LOST and FOUND Is your child missing an item? Let your teacher know. She will make sure to have your child check the Lost and Found.
Every minute counts! If children don’t attend school regularly, they miss out on foundational reading and math skills and the good habit of attendance that will carry them into college and careers. Data has shown that children who were absent in kindergarten and first grade (missing two days of school per month) were far less likely to read proficiently at the end of third grade. Our school day does not end until 3:15.
Please do not check your student out early because he/she will miss important
information and interrupt the learning environment of the other students.
Library Letters:
Hello from the Library!
Please encourage your students to log their minutes on their monthly reading
calendar. Our February goal is goal will be 380 minutes. The calendars will be due
to the teachers on March 4th.
We need your help keeping the library books safe. We have lost many of our
library books due to leaking water bottles and other food items in the backpacks.
Please consider helping your child put their library book in a plastic bag to keep it
safe from liquids and other things that are damaging our books. Ziploc bags or
grocery bags will do a lot to help if something leaks. If you would like to purchase a
plastic book bag from the library, you can send a note with one dollar to school with
your child. We have 2 designs (Reading Ninja and Reading is our Thing with the Cat
in the Hat). These are fun, but not required. Any plastic bag will be helpful.
I’m excited to announce our Spring Book Fair is coming! This will be a 5
day fair & we will also have a 2-week Online Fair. You can shop online at
https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bf/cjharriselementaryschool .
You can also set up your student’s eWallet here if you would like
to let them shop at school. This book fair is a great opportunity to
have new books for Spring Break!
Set Up Fair: Wednesday, February 19th after school
Fair Will Be Open: February 24th - 27th – 7:30 am -
2:30 pm and
February 28th - 7:30 am – 1:00 pm.
We will also be open after Literacy Night on February 27th from
6:30 – 7 pm.
Take Down Fair: February 28th after school
The Online Fair will be February 14th - February 28th
Please look for more details to come about our Spring Book Fair on the Library
Webpage. I’ll also be sending information home in your child’s take home folder
closer to the event. I look forward to seeing you and your families at the fair!
Happy reading!

Happy Valentine’s Day CJ Harris Star Musicians!!! I am so excited for our two upcoming programs featuring our fabulous 1

graders. Our 1st grade program “How Does Your Garden Groove?” is coming up on Thursday, February 6th at 2:15pm and 6:00pm. Our 2
nd grade spring program “Go Fish” is coming up on Thursday, March 5th
at 2:15pm and 6:00pm . The 2:15 performances are for the teachers, staff and students (if parents need to attend this one due to their work schedule that is okay). The 6:00pm performances are for family and friends to attend. It is very important that students who are performing are at both performances for their grade level. *** IF YOUR CHILD IS A FIRST OR SECOND GRADER, PLEASE ENCOURAGE THEM TO PRACTICE THEIR MUSIC AT HOME. News from the Counselor:
I will continue to provide guidance lessons this month for all K-4th grade students on
how to stay safe from abuse. Lessons are tailored to each grade level with appropriate
language and discussions. Please contact me if you have any questions regarding these lessons.
February 5th is National Safer Internet Day and a great opportunity to talk to children
about the importance of being safe, responsible, and respectful online. For parent tips, visit

February 11th is National Make a Friend Day. Making friends is easier for some students
