On January 27th, 16 members attended our CFRW Northern Division Leadership Forum. The members who attended thoroughly enjoyed the program that was presented and the workshops that were available to learn their new positions. This month we really enjoyed hearing from Assemblyman Jim Patterson who spoke on how California was at a crossroads with the Democrats being a one-party rule, passing the unpopular gas tax, Sanctuary State law and approving a train to nowhere. We also heard from candidate Mark Meuser, who is running for Secretary of State and Greg Burk, Director of Capitol Engagement. Greg deals with family matters and family rights. He brought up the case about the southern California bakery owner who refused service to a same sex couple for a wedding cake. Our Director of Elections, Emily Humpal spoke and educated us on the Voter Choice Act. She encourages the members to help out by making phone calls at the Republican Headquarters for the different projects that they are working on. On March 1st Nina Caron and I will be attending the Presidents Day Dinner held at the Hellenic Community Center. Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones is the featured speaker. The host committee members are Senator Jim Nielsen, Senator Ted Gaines, Assemblyman Kevin Kiley, Supervisor Sue Frost, Supervisor Susan Peters, Betsy Mahan, Rob Olmstead, Melinda Avey, Matt Hedges, Marty Wilson, Duane Dichiara, David Reade and the Sacramento Valley Lincoln Club. If you would like to attend please call (916) 572-5574 or email [email protected]. Our phone committee consisting of Pammy Huston and Bev Acker are at work calling all the members that have not been able to send in their dues. Please let your friends know about our monthly meetings. I am sure they will enjoy our speakers and meeting women that have the same principals and values they have as a Republican woman. Our final budget has been completed and it will be presented at our next meeting on March 7. I want to thank our budget committee who worked with me to construct this year’s budget. A big thank you goes out to May Ruth Lynch, Margie DeRow and Nina Caron. We all put in long hours and we are satisfied with the results. Nina Caron, our 1st VP is getting prepared to put on a great Whistle Stop Event on Wednesday, May 2nd . I hope you will all plan to attend and please bring a friend. Our mission remains to recruit and elect Republican candidates, promote the principles of the Republican Party, educate the public and inform the media.

AB403 Passed! After 6 years, Assemblywoman Melendez (R-Elsinore) finally got her Legislative Whistleblower Protection Bill passed through the Senate. It only took Harvey Weinstein and the #MeToo movement to give it the urgency it deserved for so long. Assemblywoman Melendez address our members at our Advocacy Conference in 2013, stating the need for this bill way back then. AB 403, which would protect legislative members and staff from retribution if they report employee or lawmaker misconduct that violates state law or the legislative “code of conduct”. This time around it passed out of the Senate 38-0, and with two current Democrat Senators facing sexual harassment allegations, it’s no surprise. The question we must act the Democrat legislative majority, and other Californians, is why did it take so long? Please read and share this SacBee article on the passage of AB 403 HERE. We need to keep making this an issue!

Fast Gas Tax Facts Thanks to our hard-working Assembly Republican Caucus, we have quick and easy Gas Tax Facts to disseminate to other Californians! Spread the word! Facts from Sac: Gas Tax Spending Is On The Wrong Track Last year, Capitol Democrats pushed through a $52 billion gas tax increase with the promise to repair crumbling roads to get people out of gridlock. FACT: Instead of building roads, California is spending $10.5 million in gas tax money to replace existing trains in San Diego. FACT: Rather than building new traffic lanes, gas tax funds will go towards a project that REMOVES lanes from a busy street in Sacramento. Despite big promises, it took less than nine months for Sacramento to start spending gas tax money on projects that won’t fix our roads and get people out of traffic. California deserves better. Follow Assembly Republicans on social media to stay informed

Nanny State As if banning plastic bags wasn’t enough, now legislative Democrats want to ban plastic straws! AB 1884 (Calderon, D) would not only ban the use of plastic straws, but if a restaurant or wait staff give one to a customer if it’s not requested, that would be punishable by fine or imprisonment! AB 1884 is currently waiting for it’s first committee assignment. Please keep track of the Capitol Update or CFRW Social Media for Action Alerts on this bill! -Allison Olson, CFRW Advocate

California One Step Closer to Forcing Colleges to Provide Abortion Drugs on Campuses. Written by California Family Council – Printed by Karen Klinger

On January 30th the California Senate voted in favor of a bill that would require

California universities to provide abortion inducing drugs to their students on campus. If the bill becomes law, California will be the first state to force universities to provide medication abortion pills. The bill has now moved on the California Assembly. If it passes the Assembly and is signed into law by Governor Jerry Brown, all university

campuses will be required to offer abortion pills by 2020.

