Reading: Students are expected to read aloud (whisper reading is fine) for at least 20 minutes, four nights a week. Research suggests that reading aloud builds comprehension and fluency. Once students are reading well above grade level, silent reading is fine. Unless you hear differently from me, please have your child read aloud. Its not necessary to have your students read to you. Please have your child fill out the reading log each week and sign it. Math: Well take a five-minute timed multiplication test each week consisting of 100 problems. Students compete against themselves, and its not for a grade until after Thanksgiving to give them time to relearn their facts. The automaticity achieved from memorizing facts will also help them in division and simplifying fractions.Spelling: A list of 10 words will be given each week. Well do activities with these words and learn how to transfer the spelling of these words to lots of other words. The spelling test will consist of about 20 words 10 from the list and 10 transfer words. AbsencesGood attendance is highly encouraged! Much of the classroom activities and assignments are hands-on and interactive and cannot be completed at home.
