One year gone and a new one starts and this one is going to be VERY interesting - on so many levels. Of course, I’m expecting the worst, but the happy folks around me are saying “It’s going to be okay. You gotta trust!” Easy for them to say. But it’s the same challenges in today’s readings. Mary, Joseph and the shepherds are trusting in the plan/ messages revealed to them in what they saw or heard. I’d be asking “Why should I do that? or “Huh, what do you mean by that? or Why should I go there? ‘We mere mortals are wired to be skeptical and ask a lot of “why” questions. Today’s Psalm says God spoke to our ancestors through prophets, but now with the birth of Jesus, God speaks to us “through the Son”. The question is: Do we listen and trust that God is speaking to us? Life sure gets simpler when we do. Now, on to another topic – our Saint Joan of Arc Catholic Community. We continue to be a growing parish because of our many ministries that welcome and serve many, including the hurt, lonely, disenfranchised and suffering. In 2017, we will continue to focus on how we can keep serving by sharing our time, treasure and talent with one another and with those who reach out to us for support or enrichment. At the same time, we have to be aware that it takes space to serve and welcome the commu- nity and the ministries that call SJA our spiritual home. It is for that reason we are embarking on a Capital Campaign to raise $2,998,200 to do some very long overdue restoration work in our Church, add a welcoming center and update our Egan Room kitchen area. We will be asking every member of our SJA community to help us raise the funding for these projects. It will be your decision to make a campaign commitment and how much to commit. We will be inviting you to support the improvement of our facilities for today’s SJA community and for those who follow us. As a community we are committed to be welcoming, and I suspect we each felt that spirit when we first attended SJA. It is now falls to each of us to keep up the welcoming as well as the physical facilities strong for the generations to come. We have started reaching out to some parishioners to help “jump start” our capital campaign. In January we will broaden the invitation to parishioners involved in our 90+ ministries. Then in February, we will open the invitation to all SJA members and friends. I hope you will start thinking about how you can respond with a generous financial commit- ment, based on your blessings and capacity. I am very excited about the possibilities for our campaign and hope that you are too. Stay tuned, for good things are happening in our midst that will help to enrich the future of our SJA community. Happy New Year! One year gone and a new one starts and this one is going to be VERY interesting - on so many levels. Of course, I’m expecting the worst, but the happy folks around me are saying “It’s going to be okay. You gotta trust!” Easy for them to say. But it’s the same challenges in today’s readings. Mary, Joseph and the shepherds are trusting in the plan/messages revealed to them in what they saw or heard.

At the same time, we have to be aware that it takes space to serve and welcome the commu-nity and the ministries that call SJA our spiritual home.

I hope you will start thinking about how you can respond with a generous financial commit-ment, based on your blessings and capacity. I am very excited about the possibilities for our campaign and hope that you are too. Stay tuned, for good things are happening in our midst that will help to enrich the future of our SJA community.

Welcome Center and Church Restoration: You can now see a video on our Web site (www.stjoan.com) featuring the pro-posed welcome center and the planned restoration work in the Church. You will also find some frequently asked and answered questions about our capital campaign. Our thanks to parishion-ers Jeff and Rita Nohner for their outstanding work in producing the video. Wedding Policies at St. Joan of Arc: Weddings are provided as a service to members of the parish community. Because of the large number of weddings, it is not possible to provide the services of a Presider or our facilities for people who are not registered parishioners. For a wedding to take place at SJA, it is necessary that one of the engaged couple be a registered member of the parish for at least six months before a wedding date can be set. A date can only be scheduled by one of the priests after an initial interview with the engaged couple. A mini-mum of six months from the time the date is set to the wedding is necessary in order to complete requirements. In cases where there has been a previous marriage ending in divorce, it is not possible to set the wedding date until notice of an annulment is in hand. FFI call Mary Ann at the Parish Center.

Recycle: Please use the labeled receptacles for compost, paper, glass, plastic, cans, waste and cups. By doing so we will be ecologically responsible and a big help to our maintenance staff as well. Thank you.

Where Does My Coffee Cup Go? We strive to be a zero-waste campus and your help is needed making sure that coffee cups are disposed of properly on Sunday mornings. Here's the info you need: 1. All hot cups brought in from outside SJA are TRASH (not recyclable), unless marked "Certified Compostable" 2. Cold plastic beverage cups and lids are RECYCLABLE. Straws are not. 3. All cups from within SJA are COMPOSTABLE - organic, made from corn. Thank you for your help!
