A Premier Retail Contractor

ALDI Food Market Southeast Rollout

Southeast US—When ALDI Food Market expanded into Florida in 2008, they chose Hawkins Construction, Inc. as their contractor for several of their new stores. Hawkins performed so well that ALDI is now utilizing them for construction of new stores in Texas. ALDI stores are typically 17,000 square feet, with 10,000 square feet dedicated to retail space. A grocery retailer that has grown without merger or acquisition, ALDI has gone from averaging 20 to 30 new stores per year to opening more than 100 new locations across the United States in 2008.

Sawgrass Village

Ponte Vedra, Florida—Hawkins was chosen to build the new Publix Supermarket and CVS/Health located in Sawgrass Village Shopping Center. This 50,000 SF Publix replaces a smaller store built in the 1980s. This project is part of a renovation of the entire shopping center located on Florida A1A in the heart of Ponte Vedra Beach.

Tampa, Florida—This adaptive reuse of space for a new Brazilian steakhouse features a custom designed bar, wine cellar, center sculpture, entry features and logo wall. The resulting space is a true delivery of concept, from the plan layout down to the bathroom finishes. The design captures the themes of earth, fire and water which translates into a unique dining experience. Hawkins and rojo Architecture took the project from concept to opening, assisting with everything down to the artwork.

Boizao Steakhouse

Convenience Stores

Countryside Shoppes

Clearwater, Florida—Hawkins performed the complete exterior renovation of the existing shopping center including all exterior facades with new stone, brick and EFIS systems. We re-roofed large sections of existing buildings and built a new entrances for the various retail shops.

A new tower, entrance and covered exterior dining area was built for the Grill Smith Restaurant. All existing sidewalks, storefronts, parking lot islands and landscaping were replaced.

All of this was accomplished while the shopping center was open for business.

Tamiami Crossing

Naples, Florida - Tamiami Crossing is an exciting new development located at the intersection of Tamiami Trail and Collier Boulevard in Naples, Florida. The cen-ter is anchored by a 32,000SF Stein Mart and includes a 22,000SF Marshalls, 16,949SF Michaels, 10,000SF Ulta and a 14,910SF PETSMART

East Hialeah Marketplace

Miami, Florida - Hawkins was chosen to build a Ross Department Store retail center, which will feature restaurant, retail and medical tenants. The center is located at the SW corner of 79th Street and 32nd Avenue.

Plantation Pointe

Plantation, Florida - Hawkins was chosen to construct 2 retail buildings at the old Motorola Solutions office park at 8000 W Sunrise Blvd. Now called the Plantation Pointe Office Park, the new retail buildings connect to the offices by a plaza.

The developer wanted to provide amenities for the office tenants so their employees can minimize the amount of time they have to leave the campus.

Royal Gardens Plaza

Hialeah, Florida - This new development completed in 2014 located on corner lot in high traffic area with am-ple parking and visibility. National anchors include Ross Dress For Less, Aldi Supermarket, Discovery Clothing, Dollar General, and America’s Best Contacts & Eyeglasses

CVS/Health

Gainesville, Florida—Hawkins was chosen for the construction this new two-story CVS pharmacy with a brick facade and pedestrian plaza at Southwest 13th Street and 16th Avenue in Gainesville, Florida. It opened a year after demolition began on the previous buildings on that corner. The driveway to the strip mall to the east was closed and a shared driveway opened along 16th Avenue.

Unlike the typical CVS design, the new store includes second-floor office space and a brick facade, similar to the store that Hawkins completed at 1515 NW 13th St. This CVS has a lot of window space, a landscaped pedestrian plaza with a shade structure and benches, wrought-iron fencing and brick retaining walls to meet city design standards for that area.

Spaces

WINNER Gainesville, Florida—The building is a two-story brick and stucco structure that trans-forms a corner site that was formerly occupied by a service station and restaurants. CVS/pharmacy occupies the first floor and mezzanine level, designating office space for the second floor. The store has dual entries from the street corner and interior parking area. The second floor is accessible from a separate vestibule off the parking lot and secondary entrance from street side. The structure is situated close to Northwest 13th Street, and has a tree landscaped pedestrian path. The structure is considered “street-scaped” and utilizes window art from a local art competition.

