fran Drescher, an actress and cancer survivor did so in her book title, Cancer Schmancer, about her diagnosis and recovery.

c. Do something creative with the word to beautify it, through dance, poetry, painting, writing, transforming the word into something that is life-giving rather than life-threatening.

d. If someone says something like “You’d better be careful, that (whatever you’re doing) can give you cancer” hear the word “No!” strongly pronounced in your mind either silently or out loud as appropriate. Then strongly pronounce something like “Love” or “Joy” and allow your body to feel that feeling of Love or Joy throughout all your cells.

e. If you know EFT (emotional freedom technique) or can find a healer or therapist who does, use this amazingly effective technique around the word “cancer” and any thoughts or emotions you have around it. EFT is a medically tested technique shown to greatly reduce and eliminate anxiety, even PTSD and is considered “acupressure for the emotions.” It is simple, fast, and effective!

5) After processing #2 above, when you have become aware of your body’s sensations or lack thereof around the word “cancer”,

a. Have some conversations with your body/cells in the area of your sensations and see if they are afraid/angry/sad about cancer. If you notice you feel nothing in your body see if this might be because your body is actually disconnected from your awareness around cancer due to intense fear and discuss this with your body/cells.

Page 14: Healing the Cancer Consciousness  · Web viewHealing . Cancer Consciousness. Monica McDowell, MDiv. Healing Cancer Consciousness. Copyright © 2012 by Monica McDowell, MDiv. All

b. Now talk to your body/cells much like you would a frightened child: gently and with much love and tenderness. Tell them that the fear is understandable, that you can see why they fear cancer so much. Tell them that in Reality they are One with God/Source/Higher Power and nothing can change that, not even cancer. Tell them they their essence is Light energy and energy cannot be destroyed and that they are always remembered. Tell them that this Light essence that they are is invincible and indestructible. This is who they really are and their health can reflect this Wholeness to help you serve your Higher Purpose while on earth.

c. Thank your body/cells for all the good work they do on your behalf. Tell them you love them. Tell them again. Feel love and gratitude for them and send these feelings throughout your body so all your cells can feel this Love and Gratitude.

d. Visualize White-Golden Light (or any color that feels the best to you or appeals to you the most) coming into your body from all around it and filling it up with this beautiful light. See a lattice of light touching and filling every cell. Then enlarge this light to fill your body up and completely surround you in a ball of bright, strong Light. Keep feeling love and gratitude.

e. I am filled up with Divine Light/Universal Energy. I am safe. I am love. I am free. I am whole. Always.

6) After processing #3 through #5 above, now write down any new more positive beliefs you have and any new beliefs you would like to have about cancer and death. Offer these as prayers or affirmations to Source. If positive beliefs are too hard at this time choose neutral beliefs that are open-ended, such as, “I don’t know if cancer is curable but I am open to the possibility” or “I don’t know if there is life after death, but I’d like to believe there is.” Neutral (and positive) beliefs keep your energies open whereas negative beliefs close your energies down.

7) Whatever you love, whatever brings you joy or peace or allows you to share your creativity and truth—do these things—enjoying every moment of it.
