Dear St. Augustine Catholic School Parents,

In three weeks we will be celebrating the SAS journey of twenty-four of our precious 8th grade angels! Although I have only known this group of young people for a short amount of time, I have had the privilege getting to know them. It is in this reflection, preparing for graduation, that I would like to take the opportunity to thank you for choosing Catholic education and more importantly, St. Augustine Catholic School as your school of choice. It is a sacrifice to choose Catholic education, and your confidence in our

SAS team means so much and is not taken lightly.

Our second graders celebrated the Sacrament of Holy First Communion the last two weeks. Please join us

in the continual prayer for them as they begin this new chapter in their faith development.

During the school year, our middle school students are assigned one week to lead their class in prayer as part of Mrs. Murphy’s religion curriculum. This past week, as a school, we have been included in this process as Victoria Taylor, 8th grade requested the opportunity to add a service component to this assignment. Each day this week, we have acknowledge the seriousness of various cancers and lifted up in

prayer family and friends these cancers have effected.

Through the generosity of our community, we have raised the following:

$1,000 for the John Hopkins Pediatric Oncology Unit $686 for the Maryland Children’s Hospital Oncology Unit

I will be emailing in collaboration with our HSA, a short survey via Survey Monkey, the first week of June. The survey feedback will be anonymous and will help us in our strategic planning process. Results

from the survey will be distributed along with our Annual Report by the end of June.

By her example, our blessed Mother, challenges each of us to follow her example of humility, obedience, and service to God. It is known that her final words in scripture are, “Do whatever He (Jesus) tells you.” (John 2.5) As we continue our faith journey through the month of May, I encourage you to take a pause,

calm your spirit and listen to what He is telling you and guiding you to do for His glory.

May the remaining few weeks of school be filled with joy, laughter and learning.

Yours in Christ,

What started off as a chance meeting between Aimee Loebs-Davis and Father John in the school garden last summer came to fruition on Saturday night. Our first Annual Gala, featuring Wine and Whiskey was a wonderful success raising just over $17,000 for the school. I want to thank Susie Lynch for heading up the silent

auction, Leslie Burke for all her work on the 50/50 raffle and Aimee for her amazing food. It was a fun few months putting the Gala together, and I want to share with you some of the people who made it possible. From that first three hour meeting at Starbucks we got to work; Leslie Burke organizing all the raffle tickets, Tracy Fuhr painting wine bottles for the tables, Susie overseeing the auction items, Andrea Seurkamp who sold raffle tickets at Ascension, Paul Lare designing all our marketing material, Ann Rives consolidating all the income from the gala, Ms. Christian for working with the children to decorate the lanterns, Rhonda Crouse for hanging the little Chinese lanterns, Tracy Fuhr, Mike Lynch, Karen Munter, Sarah Bonev, Mrs. Ball and Claire, Lauren and Kate Greenhill and Mr. and Mrs. Johnson for decorating the hall and library on Saturday. Kim and Bob Totten and Gail Hall for preparing and cooking all the food alongside Aimee, Zach and Jen Ross for picking up tables from the rental company and Mike Magnuson (?) for coming in on his afternoon off work to hang the dowels from the rafters. James Muchiri who came straight from the golf course to work the event and stayed to clean up, and last but not least Laura Brocato who came to help clean up. This small group of parents pulled off an amazing evening. The music played by The Archbishop Spalding String Quartet, and the Mount St. Joe Jazz band was the perfect background for an evening of wine, whiskey, laughter and friendships new and old. My biggest thanks go to those parents and teachers who came out to the support the event, without your support we would not have raised the funds to build our MakerSpace. And so, onto next year’s Gala planning…. Watch this space, I can guarantee it will be a fun night! Just ask someone who was at this year’s event!

A must-attend presentation for every parent of a child 12-18 years old...

• Learn the warning signs • Learn how to talk to your teen about drugs• No one is immune• Learn about this critically vulnerable time in your child’s development• 60 minutes that could make a life altering difference

No parent should take for granted that their child’s experimentation with drugs or alcohol is just a right of passage.

Statistics prove that the younger a child is when they experiment with drugs and alcohol, the more likely they are to develop a substance abuse issue.

Very often, a parent will not recognize that a problem may me brewing. Addiction knows no socio-economic boundaries and everyone is vulnerable. As a parent you have an obligation to understand what your child is up against today when it comes to drug and alochol abuse.

A staggering statistic is the 80% of those living today with this disease began experimenting with drugs and/or alcohol before the age of 15. This is reason in itself to attend this session!

