Despite all the COVID-19 restrictions that have impacted bigger schools, we still managed to have a ceremony with invited dignitaries and many family and friends in attendance. They were our first ever Year 7 students at Harvey SHS and they leave our school much loved and respected members of our school community. A big THANK YOU to the following people led by the amazing Cindy Bonner for their fantastic effort in preparing for this year’s Graduation: Anna Capogreco, Mary Mazza, Stophie, Sharon Simpson, Tina Martella, Jennifer Galati, Julie Chapman, Sharon Brookes, Kelly Servaas, Justine Pinkerton, Gavin Walker with our student band, Mel Fry, Rachel Millichamp and the Student Council. They did an amazing job organising prizes, sponsorship, the event and transforming our gym. Our school band were part of the ceremony and played a lovely musical number Opportunity by Pete Murray. We have some budding musicians amongst our students as well as some angelic voices. Thank you to Mr Gavin Walker who works regularly with the band. We look forward to hearing more from this group of students in the future. Our departing Year 12s unveiled the 2020 Leaver’s Board (see below) designed and painted by Rycka Bonsico. It is an amazing piece that will join the gallery of all our previous Leavers Boards. I would also like to acknowledge our three School Captains, Will Barron, Brylin Bonner and Ella Morgan who lead the Student Council and held positions on our School Board where they represented the student voice. I am so proud of their individual efforts and wish them every success. Thank you to the following Sponsors who contributed to this year’s Graduation. Your support of our school and our students is much appreciated. Principal’s News It is always a bittersweet time when we farewell our Year 12 students. Despite all the COVID-19 restrictions that have impacted bigger schools, we still managed to have a ceremony with invited dignitaries and many family and friends in attendance. They were our first ever Year 7 students at Harvey SHS and they leave our school much loved and respected members of our school

Seek Truth

Transition for 2020 has been a long but enjoyable experience. We have welcomed through our doors Year 4, 5 and 6 students from Yarloop and Brunswick as well as Year 5 and 6 students Harvey primary and Year 6 students from St Anne’s Catholic.

Last week, enrolled students spent two full days meeting prospective teachers for next year and being introduced into the rigours of High School MESH subjects. The poor dears were then subjected to diagnostic testing. It wasn’t all testing and teaching; students also met Mr Cavanagh and Mr Brown when they participated in some interesting team building activities. Phys Ed was also enjoyed by many but I’m not sure they liked the fitness testing.

I look forward to our final day on Monday 7 December after swimming lessons are done and dusted.

Harvey Senior High School is a culturally responsive School. We aim to build collaborative relationships between staff, Aboriginal and Non Aboriginal students,

their parents and families and communities to support student learning. Throughout the week, students participated in various activities which included workshops in bush medicine, culture, history and language. Traditional bush tukka of kangaroo stew,

damper and bush tea was enjoyed by all.

SSEP students celebrated the end of 2020 and said farewell to our Year 12s by attending a variety of excursions. Ice skating, laser tag, Ngilgi Caves, Fremantle Prison night tour were some of our adventures. Archery and high ropes at Forest Adventures rounded out the 3 days of laughs and memories.

Harvey Senior High School

lluka Visions is an exhibition that takes place at the Bunbury Regional Art Gallery, that showcases the artwork of high school students in the South West. 2020 marks the 29th year of the exhibition and we were lucky enough to have two for our Harvey Senior High School artists represented and celebrated. We would like to extend our

congratulations to Year 10, Sarah Oberthur and Year 11, Trinity Bateup on having their work selected, but also the continued creativity we have seen throughout the year. Students have had to be adaptive, and these two girls are proof that even with challenges, great art can still be made. Being accepted in the exhibition meant the girls got their artwork professionally framed and we hope that this is great motivation for our future artists. Hope to see even more celebrated next year, so get those creative ideas flowing!
