HBT - Strip • non-swaying location of interior bars
• precise keeping of required lap and anchoring lengths
• especially suitable for loop connections and corbel connections
• easy removal of the strip after removal of shuttering
• no hindrances at rebending
• available on request for types 6, 7, 8, 9 of HBT double bar rebend connectors
Prefabricated construction needs special requirements concerning dimensionalstability and accurate building execution. The HBT - Strip offers optimum precon-ditions:
The polystyrene strip has to be removed after rebending the connecting rebars.
HBT Strip - special version with polystyrene strip:the perfect connection for precast concrete elements
Order example HBT - 120 - 10/15 -Type 5 - 1250:
Material of starter barsTechnical specifications:•
Sufficiant space to give easy access for rebending tools.
Halfen HBT is a reinforcement continuity system designed to provide simple andeconomic connections in concrete structures. The system consists of pre-bent rein-forcement bars housed in a pre-galvanised steel casing and cover.HBT rebend connections are the result of many years of development, takingbuilding site requirements into account:
HALFEN Rebend connection HBT meets the requirements in the DBV-codeof practice “ (2003), and in DIN 1045-1.Building authority approval is not necessary for the HBT-System.
Rebending”
Casing can easily be nailed to the formwork.
U - shaped cover made from pre-galvanised steel sheet withspecial flanges and preformed hole to facilitate the removalof the covering from HBT casing profile.
The casing has short side returns to keep the steel well back and provideconcrete cover (see “c” in drawing below).
Steel casing - profile with profiled back providing a key with the adjacentconcrete and resistance to shear loads.
*) The necessary concrete covering “c” must be observed for all steel parts remaining in the constructionjoint areas.

No piercing of formwork, no bending orrebending of reinforcement.
The socket bar is simply nailed onto theformwork. A protective cap preventspenetration of fresh concrete.
All bars can be connected in one crosssection level. A
The socket bar and the connection barare both made from the same material. No connection of parts and materialswith different properties and strengths
Steel constructions can be screwed ontothe socket bar, using bolts with standardmetric thread (DIN 13).
In the thread area the screw connectionhas the same bearing capacity as the baritself.
nchoring and lap length(lü) has to conform with nationalstandard.

Socket bars with threaded sockets at both ends of the bars. Standard version withnailing flange; Standard thread dimensions see page 14.
Notes:Dimensional tolerances: allow for tolerance due to uneven surface of the ribbedsteel: this is particularly important in types HBS-D, -DU, -DG for dimensions L, L ,L , x , x and c. It may be necessary to have a batten or HR-foam strips on theformwork .Due to range of dimensions, double socket bars are not kept in stock. Where ordersare required at short notice, short socket bar pieces can be welded together byHALFEN-DEHA.

HBS Combi-bars are reinforcement bars with a threaded socket on one end and aconnection thread on the other end. They are most commonly used in bar exten-sions if, for example the work is to be carried out without the use of lap length “lu”or where there is not enough room for bar lapping because the reinforcement is verycongested (e.g. in heavily reinforced columns).

HBS-socket bars and HBS-connection bars both have the manufacturer´s code
"H".
Screw in connection bar to entire length of thread, hand tight. If necessary, use
screw pliers.
Use the torque wrench (Order-No. 0063.030-00001) to tighten the
connection bars to the required torque. Set the torque wrench to the HBS
bar-diameter and check the scale.
HBS 140
Remove thread protection cap from cast-in socket bar. The thread of the socket bar
must be clean and rust-free. Any dirt or cement residue should be cleaned off.
Remove the thread protection cap from the HBS connection bar.
Do not remove the thread protection cap until . Especially
where there are long periods between removing the formwork and installing the
HBS connection bars (e.g. precast concrete components), take special care that the
thread protection caps are kept in place.
just before installation
Remove the thread protection cap from the HBS connection bar. The thread of the
socket bar must be clean and rust-free. (see above)
Checking HBS 140the torque wrench : to comply with building authority
approval Z.-1.5-103 torque wrenches must be checked every 6 months.
Checking and any necessary adjustment can, if required, be carried out at short
notice at the HALFEN-DEHA factory in Langenfeld/Germany for a small fee.

The task: supported slabs without enlarged column heads
The load concentration around the column head generallyleads to high shear stresses which require additional reinfor-cement to prevent punching failure.
Additional benefits:
HALFEN HDB shear reinforcement consists of double headanchor (BSt 500S) with swatched ends. Spacer bars, which arewelded on the anchor heads, connect the single stud headbars to punching shear elements.
Previously, this reinforcement has been provided by using ex-pensive design such as thick slabs or downstand beams. Thishas resulted in the need for increased storey heights to acco-modate services.
Punching failure atcolumn head
Flat slab with HALFENshear reinforcement HDBin column head zone.
Not economical:additional floorthickness around thecolumn or over thewhole slab area.
The problem: load distribution around column head
The solution: HALFEN shear reinforcement type HDB
Flat concrete slabs without beams and without enlarged column heads are economicto construct and provide optimum use of space as they do not obstruct mechanicalservices.
One important advantage of HALFEN shear reinforcementHDB is the virtually slip-free connection.Tests show that for conventional flat slab shear reinforce-ment (bent bars, cranked bars) the permissible load is limit-ed, because the lack of rigidity induces slip, which allows thereinforcement to be displaced. Thus a further increase of theshear resistance is impossible and cracks occure around thecolumn, which finally lead to failure. The excellent anchoring properties of the double studdedreinforcement limit the occurance of cracks. By this meansthe HDB system allows further increasing of the shear loadsin the column area.
HALFEN SHEAR REINFORCEMENT HDBSystem description
low cost formwork, pipes, ducts and other services under the slab are easy to install and easy to main-tain,in many cases it is possible to reduce storey heights.

HDB
The main advantages
HDB - Standard elements:2 stud element3stud element
• The insertion of the HDB-N assembly is the last operationafter laying the lower and upper reinforcement.
• Any adjustments to the positioning can be made withoutdifficulty at this late stage.
• Top spacer bars are galvanised, ensuring preliminary cor-rosion protection. They also allow easy recognition wheninstalled (making work easier for site managers and super-vision engineers)
• T
• HDB shear reinforcmenet is manufactured as standard ele-ments with 2 or 3 studded bars.
he available clip bars can be easiliy fixed to the reinfor-cement.
• Structurally ideal and virtually slip-free force distributiondue to double studded reinforcement.
• No penetration of shear head assembly into columnsection.
• No load-bearing welds.
The insertion of the HDB elements(2- or 3-stud) is the final operationafter the top and bottom steel. Please observe the information onthe following pages.

The galvanised space bars ofthe HDB elements ensureeasy identification.
Easy to install HDB assem-blies - inserted from thetop through the reinforcingcage and located on theupper reinforcement withbinding wire.
HDB-Elements can also beinstalled from the bottom. Inwhich case, the elements areplaced on spacers to ensurethe required concrete cover.
The HDB double studdedbar elements are installed atthe level of the bending rein-forcement to give optimumcombined action.
Galvanised clip bar:can be fixed at any positionon the space bar.

Note:The arrangement of site cut elements must be checked using thecalculation programme. To be checked in accordance with officialapprov. certificate:
- max spacing of reinforcement bars: 30 cm;- min./max. distance of reinforcement from edge ormovement joint: 5 cm/15 cm.
If you use filler pieces the calculation programme reduces the loadcapacity automatically.