Our mission is to help young adults conquer the disease of drug and alcohol addiction and succeed in long-term recovery. We do this by providing financial, emotional and logistical support throughout their journey. Throughout this week we have brought in two dollars or more while dressing down in

different colors to represent some types of cancer. We have raised $1,686 and will all be

donated to the Johns Hopkins Pediatric Oncology Center. One act can go a long way if you have

faith, dedication, and determination and I want to thank Mrs. Ball, Mrs. Murphy, and my friends

for helping me with this project and making it all possible. These are the prayers we have said

throughout this week during the Cancer Awareness fundraiser! There is a prayer service included

for you to participate at home with your family! Thank you for all the donations and I’m so glad

that this fundraiser was such a success! I can’t wait to go to the John’s Hopkins Children's

Center and give them the check! God bless.

Monday: Orange for Leukemia!

Prayer- Mary, health of the sick, you brought forth into our world Jesus Christ, our

Divine Healer. In your caring goodness, intercede for all those diagnosed with leukemia,

who are truly in need of miraculous assistance. If it be God’s will, I ask this day that the

gift of healing be granted to leukemia patients. Comfort them during times of anguish,

pain, confusion and despair. Ask our gracious savior to grant them physical health, inner

peace and patience in suffering. May God’s healing graces grant them a life of

happiness, health and fulfillment here on earth, and one day the joy of eternal glory in

His loving embrace. Amen

Tuesday: Green for Lymphoma!

Prayer- Lord Jesus Christ, we call upon Your blessed name and we pray for Your

merciful heart to surround those diagnosed with lymphoma with love, strength and

courage. We ask Your hands to touch them with the power of healing. May they be

directed to the right treatment in Your blessed name as we ask You Lord to represent the

physicians, doctors and medical care aids and administer them in Your spirits. May every

cancerous cell be cast out and replaced with good one. May every spot of this deadly cell

be wiped out by Your powerful hands. Amen

Wednesday: Grey for Brain Cancer!

Prayer: God of healing mercy, in Jesus Your son You stretch out Your hand in

compassion, restoring the sinner, healing the sick and lifting those bowed down.

Embrace us now in Your loving care, particularly those diagnosed with brain cancer, for

whom this intention is offered. May the spirit of Jesus bring them all health in soul and

body, that with joy and thanksgiving we may praise You for Your goodness, through

Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Thursday: Purple for All Cancer!

Prayer: Bless, O God, all who struggle with cancer. Empower them with hope

for each and every day. Provide them with loving and tender care, laughter, and the

support of love. Grant them courage when they are afraid, comfort when they are in pain,

and your blessing when all else seems hopeless, that in their fight with illness they may

continue to praise you and glorify your name. Amen.

Prayer Service

Opening Prayer: Heavenly Father, we come to You today to ask for Your healing touch

around the world for all cancer patients. For those who are in beds, sitting in a doctor's

office, or cherishing this moment with those they love. We pray for Your ministering

angels to surround them in hope and the peace that surpasses all understanding. May

they experience Your love and Your wholeness in their life today. We ask in the name of

Jesus for renewed strength and complete restoration. Amen

Gospel Reading: “When this man heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he

went to him and asked him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of

death. So Jesus said to him, “Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe.”

The official said to him, “Sir, come down before my child dies.” Jesus said to him, “Go;

your son will live.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and went on his

way. As he was going down, his servants met him and told him that his son was

recovering. So he asked them the hour when he began to get better, and they said to him,

“Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.” The father knew that was the hour

when Jesus had said to him, “Your son will live.” And he himself

believed, and all his household.” ~John 4:47-53

Jesus was able to heal bodies, diseases and even bring people back from the dead. The Lord

had power over the physical universe. All that the Lord did in the physical realm was to

help us learn who He was in the spiritual realm. Every one of his miracles had a physical

result, but they can be used to teach us about God in Heaven who wants to have a

relationship with us. Through Jesus Christ, God revealed Himself to us. We can put our

faith and trust in the power of the Lord for our eternal lives as well as our temporal ones.

Intentions: For all of those who are battling cancer and any other sickness that they will find

God’s healing and grace in their life. We pray to the Lord.

Lord Hear Our Prayer

For all doctors and medical assistants that they may receive Your guidance and

have the wisdom and skill to aid others. We pray to the Lord.

Lord Hear Our Prayer

For all of us so that we may have faith in God that he will heal us when we are

sick and that he will be with us when we need him most. We pray to the Lord.

Lord Hear Our Prayer

For all our loved ones that they will stay strong and healthy throughout the year.

We pray to the Lord.

Lord Hear Our Prayer

Closing Prayer: Heavenly Father, be with all cancer fighters. Empower them with hope

for each and every day. Surround them with love care, laughter and support. Grant them

Your healing. Amen
