Take a look at how our second Terry Home in Auburn Washington is progressing. Construction has begun and we’re looking like a real home now. It is a home for 12 more young adults who have all survived traumatic brain injuries. Four of the beds are being set aside for returning war veterans.

This is a 5,400 square foot home located in a secluded area but very accessible to transportation and retail. After several months of preloading the land, actual construction began on July 23rd and the home is scheduled to be complete in January. It’s exciting to see the progress that’s been made at the site.

Even though the majority of the funding has been received, we still need either financial or volunteer assistance in many areas. Please see the ‘wishes’ article below for additional items for the home. In addition, to these furniture items, we also need assistance with purchasing and installing landscaping, fencing, shed, mailbox and signage for both inside the home and externally.

If you can help with any of these items (financially or volunteering your time), please give us a call at 253.815.8633 or email at [email protected].

On May 20th Terry Home held its 20th annual Show and

Shine at the Auburn Eagles Parking Lot. It was again one of

those rainy days in May; however, we still had 145 vehicles

and their owners that registered and supported Terry

Home. Many other spectators were there enjoying the

fun-filled day.

Even though it was a gloomy day, our spirits were brightened by

all the support and we were still

able to raise close to $6,000 for Terry Home!

Thank you to all our friends of Terry Home!

Mark your calendars for August 17, 2013

for our 21st Annual Show and Shine at Pacific City Park. The new and improved Show and Shine will be held just east of Terry Home Pacific.

Imagine – having a car show with warm weather at a venue that can hold at least 500 vehicles. There will be new vehicle related vendors, live music and great food —oh and did we mention top notch cars? More details to come.

SHOW & SHINE @ Pacific City Park

600 3rd Ave SE, Pacific WA 98047

Join us for a fun-filled day for the whole family and as always spectators are FREE!

Come and volunteer with us as we roll out our new expanded Car Show.

Save The Date!

This is BIG NEWS! Terry Home is honored to have been selected to receive a $180,000 grant from the M. J. Murdock Charitable Trust. This Trust was created by the will of the late Melvin J. (Jack) Murdock, who was the co-founder of Tektronix, Inc. of Beaverton, OR and a resident of Vancouver, WA. Since its establishment on June 30, 1975, the trust has focused its grantmaking efforts primarily in the five states of the Pacific Northwest. The Trust’s mission is to enrich the quality of life in the PNW by providing grants to organizations that seek to strengthen the region’s educational, cultural, and spiritual base in creative and sustainable ways. Grants are also given to a wide variety of organizations, including those that serve the arts, public affairs, health and medicine, human services, and people with disabilities. This money will be used to help with start up support for resident related needs at Terry Home Auburn. Thank you to M. J. Murdock Charitable Trust for providing the financial support needed to complete our project and, hopefully, open the new home debt-free!

Auction Item Fulfilled!

At our Terry Home Auction in October, two boat rides were auctioned off. This summer the two successful bidders took advantage of their purchases. On August 18th the Schooley family enjoyed a day on Puget Sound and on

August 25th Rosalie Nopen along with her family and friends enjoyed a beautiful day.

On both days the weather, food and company was awesome. The meal was provided by Eugene and Myla Montgomery and our Captain, Leroy Kennedy, provided a smooth and entertaining ride for us all. Thank you to everyone who participated in this event. We hope we’ll see everyone at our 2014 Auction where you, too, can bid on this great item!

We couldn’t do what we do for young adult survivors of traumatic brain injury without YOU! Your generosity in time, energy and finances make it all happen. Thank You.

Mosa ic Wal l Joanne Norman and one of our favorite residents, Derek, planned out this new mosaic art wall. It was created with the assistance of many residents and friends. When we removed a window at Terry Home Pacific to install a shower on the other side, a creative solution to the space was needed. The materials were donated by CTM Granite located in Federal Way, WA. Thank you so much Lorna and Mike Chirila.

Memoria l Seren i ty Founta in This soothing fountain was donated by Joanne’s dad, Art Uhl, in memory of Marie Uhl and Shanna Cox. Painted and installed by Tim Norman, it creates a welcoming entrance to Terry Home Pacific.

Chri s tmas Giv ing And then of course we also have need of good old fashioned financial giving. As more government funding is being cut our residents have needs ranging from dental and vision to more opportunities for physical therapy and social outings.

As with setting up any new home, we have many needs for our second facility from kitchen towels to washers and dryers. To see a complete list of needs, check out our website at www.terryhomeinc.org. We may also accept gently used items. Please give Joanne a call at 253.288.0135 to evaluate whether we can accept the items.

Tax deductible donations can be sent to Terry Home: 138 Third Ave SW, Pacific WA 98047.