According to Live Action News (https://www.liveaction.org/news/california-colleges- medication-abortion/):

Currently, none of 34 colleges provide on-campus abortions—http://www.abortionprocedures.com). Instead, students are re-ferred out from campus health centers to area abortionists. A group of private donors have already been lined up to pay the over $20 million in costs for the program. California State University officials, however, are wary. “Currently our CSU health centers

offer basic health services, however, the administration of medications still requires a level of expertise that our health center staff may not have,” Toni Molle, a CSU spokeswoman said. Molle also expressed concern that the bill, if passed, would “impose severe

costs for liability insurance, safety improvements, medical training, and round-the- clock phone support for medical emergencies”.

The bill’s sponsors claim that an estimated 10 to 17 women attempt to get an abortion on a California campus

each month. Whether or not this is true, California women would be much better served, if they were given more options allowing them to keep their baby and simultaneously finish college, instead of giving them a

dangerous abortion pill. While the abortion industry and abortion giants such as Planned Parenthood would like for women to believe (https://www.liveaction.org/news/planned-parenthoods- depictions-

abortion-far- reality/) it is a harmless pill and a painless process, the truth (https://www.liveaction.org/news/the-truth- about-ru- 486/) is that women often suffered severe cramps, heavy bleeding, and nausea. There are

also long-term side effects from using RU-486. Some women have even died (http://abortionpillrisks.org/health-risks/deaths/) from hemorrhaging or infection as a result of taking the abortion drug. RU-486 is far

from the safe and easy process that abortion activists falsely claim. A Live Action video (Https://www.facebook.com/liveaction/videos/10155319044619785/) featuring former abortionist Dr. Anthony

Levatino, details what really happens during this type of abortion. At the abortion clinic or doctor’s office, the woman takes pills which contain mifepristone, also called RU 486. RU 486 blocks the action of a hormone

called progesterone. When RU 486 blocks progesterone, the lining of the mother’s uterus breaks down cutting off blood and nourishment to the baby, who then dies inside the mother’s womb. Twenty-four to forty-eight hours after taking RU 486, the woman takes misoprostol that is administered either orally or vaginally. RU

486 and misoprostol together cause severe cramping, contractions, and often heavy bleeding to force the dead baby out of the mother’s uterus. The process can be very intense and painful, and the bleeding and contrac-tions can last from a few hours to several days. While she could lose her baby anytime and anywhere during this process, the woman will often sit on a toilet as she prepares to expel the child, which she will then flush.

After considering the side effects, the fact still remains that a preborn baby is just that – a tiny human who deserves the same right to life as everyone else.

THE BILL MUST BE STOPPED Please contact your local assembly member (http://assembly.ca.gov/assemblymembers), and urge him/her to

vote against SB 320. Assembly Member, Ken Cooley (Democrat) 1-916- 319-2008

We wanted to let you know that one of our members passed away, Helen Robinson. We pray for her family and friends at this time of mourning.

In January 2018, Jenny Mitchell went on a Holland American Cruise from Fort Lauderdale to San Diego through the Panama Canal. Jenny said it was a wonderful experience. They met great

people, saw different countries, relaxed, and had many laughs.

In April, Jenny will be taking a west coast cruise from Los Angeles to Vancouver, Canada. It is a seven-day trip on the Princess Cruise Line. Jenny says cruising is a magnificent way to do whatever

you want; take land tours, choose ship activities, enjoy Broadway entertainment, and have fun with friends.

Another one of our members, Fran Kruger passed away on Sunday, February 18. She will be greatly missed by our club. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family.

We ask your blessing that we may follow the light you have given us. The light of truth; the light

of freedom revealing new opportunities for individual growth in the community and national service; the light of faith with visions of a better world; and the light of love that binds us one

to another and us to you, God.

We pray that we may be an example to future generations in cherishing the luxury of liberty as a light to all the world. May we never forget our forefathers and the great presidents who labored to maintain

those liberties with strength and commitment.

We pray as women that we may work with wisdom to create goodness with a desire to inspire other women around the world who are faced with obstacles in their lives. Guided by this light, may we go forward in the

Now bless this food, dear Father, so that we will be strengthened in all ways to better serve you. In your name. Amen
