Sport news

School Cross Country

Last Friday we held our annual school cross country with students competing at Wiseman’s park and

also at school for our juniors.

The day was a huge success with so many students being involved, challenging themselves and having

lots of fun.

Congratulations to all of those students who finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd in their races. A team will now be

selected to compete at the district carnival on Thursday 9th May at Kembla Joggers course in West

Dapto. Notes will be handed out next week.

A huge thank you to all those parents that attended the carnivals, it is always great to see you

supporting our students. Without your assistance we wouldn’t be able to run our sporting events.

Thank you also to those parents who gave up their time to be officials on the course and for encouraging

our runners.

School Hockey

With our last week of hockey approaching I would like to thank Caleb and Callum from the University of

Wollongong Hockey Club for their time over the past 5 weeks teaching our students the game of hockey.

Sporting Schools

Next term students in Kindergarten and Year One will be participating in a gymnastics program.

Students in Years 5 and 6 will be learning about the game of Lacrosse.

NSWPSSA Swimming

Good luck to Flynn L and Jake M who next week will be competing at the State Swimming Carnival at the

Aquatic Centre at Homebush as a part of the south coast team. Good luck from Gwynneville!!

Well done to Jake M and Matthias B who competed at the State Country Swimming Championships last

weekend. Jake placed eighth in the 100m Backstroke.

Stage 3 Activity Day

The Stage 3 Activity Day has been postponed from Friday 12th April to Friday 10th May.

News

Harmony Day

On Thursday 21st March our school celebrated Harmony Day. Students were able to wear orange or

their cultural costumes. In our classrooms we talked about cultural diversity, being inclusive and

Australia as a multicultural nation.

Some classes worked with buddies while others worked on activities within their classrooms.

At the end of the day we all came together and displayed Harmony Day messages on the walkway and

had our photos taken.

Fruit and Vegetable Week – 1st April – 5th April

This week is Fruit and Vegetable Week where we will be talking about the different fruits and vegetables

and the importance of eating them at every meal.

Research tells that primary aged students are not eating the required amounts of fruits and vegetables

each day.

A fun way of doing this is encouraging children to eat a rainbow of fruits and vegetables each and every

day. The canteen makes awesome fruit and vegetable cups each day for 50c.

The NSW Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC) is an initiative of the NSW State Government. It aims to encourage in students a love of reading for leisure and pleasure and to enable them to experience quality literature. It is not a competition but a challenge to each student- to read, to read more and to read more widely. In order to complete the challenge, students in K-2 need to experience at least 30 books, including 5 personal books of choice. Students in years 3-6 need to read at least 20 books, including 5 personal books of choice. If you would like your child to participate or would like more information please contact Mrs Ridgeway or register online at the following link.:
