Bhubaneswar made Third Position in World Smart City Awards 2016
As per the latest news, Bhubaneswar City made its third position in the World Smart Expo Awards 2016
held at Barcelona on Wednesday.
Bhubaneswar was selected as a finalist along with five others under the category of Innovative Global
South Award. In this award-winning competition, Nairobi the capital city of Kenya was selected as a win-
ner. In the category two cities from India notably Bhubaneswar and Chennai were the finalists.
However, these cities were selected on the basis of their cutting edge technologies for resolving urban chal-

cause still, one-third of the world's population does not have access to proper sanitation facility. Lack of
sanitation facility is very much linked to the economy. Globally, approximately $260 billion is lost each
year to the effects of poor sanitation and unsafe water on many aspects of the economy, but most signifi-
cantly on healthcare (Hutton 2012). The theme of World Toilet Day 2016 is ‘toilets and jobs’, focusing
on how sanitation, or the lack of it, can impact people’s livelihoods.
