Nursery for children through 3 years of age is available during the worship service in a classroom in the entrance hallway. Our loving and dedicated staff is pleased to provide this quality service for your infants and toddlers.

Pathway Kids ages 3-4th grade are invited to a children appropriate worship program using a book called Passport to Adventure. Children will discover how everyday choices can show love and obedience to God helping them to become a part of God’s family and then to live as followers of God. The children will dismiss from the worship service just before the sermon and are available for pick up immediately following.

Welcome to all, but in particular, welcome to all guests! We encourage you to fill out the guest card on the back of this worship program and place it in the wooden box on the table in the back of the auditorium. Thank you for visiting Pathway today. “Come. See. Connect.” Today we welcome Pastor Mark Prestriedge. He has been a pastor for 40 years both in Florida and in Illinois. He pastored Crete Reformed Church for 25 years and spent eight years on staff at Living Springs Community Church in Homewood Illinois. For the last few years, he has been serving as Chaplain for Providence Life Services both at their Park Place and Village Woods campuses.

New Sermon Series Reminders Don’t forget our projects due NEXT Sunday, October 21. Pastor Joel will continue with message two of the series “Filled to the Brim: Contentment in a World of Consumption.” We are counting our shirts and shoes to see how things have a way of accumulating. Remember, this is not about guilt. But it is about self-awareness. How many pairs of shoes and how many shirts do you own? What possession did you find that you haven’t used for a few years that you gave away to “its rightful owner?” Last Sunday we discovered in Matthew 13:22 Jesus’ warning that wealth has a way of lying to us. Jeff Manion in Satisfied explains how the lie works. “We cram our lives with stuff, compound the clutter, and believe that a little more, just a little more, will finally fill the empty space. We attempt to fill an emotional-spiritual vacuum with a variety of objects, and then we become disillusioned when our effort fails to produce the lasting fullness we chased. Instead of changing tactics, we simply swap things—if a new house doesn’t do it, perhaps an extravagant vacation will. And if a resort fails to do the trick, perhaps a pricey cottage will. I am not making a case here against home or cottage ownership, and vacations can provide much- needed rest and re-create the soul. What we should be concerned about is what we believe these things will do for us. We ask them to fill a void they cannot possibly fill. Disappointed, we move on to the next thing.”

Welcome!

Welcome to Pathway Church where we are

growing God’s family by helping people take their next step with Jesus Christ.

Following the service, everyone is invited into the Atrium for a time of refreshments and conversation.

Opportunities to Serve This month our offering will be taken for the food costs for our Thanksgiving Day Meal Deliveries. We plan to deliver about 500 meals to those in need in our community. We invite you and your families to help us for about an hour following the Thanksgiving Day Worship Service. What a blessing to give a homemade meal to our neighbors! Angels of Hope Christmas Gift opportunities will be offered again at the beginning of November. Campus Life Stories Evening of Celebration will be Thursday, November 8 at Avalon Manor, 3550 E. Lincoln Highway, Merrillville, Indiana. Heavy appetizers at 6:30 pm., hearing powerful stories of life change from the students at 7:15 pm. and dessert and fellowship at 7:45 pm. RSVP to Terri, [email protected]. Campus Life is a ministry at Lake Central and Hanover High School that builds relationships and shares the love of Jesus to them. We are looking for a couple more people to help pick up the St. John Starbucks leftover food and dropping it off at the church office. Your commitment would be about once every 2 weeks and take about 10 minutes of your time. We pick up 3 times a week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Do you run errands at Aldi, Strack’s, or Target on 41 in St John? Then this would be easy for you! See Terri Schaaf!

If you have any questions on the above, please contact Terri Schaaf at [email protected].
