GENERAL COMPETITION RULES

1. ENTRIES CLOSE: Friday 03 APRIL 2020 .

PLEASE NOTE: Late entries may not be accepted.

2. In Own Choice items, a copy of the Competitor’s selection for the use of the

Adjudicator must be emailed to the Secretary [email protected]

No later than Friday 17 JULY 2020

3. No complimentary tickets will be given. Competitors in individual, duet or

trio items must purchase a Ticket. Competitors in Group Items (5 or more)

will be admitted free for that item only.

4. Venues within the Civic Centre cannot be used for any rehearsals once the

Eisteddfod commences.

5. Regardless of the art form, competitors may appear only once in any one

item.

6. Entry fees are not refundable.

7. Where an age limit is stated, competitors must be that age as at 1st January, 2020.

8. The pitch of the piano is C522.

9. Acceptance of an entry by the Committee is conditional upon the

competitor/guardian agreeing to the publishing of the competitor’s name in the

Eisteddfod Program, and the results and/or photograph in the media.

10. No piece may be repeated within the Eisteddfod by the same competitor.

11. In the event of multiple venues being used, the conductors of Session

reserve the right to change the order of appearance of a competitor in any

applicable item.

12. To be eligible for a bursary, Special Award or to compete in

Championship items, competitors must have competed in at least 3 solo

items in that particular art form.

13. Content and presentation of own choice material must be suitable to be performed

at a Junior Eisteddfod. The use of offensive language is strictly prohibited.

14. The Adjudicator’s decision is final. Adjudicators have the power to withhold or

divide prizes. The ringing of a bell, by the adjudicator, before the completion of an

item simply means that the Adjudicator has heard sufficient to form an opinion.

15. Time limits for each item must be observed. An item may be shorter than the

limit, but not exceed it.

16. Intending competitors who have been pupils of an Adjudicator within the last

twelve (12) months will be ineligible to enter any item judged by the

Adjudicator.

17. Competitors, teachers, parents, guardians cannot communicate with the

adjudicator until the competitor has completed his/her final competition.

18. Strict rules will be applied in regard to numbers of participants in group items as

stated in the schedule.

19. Members of a group in all Art Forms must remain the same if two pieces are

required in any given item. Substitutions will not be permitted.

20. No amplification of voice in any art form is permitted the exception being Stage

Band.

21. Where piano accompaniment is required, competitors must use the piano

provided.

22. Competitors must appear at times shown in the official program.

23. RECORDING: The use of any recording devices or photographic equipment

during an Eisteddfod is strictly prohibited.

24. APPEALS: An appeal against the Adjudicator’s decision will be accepted only if

a rule has been contravened. A protest must be in writing and lodged with the

Secretary, together with a fee of $20.00, within half an hour of the adjudication of

the item.

25. No unauthorised person/s permitted to enter any performance area.

Backstage area must be vacated immediately upon delivery of props.

26. In accordance with the Rules of Hire, pianos and equipment MUST NOT BE

INTERFERED WITH BY ANY UNAUTHORISED PERSON OR

PERSONS. Faults must be reported to the office.

27. Food and beverages must not be consumed within the venues at any time.

28. Volunteers are covered under our Insurance Policy 93117067-VW.

APRA AMCOS COPYRIGHT LAWS

29. If the Competitor is not performing from memory, or where both the work and

edition are not out of copyright (Composer/lyricist/arranger ALL died before

1955 and the edition publication date was more than 25 years ago.), an original

or licensed photocopy must be used in the performance. This original can be a

borrowed original – i.e borrowed from a Library, friend or another competitor

etc. A photocopy may be handed in for the use of the Adjudicator The

Eisteddfod Committee will destroy same at the conclusion of that Session.

30. The Committee will not be responsible for any infringement of Copyright Laws.

31. The Association holds a CAL Licence No. 6661 and complies with current

APRA AMCOS licencing agreements.

PIANOFORTE SECTION RULES (In addition to General Rules)

1. Entrants in duets – own choice music to be handed in with Primo and Secondo

pages placed side by side.

2. Modern Pianoforte Style is defined as Jazz, Blues, Boogie, Rock and Roll, Latin

American, Bebop, Swing, Top 40 and Ragtime.

VOCAL SECTION RULES (In addition to General Rules)

1. Piano accompaniment to be as written, except in modern ballad and folk song items

where guitar or chordal accompaniment is allowed.

2. A Folk Song has no composer. Arrangements are permitted where folk melody and

works are authentic folk. Maximum of 4 Verses

3. Costuming permitted in musical theatre and entertaining choral items. Limited props

preferred.

4. In all Vocal Items the pieces may be sung in the published key or transposed to suit

the individual singer.

INSTRUMENTAL SECTION RULES (In addition to General Rules)

Instrumental Ensemble/Groups:-

1. Groups must provide own music stands.

2. Time Limits includes Set Up Time

3. STAGE BAND: If performing more than one piece, a vocalist may sing in ONE

selection only (Vocalist Optional). Amplification is to be supplied by the

Competitor and approved by the Committee.

SPEECH & DRAMA SECTION RULES (In addition to General Rules)

1. All competitors in Bible reading items must read from the nominated Bible

provided by the Committee – Good News Bible.

2. Costumes are permitted in Character Recital, Duologue and Nursery Rhyme

items. – Limited props preferred.

3. Verse speaking choirs – Costume Optional.

DANCE RULES (In addition to General Rules)

1. All competitors must wear tights.

2. Individual Competitors and Groups may appear only once in any one item. A

Studio may enter more than one Group in any item provided that the Group

consists of totally different competitors. No piece may be repeated within the

Eisteddfod by the same competitor/s.

3. Competitors perform in all items at their own risk

4. Competitors must forward by email their performance piece/s to

[email protected] (preferably in mp3 format)

NO LATER THAN 17th JULY, 2020.

(Files can be named in this format e.g. Session 12 Item 403 Comp 5.mp3)

This will allow the Sound Technician to catalogue the music for all

performances.

This information is available in the Program which is available for purchase at

time of entry.

5. Costumes, routines and lyrics must be age appropriate. Revealing costumes and

suggestive movements could lead to disqualification. Costume changes must

take place in the designated areas.

6. Dance Bursary and Special Awards will be presented at the completion of the

final Session for Dance
