Habits of successful college students

By and large, college students usually attend college seemingly for the

same goal, but they differ when it comes to the outcome in that only a few can

attain better results, while the majority fails. As I see it, these different

achievements can be explained by the fact that the successful students always

possess some characteristics and assets that make them distinguished. Based

on my own experience and on the video published on youtube about habits of

successful college students, I see that successful students do act in a

professional way. The key concern of this essay is to explain how these

successful students act professionally.

To begin with, successful students keep in mind that doing homework

assignment on a regular basis deems one of their aspects partly because it

gives an image to the instructor that these students are interested and eager to

work and partly because it helps learners foster and consolidate the ideas

covered in the class. Based on this belief, they try to turn their homework on

time. Additionally, such learners always come to class on time with a

beforehand preparation and are all the time equipped with the school

materials: books, pens, papers, syllabus …etc. Moreover, they do their best to

abide by the school rules (like being on time, apologizing if necessary, giving a

hand if asked…etc) and should not be afraid of asking queries when they see it

is crucial.

In accordance with the above, successful learners are all the time

endowed with a strong motivation to learn and deepen their knowledge and

improve performance and competences. Thus, they are ready to exploit the

most possible learning styles they possess with the intention of snatching

better grades. What is striking about successful students is that they are

emotionally able to accept lower scores, but also ready to learn from them and

seek to improve in the coming tests. When it comes to absenteeism, successful

students are bitterly critical of being absent for no reason unless it is an

emergency. When they are absent, they DO apologize for that, they send email

to the instructor and insist on one of the mates to recap on the main ideas

tackled in the class and copy the course they miss.

Ultimately, successful students favor to work collaboratively with their

classmates with a view to enhancing the understanding of the lesson and for

this belief, they are never selfish. Within the team work, they attempt to learn

and, in the meantime, instill good values including respect, the concept of time

management through being on time, take their job seriously. This does not

mean that these students are complete philanthropists; they take care of their

OWN private lives emotionally and physically. Finally, successful students

believe that the teacher is no longer the only source of knowledge and they

exploit available resources for more information accordingly. To sample this,

they use the Internet wisely to meet their needs and interests and they are

resourceful when something is out of their reach or cannot financially afford it.

Not to make much of it, the conclusion that we can draw from the

aforementioned ideas is that successful college students are endowed with

some of assets like being serious, courageous, motivated, respectful,

emotionally strong and sensible, which explain their triumphs at college and

justify their successful outcomes.
