Remember, if you have an opportunity, feel free to visit any of the chapter meetings or events, even if it’s not a group planned thing. We get visitation points for as few as 2 people. That’s why Sue gave you all a visitation form to keep with you. They are all listed in our newsletter.

Words from the Chapter Directors What a fantastic Spaghetti Bingo we had! We made lots of money and had lots of fun. Thanks to all of you who helped, whether it was wrapping the flatware, putting up and taking down tables and chairs, decorating, helping Ron with the food, serving that food and drink, handling the guests and their money, or calling the bingo, auctions and raffles. Oh yeah, we mentioned it at the chapter gathering, but once again we have to congratulate the Bixlers on an excellent prime rib. If we

praise it, he will make it.

For upcoming events you only have to read your emails from Rick. He’s keeping us well informed. Here’s a summary:

1. Sunday, March 2 - visit Chapter I in Waldorf. If no one else volunteers, Steve and I can lead the ride. We’ll leave from the Mountain Rd and I95 Park ‘n Ride at 7am.

2. Saturday, March 8 - Frozen Chosen Ride led by Neal. Leave the Wawa at Rt 136 and Rt 1 at 8am. Deadline to register and pay $5 was March 1.

3. Sunday, March 9 - Visit Chapter C in Glen Burnie. Leave the Mountain Rd and I95 Park ‘n Ride 7:30 am. We heard at Chapter B that there might be a parking lot exercise for folks who want to hang out until bowling.

4. Sunday, March 9, noon til 3 – Chapter A’s Bowl-a-thon. We have about 16 signed up to go or watch.

5. Wednesday, March 12 – staff meeting

6. Sunday, March 16 – our chapter gathering at the Golden Corral.

7. Saturday, March 29 – Potluck at the Bond’s Bondacious Abode. Kay says be there 3pm – call to let her know what you are bringing to eat. We still

need a leader for this ‘ride’ since they live in Purcellville VA – probably in cars since they live on a gravel road, but ride your bike if you like.

Some of you are riding 2 or 3 wheels already, so ride safe.

See you around Steve and Cathy

Couple of the Year

Our Chapter Couple of the Year for 2008 is Paul and Betty Koermer. As you know, they are the former chapter directors, and have been members of the chapter since 2000. Paul likes wood-working and does beautiful work, as evidenced by the gorgeous mirror he made for the Spaghetti Bingo raffle. Betty likes antiquing and decorating her lovely home. Here we have a couple pictures of our couple.

Well here is another month of winter and very little weather for riding, but we still have time to get together with friends and family. I wasn’t able to stay for the dinner and bingo on Feb. 16th, but I heard it was a fun time. As most of you know by now Tim was ill and in the hospital again, but he is home and doing as well as he gets for now. I won’t go into details but his blood was so thin he could have bled to death if we hadn’t caught it when we did. Thank you all for your well wishes and prayers, they were most welcome.

We are looking forward to going to breakfast at Chapter I’s meeting on March 2nd and then the following weekend will be fun filled as well as we have the Frozen Chosen and Chapter A’s Bowl-A-Thon. Tim and I will attend these if he is OK. Hope to see you all at them.

On to another note, I am still waiting for your mileage on your bike or bikes. Please email me this information at your earliest convenience.

Well that all for now, ride safe.

Dick Bond OIL – The stuff that made Jed Clampet rich enough to move to Beverly Hills and the lubricant that keeps our favorite mode of transportation purring. Lots of choices here. Does it really matter what weight, brand or type of oil we use? Yep. Motorcycle manufacturers always recommend their own brand. They may even go so far as to void the warranty if you use non-specific motorcycle oil. Motorcycle Consumer News

about 10 years ago found in a survey that approximately half of the bike owners said that they used other that the oil specified by the manufacturer. Also, about 10 or 15 years ago the automobile manufacturers got together with the oil producers and quietly changed the viscosity of automobile oil in order to improve gas mileage. The new rating dropped about one grade. The label still said 30W but the viscosity was now closer to the old 20W. This helped the auto manufacturers meet the new federal fuel mileage requirements. Another thing to watch out for if you use automotive oil is the “SJ” or “SL” oils. These are the lighter weight oil. 10W30 or lighter which are now formulated to be “energy conserving”. These oils have additives that may cause clutch slipping and other problems. They are also short on additives that bike engines need like phosphorous. These oil will have a “Starburst” on

the container and will say “energy conserving”. The above data is from Don Buntin, Colorado Chapter A. Of course the real key to long engine and transmission life is to change the oil frequently. A good example is the truck that I am currently driving every day. I change the oil and filter every 3,000 miles and I don’t have to add any oil between oil changes. My last oil change was at 297,000 miles.

