• Work is a major part of our lives , isn’t?
• It’s great if we enjoy you work and ,even if we don’t, it occupies a lot of our time.
• What’s more, work is a frequent topic of conversation. In this unit , we shall be considering various topics.
• Look at these question:

Do not use your dictionary. The context and word formations should help you to work out the meaning of each one. When you have thought about the meaning of
each word, try to match it with one of the definitions given below

Note:
1. Many occupations include the word man(e.g. tradesman) but may often be adopted by women. So the word person is often used instead of man/woman.
e.g. Postman/postwoman : postperson
salesman/saleslady: salesperson
Many people do not, however, like change so they prefer to use man/woman as they have always done!
2. There are differences between American and British English in occupational terminology. For example, pharmacist and solicitor are British English. The corresponding American terms are druggist and attorney. Do not worry about these differences. Speakers of American English will generally understand the British terms and speakers of British English will usually recognise the American terms.
