Barry Cassell: I am from a small town 35 minutes west of Cleveland, Lagrange, Ohio, and still live there today. I have been married for 13 years to my beautiful wife, Nicole, and have 3 awesome children, Lillian (11), Vivian (8) and Dax (4). I have been involved in loyalty marketing for the building industry for 19 years, and I’m a Life Spike in the National Home Builders Association. I use to enjoy golf…NOW I enjoy coaching my kids softball, baseball and basketball teams and golf only at industry outings…so anytime you need a 4th, please let me know, I can still putt.

Stacy Cremers: I’ve worked for Builders Club North (sister company) for over a decade. Before working at BuildPerks and Builders Club North, I worked as an Advertising Manager for a large national mattress company. My husband and I have 2 daughters, Maggie (14) and Anna (12). They keep us very busy between competitive soccer, church activities, friends, etc. When not chauffeuring kids around town in my “Soccer Mom” mobile, I enjoy golfing, exercising, reading, downhill skiing, knitting, cooking and traveling. We also enjoy family time at our cabin in Northern Minnesota.

Kristin Gardas: I have worked for Builders Club North (sister company) for over 10 years. I started out assisting Members and Sponsors as a Service Rep. Currently, I run the Merchandise Incentives/Catalog Program. I was born and raised in Minnesota (A Minnesota gal… dontcha know)! I live in Big Lake with my husband and kids. We are on 3 acres of heavily wooded land and LOVE it! I love gardening, reading and taking many camping trips with my family in our 5th Wheel. Being the mom of all boys, I spend an exorbitant amount of time at football, basketball and baseball games… my favorite hobby of all! I am married and have 4 sons – ages 21, 19, 15 & 14. (Irish Twins – 2 sons in 2000) Our oldest is in the Marines currently in Virginia Beach, VA. The others are in college & high school.

Connie Burney: Prior to joining BuildPerks, I owned a boutique consulting company providing Performance and Profit-Driven solutions exclusively for the home building industry, specializing in business development, organizational marketing, & relationship-based sales strategies. Prior to opening CBC Consulting, I served for 22 years as the Vice President of Association Affairs and Operations with the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association. A native Atlantan, I am an honor graduate from Brenau Women’s College with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. My husband, Barry, a

second generation home builder, and I live in Johns Creek, Georgia with our 5 year old spunky boxer, Molly Katherine.

Lora Honer: Hello, I am Lora Honer, the Publisher/Editor for BuildPerks. I have been designing and creating marketing materials for businesses for over 13 years. I enjoy bringing new and creative ideas to life. I live in Central Minnesota, where our summers are short and winters are long (but I do love having a white Christmas). Andy White Elected President of the Home Builders Association of South CarolinaColumbia builder/developer Andy White was elected as 2016 President of the Home Builders Association of South Carolina (HBASC) at the State Convention recently held in Asheville.

White has over thirty years’ experience in the home building industry and is a past president of the Home Builders Association of Greater Columbia (now known as the Building Industry Association of Central South Carolina). White is the developer of the award-winning Saluda River Club and was inducted into the S.C. Housing Hall of Fame in 2013. He will assume the duties of President in January 2016.

In addition to his industry involvement, White has served his community in several volunteer positions. He is currently a member of the Lexington County Planning Commission.

Sumter Building Department Receives Champion of Housing AwardThe Sumter Clarendon Chapter of the Building Industry Association of Central South Carolina (BIA) honored the Sumter City-County Building Inspection Department with the Champion of Housing award at its General Membership meeting held November 12, 2015.

The Champion of Housing Award is given to a local public official who has provided outstanding service to a local Builders Association or has made a significant contribution to the homebuilding industry at the local level. In presenting the award, BIA Executive Director, Earl McLeod applauded Department Director Steve Campbell for his leadership in establishing a business friendly atmosphere which promotes and routinely demonstrates exceptional levels of Customer Service and Professionalism. Housing Forecasters Come Out to PlayTis the season when hope springs anew, and not just because of the holidays. 2016 housing forecasts are out, too, and the general consensus—as always—is that the U.S. market will improve.Bill McBride at Calculated Risk recently published five of the latest forecasts for 2016, and they won’t hurt anyone’s feelings. As of October, annualized starts were 1,060,000. The average of the five calls for 1,289,200 starts next year, a 22% YoY increase.It probably doesn’t take an economist to conclude that the market will improve next year. Everything else is getting better, so why not housing, too? The real question is how much. McBride helps out by providing links to the forecasts published at this time of year in 2014, 2013, and 2012.One conclusion you can draw is that economists are optimists. Four of the five forecasts for 2016 peg total housing starts between 1.22 and 1.29 million. The outlier, UCLA’s Ziman Center, thinks we’l see 1.42 million.McBride doesn’t believe it, just like he didn’t believe it a year ago when Moody’s Mark Zandi said “single-family starts could be closing in on 1 million units by the end of 2015.” Not likely; we’re currently tracking 722,000. In fact, economists’ forecasts for single-family home construction have been too high every year since the recovery began. At the same time, multifamily forecasts were too low every year except 2012 (for 2013 activity).It’s safe to conclude that everyone is eager to see first-time home buyers get into the game, and they will—someday. But there is an old joke among economists that isn’t really a joke: “Give them a number or give them a date, but never give them a number and a date.”National housing forecasts may not be particularly useful for planning purposes right now. If not, it’s better to take a close look at what has already happened at the state or local level. Trends in your market may vary dramatically from national trends.Whether the recovery accelerates or stalls in 2016, the one thing we know for sure is that we’ll still be underbuilt by this time next year, too.
