    Guidelines for CV

    Directions for saving the CV file:

    Save the file in complete formal name. First letter of the name should be capitalized. Can Mention the specialization as in

    the example.

    Do not write the campus name and roll no. in the file name . Example- Ritesh_Sharma_SM

    Layout:

    Put your Name and the headings in bold. Be consistent in the layout.Check-

    1. Font size and type-Use Times New Roman .Name in 14 Point font, SectionHeadings in 12 point font and details in 11Point font.

    2. Headings, Spacing, Margins, columns and bullets etc. should follow acommon layout.

    3. Justification-Justify text judiciouslythe effect isnt always very attractive.Justify only left side of the page.4. Dont overuse capitalization, italics, underlining, or other emphasizing

    features.

    Don't over-crowd your CV.Punctuation

    Be consistent and conservative with your punctuation. Check for full-stop (.) at the end of all full sentences. Avoid using exclamation marks.

    Grammar

    Dont switch tenses within your CV. The duties you currently perform should be in thepresent tense(i.e., write reports), but ones you may have performed in past jobs shouldbe in the past tense(i.e., wrote reports).

    Capitalize all proper nouns. When expressing numbers, write out all numbers between one and nine (i.e., one, five,

    seven), but use numerals for all numbers 10 and above (i.e., 10, 25,108).

    If you begin a sentence with a numeral, spell out that numeral (i.e., eleven serviceawards won while employed).

    Date format shall be -Month year, example- Feb13.Spellings

    Dont use words with which you are unfamiliar without first checking them in adictionary.

    Choose your words carefully and be on the lookout for easily confused words likeaccept (to receive),except (result), affect (to bring about change), effect(result), personal

    (private), personnel (staff members), role (a character assigned or a function),roll (to revolve).

    Perform a spell check on your finished CV. Thesaurus will provide many options for words. However, every fancy word is not

    always applicable.

    General Pointers

    Use action words, verbs, adverbs, and adjectives in your descriptions. (Choose form thelist provided below)

    Be concise and clear in your descriptions. Use jargon and terms specific to the industry. Do not use abbreviations or acronyms unless you define them. If you abbreviate, do so

    consistently.

    Double-check everything. Especially dates of education, employment and your contactdetails.

    Keep your CV current and reprint if any details change. Its good to review your CVperiodically, especially before mailing it or using it for any

    specific placement process.

    Some Donts for your CV

    Avoid unnecessary details about your life. For example Fathersname, Marital Status,Gender, Nationality, Religion etc.

    Avoid mentioning any irrelevant odd jobs you may have held many years ago. Avoid pasting your photograph on your CV unless asked for. Never mention your Salary expectations in your CV. Never write lies on your CV. Do not exaggerate facts or manipulate dates. You should be able to justify and validate the information provided on your CV. Do not share any information termed confidential by any of your previous employers. Do not mention if you were let go of for poor performance or any other fault of your

    own.

    Do not oversell yourself by overstating the importance of your responsibilities or KeyLearning Areas (KLA).

    Do not provide too much information on your CV. Your CV should not be more thanone page .Keep it short, simple and precise.

    Column wise guidelines as per the given format

    Name:

    Write your complete name as per your certificates. Unless specified by a particular recruiter, parents /guardians name is not required along with your

    name.

    Address: Provide the address you want the company to correspond with you on. Preferably, permanent

    address.

    Make sure the address is correct.Mobile Number:

    Provide the most recent number. Ensure to update your CV every time your mobile number changes.

    If possible provide an alternate contact number on which you will be available.

    Email Address:

    Should be a professional E-mail Id. (Without any fancy words or slangs). Example:[email protected]/[email protected]

    Date of Birth

    Mention Date of Birth in the following format.1

    Educational Qualifications:

    Write your PGDM, CGPA as per the given format. Mention your Degrees in the table provided in the format. Mention the name of your college and university and city. Mention any specific or relevant certification received in the form of points below the table. In Computer proficiency mention any special recent language learnt or course or any other

    specific profile relevant skill.

    Avoid writing MSOffice, Excel, and Internet, Windows8etc. as the computer proficiency.Summer Internship:

    Name of the Organization, duration, Project Title and Key Learning Areas (KLAs) should bebriefly but clearly specified.

    KLAs should be specific and applicant should be able to justify them. KLAs should be brief and concise (Not more than a line each).

    Key Points:

    The Learner should be able to justify the purpose, objectives and learning from the project. Also they should be able to justify how this project benefited the organization.

    Additional Projects:

    Includes Graduation Summer Training and Live Consulting Projects. (Preferably related to theprofile applied for.)

    Professional Experience: Name of the Organization, duration, Designation and Responsibilities should be briefly but

    clearly specified.

    Responsibilities should be specific and applicant should be able to justify them. Responsibilities should be brief and concise (Not more than a line each).

    Achievements:It should include:

    Any specific award or recognition during the students professional life in case of workexperience or summer internship given by the concerned organization.

    Any specific award or recognition received during the individuals academic life. Include only renowned or extremely relevant workshops or seminars attended. Emphasis should be laid on recent achievements.

    Co-Curricular:

    It should include activities or events participated or organized during the recent academic orprofessional life.

    A brief mention of the role and duties performed (Not more than a line each). Mention the Institute and the year of participation. Each of these should highlight some sort of Soft Skill like Leadership, Team Player, Decision

    Making, Problem Solving or Effective Communication skills.

    Mention only those activities that the individual can justify and quantify.Areas of Interests (Personal Interests):

    Add only 2-3 personal interests. Each interest should be followed by one line justification for why is it your area of interest.

    PS:

    Save the finalized CV both in Word as well as pdf format. For job application or placement purposes mail only pdf format. Please update records with placement cell after your CV has been edited and

    finalized.