The 16 panels of art located in the ground floor windows were designed around the theme of “Helping Our Community.” The concept stems from various aspects of CVS customers physically and metaphorically exchanging ideas about personal and commu-nity needs. In other words, as the store becomes an important part of the surrounding neighborhood, the store’s identity is shaped by those who use it. Although the store provides pharmaceutical and other essential personal items, it also has an important visual presence in the community. The project was coordinated with CVS, the City of Gainesville’s Planning Division and Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs, and Art in Public Places Trust.

Gulf to Bay Plaza

Clearwater, Florida—Located at the intersection of Gulf to Bay Boulevard and Belcher Road in Clearwater, Gulf to Bay Plaza was a two phase redevelopment project. It houses the latest Publix prototype store (53,865 SF), an Office Depot (19,131 SF), and 14,000 SF of local retail shops.

The project was planned in phases, allowing an existing Publix store to remain open while its replacement was being constructed, permitting uninterrupted sales. The Florida architecture comes alive in the sun with the selection of vibrant colors, varying textures, and the articulation of masses. .

First Street Village

Ft. Myers, Florida—First Street Village, anchored by Publix Supermarket, is located in Fort Myers at the intersection of McGregor Blvd. and Altamont Ave. in the heart of the downtown redevelopment district.

Shops at Stoneybrook Hills

Mount Dora, Florida—Hawkins has completed the Shops at Stoneybrook Hills which includes a 45,600 SF Publix Su-permarket and 21,000 SF of additional retail space. The center is located on US 441 between Eustis and Mount Dora, an area that has seen a retail boom recently.

Britton Plaza

Tampa, Florida - Hawkins Construction was selected to demolish the 60,000 square-foot Britton Plaza store earlier this year and build a new 55,000 square-foot one in its place. Even with the downsizing, the store is among Publix’s largest.

With signage and walls painted in a subdued palette of green, taupe and burgundy, the perimeter of the store - produce, bakery, deli, wine, meat and dairy departments - has an upscale feel. That was intentional as Publix has been adding more organic options and specialty foods to remain competitive. The new store opened in December 2015.

Goodwill Superstore

Spring Hill, Florida—Goodwill Industries-Suncoast chose Hawkins Construction, Inc. to build this new high-profile su-perstore in Spring Hill. This store will serve as a vocational assessment site for people with disabilities. In addition, the superstore will be the Hernando County headquarters for Goodwill’s BookWorks literacy program for disadvantaged children.

The unusual architecture of the Spring Hill store is Goodwill’s signature design for its superstores, identical to the agen-cy’s Brandon, Lakeland and Ocala superstores.

Goodwill secured the expertise of The Sembler Company, St. Petersburg, to manage the development of their signature superstores.

Publix Greenwise Market

Tampa, Florida—Publix debuts its first Tampa Bay-area Greenwise market at W. Azeele Street in the SoHo/Hyde Park historic district.

The 120,000 SF, 4-story project encompasses an entire block and houses a 40,000 SF GreenWise store on the ground level, an administrative level on a Mezzanine and a 2-level parking garage above the store. Circulation between the floors is accomplished via a series of elevators, escalators and shopping cart conveyors.

The original Publix Supermarket was demolished and a new, more energy-efficient one was built with a drive-through pharmacy added. The rebuild added roughly 13,000 SF for a total of 47,000 SF and included facade improvements for the entire strip mall. The grand opening was held October 18, 2012.

Westway Shopping Center

Dothan, Alabama—Westway is a 76,740 SF community shopping center in Dothan, Alabama anchored by the city’s first Publix supermarket. The Westway site is located on Highway 84 and John Odom Road, one of the most heavily traveled thoroughfares in the city with a daily traffic count in excess 34,900. On behalf of the Town of Longboat Key I want to commend the Hawkins Construction team responsible for the suc-cessful completion of the Long-boat Key Publix—Shoppes of Bay Isles Project. In short, this was the best managed

construction project I have seen in my 40-year career. James L. Brown, Mayor

Publix at Treasure Island

Treasure Island, Florida—This new Pub-lix Super Market is this beach community's newest jewel. Unlike most grocery stores, this market will have two levels, including a 125-space parking garage as its ground floor, which means a shopper's experience will begin and end by using any of the four elevators that reach the second-floor store. Pedestrians will be able to enter the store on the shopping level.

Real estate constraints at the site resulted in the store's vertical design. Hawkins has also completed a boat dock at the store for cus-tomers arriving by boat.

Walmart

Florida and Texas—Hawkins Construction has build several Walmart Supercenters (210,000 SF average) and Walmart Neighborhood Markets (38,000 SF average) in Florida and Texas.
