GOVERNOR’S MESSAGE

Hello Brothers and Co-workers, It’s a busy summer at the Lodge! Last month was a big success with the First Annual Dan Leary

Memorial Charity Golf Tournament, Scott Lemon’s Annual Rib Feed, and the District 8 Picnic. This

month we have the Pig Roast Luau on Saturday, July 13, and “Paint your Wagon” Movie Night and

Steak Dinner on Saturday, July 20. The LOOM will again be cooking at the White Pines (formerly

GABA) Car Show on Saturday, July 20. Ebbetts Pass Moose Lodge will also hold a New Member

Orientation on Saturday, July 27 at 11 a.m. All new members that have not participated in one of

these sessions should plan to attend.

The Moose International Convention in Las Vegas was a real education for me with a ton of

information on how to make our Lodge more successful. I learned how our money is spent to

support the children at Moose Heart and seniors at Moose Haven. When you add all that we do

locally providing donations to scholarships, kids that can’t afford sports equipment, needy families,

hospice and so much more, we should really be proud of our fraternity.

I’m excited to announce that Bull Moose of the Year goes to Kurt Kraal! Kurt stepped in last year

after the passing of Bingo Bill McClure to chair the Bingo Program and has successfully led this

program for our Lodge and the community ever since. The Bingo Program is a weekly and long-

term commitment and is critical to support the funding of local Scholarships. Please join me in

congratulating and thanking Kurt for taking on this important role and earning the honor of Bull

Moose of the Year!

I’m also happy to announce that Bull Moose of the Month goes to Jack Shaffer and

Phil Melicker for repairing and painting the stairs to our front entrances. It took a while to complete

due to the damp weather, but turned out great! Thank you to Patti Corcoran for donating the funds

for this effort. Jack and Phil are also very involved in leading and supporting many of the Lodge

functions we all enjoy. Thank you, Jack and Phil for all you do. I know if often feels like thankless

work, but I really do appreciate you.

Finally, I’d like to thank the Women of the Moose for funding the painting of the dining room. It looks fantastic! The WOTM are also committed to working with the LOOM on a new committee for lodge improvement efforts. More to come on this. Be sure to look out for the new customized lodge entrance door mat also donated by Patti Corcoran! Thank you, Patti!

Please come out and support! Your Lodge needs you! Fraternally Yours, Damon Bortz, Governor 209-890-3813

Brothers and Co-workers,

Summer is in full swing here at the Lodge. We had a full schedule in June with the Dan Leary Memorial Charity Golf Tourna-

ment, The District 8 Picnic and of course Scott Lemon’s Annual Rib Feed. See the monthly Bullhorn Bulletin for July events.

Beginning July 1, 2019, The LOOM Board of Officers recommended and the membership approved the elimination of the

$10.00 incentive associated with the New Member Application fee. This incentive was put in place in 2014. The annual

LOOM dues for Ebbetts Pass Moose #1123 remains the same at $67.00 but the New Member Application Fee returns to the

original Moose International amount of $20.00, payable once on initial enrollment. This means new LOOM members will

now pay a total of $87.00 when they submit a new application. The WOTM dues remain at annual dues $32 and initial

application fee $10.

Moose International announced a brand-new App that you can download to your smartphone. It’s an electronic New

Member Application. You will never be stuck again without an application when you have an opportunity to sign-up a new

member on the spot. This new App also accepts payment by credit or debit card. There will be a link to the new App on the

Moose International website beginning on July the 8th. (www.mooseintl.org)

All proposed amendments to the General Laws were all approved by the delegates attending the Moose International

Annual Convention in Las Vegas. The Auditing Committee was renamed to the Financial Review Committee, effective Au-

gust 1, 2019. The biggest amendment was the “No Smoking” issue. Of course, this was no big deal for lodges in California as

we already have no smoking laws. But, for the lodges down South and East it was a big deal. It took a lot of talking, arguing

and two conventions to get the amendment passed. This amendment goes into effect on January 1, 2020. Please see the

Administrators Notes posted outside the Administrator’s office for more details on the highlights of the convention.

Congratulations, to our Past Senior Regents who received their Collage of Regent degree, Diane Freier and Melanie Kish.

Kris Bortz also received her Academy of Friendship award. There were no new Fellowship recipients again this year.

Finally, the Premiere Lodge Award was won by the Modesto Lodge #1608, within our own District 8. We unfortunately

missed it by a minor oversight, but we’ll do everything necessary to regain this honor next year.

Get Involved. Fraternally,

Bill Kislingbury, Administrator

Senior Regent’s Update

Hello Brothers and Co-workers,

Summer is here and we have so many fun events scheduled at the Lodge. It is time to enjoy our family and friends and take advantage of this beautiful weather.

A big thank you to those that have contributed to the No Yard/Yard sale. The donations will be used to serve the community. If you still would like to contribute please send your donation to the WOTM, PO BOX 2104, Arnold CA. Thank you.

If you’ve been in the Lodge recently you may have noticed the freshly painted dining room. New fans have been installed and new window blinds will be up soon. The WOTM donated the painting to enhance the appearance of this area for the many events we hold. To keep this room in tip top shape we are requesting that only painter’s tape be used to hang decorations, posters or anything else that is not permanent. A supply of painter’s tape will be located in the janitors closet in the hallway. You may have also noticed a big beautiful new rug at the front door welcoming you. I won’t describe it; I will let you be surprised. Thank you, Patti Corcoran, for this donation!

A few WOTM attended the Moose International Convention in Las Vegas. They say what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, but I must share this news. Congratulations to Diane Freier and Melanie Kish for earning their College of Regents Degree, and Kris Bortz for earning her Academy of Friendship Degree. Way to go ladies!

For new members or any member, if you have not been to a New Member Orientation now is your chance. It will be scheduled this month on Saturday, July 27 at 11 a.m. Lunch will also be served. Our Co-Worker of the month is Patti Corcoran. Patti chaired the Father’s Day brunch this year; over 100 meals were served. Special thanks to the WOTM Officers for being there and the many co-workers who helped the day before and the day of the event.

A couple of events that we still need volunteers for are the White Elephant Sale and the Luau. The WOTM White Elephant Sale is Chaired by Lisa Herman. Lisa needs help to set up items on Friday, August 2 at 9 a.m. The WOTM have volunteered to provide raffle prizes, desserts and decorate for the Luau on Saturday, July 13, at 10 a.m. Christy Almen is coordinating decorations, so please check in with her that morning. Any time you can spare is greatly appreciated.

In closing a quote by Theodore Roosevelt.

“Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.”

Fraternally Yours, Elaine Shaffer 2019/20 Senior Regent 209-795-7521

A Message from Chaz Armstrong:

I want to thank all who cooked meals, visited, cleaned my

house, changed my sheets, sent cards, raked my yard and

hauled it all away, helped with my walks, and doctors

appointments after I got home from my spine surgery.

I really appreciated it all. I am so blessed!

Love, Chaz

Attention Co-workers:

The Women of the Moose want to celebrate your

birthday! During your birthday month, please plan to attend

the first WOTM Chapter meeting of the month. All birthday

girls in attendance will receive a birthday present and yummy
