S C H O O L N U R S E N E W S According to the CDC the influenza (flu) vaccine is the best way to reduce your risk
of getting sick with seasonal flu and of spreading it to others. The flu vaccine is
recommended for everyone 6 months and up, and is an annual requirement for all
DoDEA students. It takes about two weeks for your body to build up immunities to
the flu once you have been vaccinated so now is a good time to get the flu shot. Flu
activity typically peaks between December and February.
Again this year Ft Bragg Schools have partnered with Womack Army Medical
Center to provide flu clinics at the following locations:
• November 1 – DSO Annex (Old Butner) (2:00pm - 5:00pm)
Corner of Bastogne and Normandy
• November 8 – Devers Elementary School (2:00pm - 5:00pm)
3355 Varsity Street
• November 15 – Shughart Elementary School (2:00pm - 5:00pm)
Linden Oaks Community School
Please submit proof of your child’s influenza vaccine no later than December 1, 2017.
Working together we can reduce the spread of flu!
Yours in good health,
Nurse Lopez

This month we will continue to focus on
making good choices as well as using
good manners in the school setting.
Also, please make sure you are aware
of our attendance policy. Remember to
always send a note if your child is
absent from school. Regular school
attendance is important because it
helps establish life-long positive traits
such as responsibility and respect for
rules.

Hampton Pride,
Hampton Pride.
She was Captain in
the U.S. Army fight.
And we’ll celebrate,
and honor,
her bravery, too.
We will rise,
we will rise.
Show our strength
beyond our size.
Oh Hampton,
we love you, we do.

We are off to a wonderful and fun filled year here at HPS. Please come out and visit your student during
the developmental process of learning basic skills, which will last a lifetime.
Parents, make sure that your child is properly dressed for activity on their scheduled Physical Education
Class day. Sneakers/tennis shoes are a must for the safety of your child.
Yours in Fitness,
B. McMillan
The first graders are mixing red, yellow, and
blue to make the colors of the color wheel.
Next, they will be using the idea of mixing
paints to make a Kandinsky inspired paint-
ing.
The Kindergarteners are trying to disguise a
turkey so it will be safe for Thanksgiving.
They will be using all kinds of scrap materi-
als to make this turkey.

Hampton’s Fall Robotics Club is off to a great start this
year. Over the last several weeks students have ex-
plored what it is like to become an engineer by build-
ing, programing, and testing their own LEGO WEDO
Robots.
In the weeks to come students will continue to explore
engineering by using blueprints to build a replica of
GoldieBlox’s Parade Float which
was featured in the Macy’s
Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Bienvenidos al programa de Espaňol!
(Welcome to DoDEA Elementary Spanish Program)
Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15,
by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of Hispanic and Latin-Americans. During these
past weeks we have been focusing our Spanish class on the Hispanic groups’ heritage and culture.
The students have been singing and dancing some traditional and popular songs from the target cul-
ture. They identified in a world map the 21 Spanish speaking countries , their flags and capitals. The
students learned about traditions, holidays and products of the Hispanic and Latino communities.
They learned about Christopher Columbus’ discovery of the New World and how it impacted the ex-
change of customs and traditions among different cultures.

Have you ever considered getting a magazine sub-
scription for your child? Many children prefer reading
magazines and there are many good ones on the mar-
ket today. Here at Hampton, we have subscriptions to
several magazines that are perfect for young readers –
Click, Disney Junior, Disney Princess, High Five, Lady-
bug, National Geographic for Kids, Ranger Rick Jr.,
Sports Illustrated for Kids, and Zootles. If you are in-
terested, stop by the library and take a look at the
magazines we receive. Also, I can provide you with the
information to order a subscription for your child.
Most subscriptions cost less than $30 and they will
bring a brand new issue of the magazine each month
to your house. It is almost like getting 12 new books
in the mail – it is a gift that keeps giving all year long!
(Psst – Think holiday gift ideas!)
Happy Reading!!!
