Benefits of having chickens at school

The eggs they lay can be used for cooking at school and we can sell them to raise money for the school.

They make excellent pets & kids love pets!

Their dirty straw can fertilise the gardens.

They eat a lot of our food scraps.

We can learn about chickens and use them to do other learning activities.

Keeping chickens safe at school

Be nice and quiet around the chickens and treat them kindly. Chickens can get scared and get stressed.

Don’t chase the chickens.

Don’t go near them when they are laying eggs.

Don’t pick them up unless you have permission from a teacher.

Give the chickens space and don’t crowd around them.

If you see someone being mean to a chicken, tell a teacher.