Hello Chapter H, WOW, what a fabulous gathering we had in January. There were so many friendly smiling faces and so early in the morning. And many that we hadn’t seen for some time. A great big “welcome back” to those who had been away, and have now returned to the fold. You were missed and we are happy to have you back! And now thankfully (for my part at least) February has passed us by. We are another 30 days closer to full time balmy weather and the time to embrace the many

opportunities we have scheduled to do what we signed up to do, “RIDE”! Even though February did not provide us opportunities, in general for most of us, to ride (save one or two brave hearts) we did accomplish much in Chapter H. The “Bixler” Pot Luck was quite successful again this year providing many happy over stuffed tummies. Our own annual fund raiser “Spaghetti Bingo” was fabulous as usual and brought many friends from Chapters around the state and the region. We enjoyed another fine showing at our own February gathering, considering, it being the morning after our fund raiser. No rest for the weary for the following day we had 8 turn out for our visitation to Seat Pleasant and MD Chapter-B. Thanks to everyone who turned out for these events and particularly those who worked so hard for so long to make them the success that they were. Well done, Chapter H…. It’s exciting to look into March and beyond. On the March calendar is a visitation to Waldorf, MD – I on March 2. Our season opener, the “Frozen Chosen” Ride on Saturday, March 8. Following on Sunday, March 9 is the MD Chapter-A “Bowl-A-Thon” in Glen Burnie. Our own Chapter H gathering takes place on the 16th and the “Bonds” Pot Luck at their “Bondacious Estate” on the 29th in Virginia. So much to do and we haven’t gotten started yet! April is showing much promise as well. As you browse this month’s newsletter please check out these events and others that we have committed too as listed on the “Annual Ride Sheet”. Also, check out the “Members Destination

Page 4: G.W.R.R.A. Region “B” /The Northeast Region Maryland …gwrra-mdh.com/documents/marchuse.pdfKillington Road in Killington, Vermont. ( 800-368-4311 ) The Mendon Lodge location is

Request Sheet”. Contact one of your ride coordinators, Shane [email protected] or Rick [email protected] and cast your vote for which destination you would like to travel to. These are destinations suggested by you, the members. All destinations will be considered, however those receiving the most interest will receive the most consideration. So, check it out, and let us know where you would like to go. And, let us have your destination idea as well. You never know; your idea just might generate a group interest. And, all the better if YOU would like to take us there! Keep in mind our Chapter H Ride to the North East Region Rally in Rutland, Vermont on July 17, 18, 19 and 20. Chapter-H accommodations are at the beautiful Mendon Lodge on Killington Road in Killington, Vermont. ( 800-368-4311 www.mendonmountainview.com ) The Mendon Lodge location is just about 10 miles away into the Vermont Mountains from the actual Rutland rally sight. Registration information for the “rally” is available at our gathering or on the NE Region Web sight. Also be aware that only the first “500” registrants will be permitted to attend the included Rally Dinner. If you register too late, you pay for the dinner, but you won’t get it. Get it! Just a side note to this event: some members are planning on leaving as early as the 12th for northeast touring while others the 15th or the 16th for a slow “Sunday” driver ride north! Much beautiful and wonderful riding not be missed!!! And one more note, please don’t forget to jot down your mileage NOW and pass it on to Sue Miller

at [email protected] so she can track our mileage for the district awards. Riding with or without us – Ride Often – Ride Long and Ride Safe! Rick Brown GWRRA MD Chapter H Asst. Ride Coordinator

Starting this month, we have a new sponsor in the newsletter – All Access Fitness!

They are located in Aberdeen and open 24 hours – 7 days a week. Check out the ad and their website, there are specials every month for joining.

Thank You to Chapter H, We really appreciated your thoughtfulness, sympathy and prayers during the loss of my father in January. It has been very comforting and much appreciated to read your cards, and to see the compassion and support of our friends. Sometimes it’s hard to find the right words to express what we are feeling, so I will just say “Thank you.” Shane and Judy Patishnock & family

Update from Afghanistan to Chapter H:

Our son, Chris Patishnock, wanted everyone in MD Chapter H to know how much he and his

fellow soldiers have appreciated all the care packages that have been mailed to them while they have been on their missions in Afghanistan. These care packages bring some of the comforts of “home” to them. Although everything has been enjoyed, the games and movies that were mailed over the Christmas holiday were the big hit! They truly appreciate the support that we folks in MD Chapter H have given to them in sending food, games, movies, etc.

Their tour of duty in Afghanistan is slowing coming to an end and they are all looking forward to coming back to the States. Their unit will be returning sometime within the next several months to their home base here in the States. Thanks from Chris Patishnock and fellow soldiers.
