Guthrie County Showdown The Guthrie County Showdown will be Saturday, July 20, 2019 at 10:00 am at the Guthrie County Fair Grounds

Showring. This is an optional show. Participants compete to qualify for the DMACC Beardown. The DMACC Beardown is

an invitation-only regional showcase of the talent, devotion and effort on display by area 4H & FFA members.

Contestants earn this recognition by exhibiting animals selected as supreme champion in the Breeding or Market Divisions

of the Beef, Goat, Sheep or Swine shows at their respective county fairs. No more than eight deserving young people per

county will earn the distinction of being eligible to participate and there’s no way to qualify without first being successful at

the county level.

Champions of The Beardown advance to compete in the All-Iowa Showdown against winners of similar events occurring

statewide.

You will be showing off your trailer, there will be no stalls.

Registration is $25 before the show and $35 the day of the show. Link to registration will be coming soon!

Last minute reminders: -

Dear 4-H Members,

It’s almost time to crown the 2019 4-H Royalty court! As in the

past we would like any members that are Senior 4-Hers that

would like to be considered for the 4-H King or Queen Position to

fill out a short application. This will be based on 4-H participation,

community service and leadership. Being the Guthrie County 4-H

King or Queen is a great opportunity for leadership experience

and to see more of the Guthrie County Fair!!

Since our 4-H members are busy during the fair we will also

crown a Prince and Princess from the junior and intermediate

levels. Applications will need to be filled out by those that are

interested and will also be judges to King and Queen candidates.

These members will be available to fill in when the King or Queen

is unable to help. The Clover Kids will also be included by drawing out a winner for Clover Prince and

Princess during their pet show on Thursday night!!

If you are voted as a member of the court, you will be expected to serve the Guthrie County 4-H program in

the following way:

Be a good representative of 4-H and Guthrie County

Hand out ribbons during some of the livestock shows at the fair

Represent Guthrie County 4-H in the fair parade and other possible parades within the county

Help recruit new members in the fall by talking to 4th and 5th graders within their school about the 4-H

program during National 4-H week.

Help with 4-H Awards Day in November if needed

Hand out ribbons at the 4-H Fashion Show

All candidates, members and families are invited to attend a potluck on June 2nd 2019 to crown the new court.

Applications are required to be typed. If there is not enough space, you may attach your answers on a

separate piece of paper.

Good luck to each of you!!

Allie Brooks, Gina Arnold

Applications can be found on the

website at

Iowa Youth Conference

Every June, almost 900 teenagers converge on the campus of Iowa State Uni-versity for 3 days full of speakers, workshops, mixers, dances, a banquet, and community service activities.

If you've completed 8th grade, you're eligible to attend. You don't even have to be in 4-H to attend this conference! You will get to experience campus life and meet new people from across the state! You will be having fun while learning by doing, dancing the nights away, and serving the community. You will get to learn new things to take back to your community and school, and in the process you might even discover something new about yourself! There are opportunities for you to share your talents with the rest of the delegation through small group discussion, the Conference talent Show!

If you have a specific interest in animal science, you might want to look into becoming part of the ROUND-UP track! There are also workshop tracks that span all 3 days for certain topics if you'd like to study something in more depth. Or, you can choose different workshops each day to get more variety while you're on campus.

If you'd like to be part of the team to capture the Conference in photos, join our Iowa 4-H Youth Camera Corps, and bring your camera. We're doing things a little differently this year and you'll get to learn photo skills and put them to work through the workshop series.

Please join us in June for the most incredible three days of your life at the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference!

Check here for continued updates regarding the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference. Regular registration for a fee of $180 closes on June 1 with late registration for $200 available until June 11. You can also check out financial aid applications, due May 1-June 15 to the Iowa 4-H Foundation.
