Safety Guidelines
Guideline #1
Safety goggles,
supplied by your
teacher, must be
worn at all times in
the laboratory when
using any type of
caustic or corrosive
chemicals or when
heating any
substances.
Guideline #2Keep a safe distance away from hot materials.
Also make sure the item has cooled down before
it is touched.
Guideline #3When heating up
a substance
never point the
mouth of the
beaker or the
heat source at
your neighbor or
yourself.
Guideline #4
NO food, gum or
drink is allowed in
class during labs.
Guideline #5No unauthorized experiments are
to be performed.

Never
taste any
chemicals!
Guideline #7
Never smell any
substance
directly. Always
keep the
substance at a
distance and fan
the vapors
towards your
face to carefully
smell the
substance.
Guideline #8Dress properly. No loose or baggy clothing, no
dangling jewelry, and long hair must be tied back.
Guideline #9
Substances should be kept
in a container so that in
case of a spill, the chemical
is contained. Always notify
the teacher first in case of a
spill or breakage. Do not
attempt to clean-up the spill
yourself.
Guideline #10
To avoid
contamination, never
return unused
substances to it’s
original container.

Guideline #11
Never leave your
seat during a lab
unless you have
the teacher’s
permission. If you
are moving around
the room, always
walk slowly to
prevent accidents.
Guideline #12
Always listen carefully to the
safety instructions given by
the teacher. Avoid any action
that might result in accident
or injury. This includes any
action which may alarm,
disturb, or otherwise disrupt
the progress of another
student.
