    PRINT ADVERTISEMENT ANALYSIS

    We decided to put a photo on the print advertisement because, although we know that a print advertisement

    on a magazine costs more than on a web one, we think that an advertisement with a photo is more persuasive

    than one without it.

    The photo shows a handclasp between two men over a small-scale model of the earth.

    We decided to put this photo with the handclasp to convey confidence and loyalty to those interested in our

    job offer; the choice of the small-scale model was made in order to convey a sense of power, in fact it can

    figuratively mean that you can control and be over the world, because our company, like said in theadvertisement, is the company leader in its sector.

    We also opted to put the advertisement not on any kind of magazines but only on the Financial Times, this

    because we want to reach just a special target of readers, which could be interested in our job offer.

    The name of the company is set on the top of our advertising space and, according to the magazine, the size

    of our advertisement is bigger than the other ones.

    The text says that our company is looking for a modernization in its financial field, and encourages workers

    who may want to get a job in the financial field to send their CV.

    WEB ADVERTISEMENT ANALYSIS

    The mood created by the advertisement is the sense of centralized position of the company in the

    marketplace, so that readers can understand leadership and communication skills required for this position

    without any disorientation or confusion coming from stress created by responsibility and unexpected

    problem to be solved.

    The advertisement is not full of graphic and written elements because the company considered that it will be

    seen not only by the candidates but also by competitors, suppliers and all specialistic and employees of the

    sector. In any case, shareholder according to workers of marketing department want to communicate the

    careful organization, the guide line of directing its work, as well as the corporate culture.

    In this way, also the candidates will understand the companys direction, already known by all the otheremployees, he/she is going to work for.

    All this tricks are used to communicate the importance that the company gives to the synergy and union

    among all its departments, even if pursuing goals in different sectors, to achieve the overall objectives: the

    quality of the product and the timeliness of the service, as the first main principle of the mission statement.In the foreground, marketers decided to present which could be the best candidate for the job: the picture

    The background tells us the general ambience in which the candidate will find his/her workplace. The

    HANDBOOK

    Preface:

    The questionnaire provided by the company is the last tool of the recruitment to assume the new finance

    manager or the ABC Widgets Ltd. The mission of this path was to ensure to the company the manager withthe right mix of competencies, skills and talent according to the person specification, discussed previously.

    The strategy is the game to reach the mission and, in this case, was the division of the recruitment in three

    parts: the advertisement to attract managers, the selection of CV through the profile guide of the person

    specification and, in the end, the final interview to select the best choice available. This handbook has been

    projected and built to help the recruiter to use the questionnaire as well as possible. To put the candidates in

    the best condition to express themselves, this handbook must be used perfectly step by step because also the

    best strategy can result a bad one without the right implementation.

    While the first step is to read carefully and follow the handbook, the second one is to create an easy and

    informal atmosphere. This is reached through some kind of different consideration such as the temperature of

    the place or the interest of the recruiter in his/her work. While temperature has to be controlled between30/40 , the most important thing is to establish a relationship to encourage the candidate to do his/her best,

    without plunging too quickly into demanding questions. So, the first ten minutes can be considered the

    approach period and the recruiter must show himself/herself interested, available and helpful. Despite of it,

    the truth is in the middle and you dont have to commit the opposite mistake: let the candidate talk to much

    about things not related to the questionnaire. Then, without digression, its normal if the candidate speaks for

    the 80% of the session. To keep control of the time, the interviewer must stop candidates who are talking

    about something far from questions argument. One of the worst mistake would be to allow to some

    candidates to steal time to others: the questionnaire has been already measured and it takes maximum of 2

    hours. So, every candidates must be inside this time and if the recruiter notices a different higher timing

    session, the problem has to be communicated as soon as possible to the human resources management

    director and the daily appointments timetable has to be consequently reset.

    Questionnaire explanation and analysis of problems:

    The questionnaire can be divided in three parts: the Start of 5%, the Middle of 80% and the End up of 15%.

    START:

    The recruiters interview starts before than the candidate one, compiling the general information. This part is

    composed by biographical information and after this previous part, the recruiter knows quite enough about

    the candidate that now can enter. If there arent any misunderstandings about the transcription of the CV or

    about general information:

    - pass to the middle phase of the interview;- else, the interviewer is obliged to ask every kind of clarification about Degree, Masters, Work

    experience, certifications but also about general info such as Name etc.

    Ensure to give the right points of the rating scale to everyone.

    Problems:

    We think that the greatest mistake that a recruiter can do is right here checking the background information,

    before the candidate is not entered. Halo effect and Horns effect are closely related to the mind of

    recruiters, but they have to remember that they are only an impartial recruitment tool, so it could be

    unpleasant and disgraceful to fall merely in some mistakes. Making wrong balance between favourable and

    unfavourable first evidences, making snap or hurried judgments could take the selection to a wrong direction

    and the company to a wrong choice. Evident strengths or weaknesses can capture the attention and stimulate

    prejudice, but in this way you could lose the best candidate (mission of the company) for inaccuracy (bad

    implementation).

    MIDDLE:

    Techniques:

    The three most important selection interviewing approaches are the biographical, the behaviour-based and

    the situational one. In this questionnaire, the first technique is not used because in the person specification of

    the Finance Manager, the profile doesnt require several years of work experience. Obviously are desirable

    but not necessary, so this approach could penalise new faces that maybe deserve attention; to the other side,

    it might benefit someone that instead requires the same consideration of all the other candidates.

    Many experts consider behavior approach the best question type. This requires candidates to describe actual

    past experience of behaviors about some skills and accomplishments that relate to the job for which they are

    being interviewed. The use of actual past behavior questions in an interview is based on the assumption that

    a persons past behaviors can predict future behaviors. Most of the question development instructions and

    examples in this resource focus on behavioral questions.

    Situational interviewing techniques focus on what candidates would do in a specific situation. This technique

    involves questions that describe a hypothetical situation based on challenging, real life, job-related

    occurrences and ask the candidates how they would handle the problem.

    Description of questions and use of it:

    An ease and informal atmosphere has been reached and candidate are expected to demonstrate specific job

    knowledge and humanistic skills. Cause you dont have enough time to cover all fields in each interview, this

    questionnaire has identified a list of task such as leadership and motivation and a list of required KSAs(knowledge, skills, abilities) such as technological and financial one. The management of budget,

    investments and opportunities are considered the most important job knowledge of the Finance Manager.

    The clear vision of companys strengths and weaknesses (internal environment) and opportunities and threats

    (external one) is only given by the right management, collection, storage, analysis of all data. Then,

    questions in group A tries to understand basic competence and knowledge but also the personal work

    organization of the candidate. In questions B, are instead analysed humanistic skills such as stress, leadership

    and reliability. Obviously job knowledge are essential for the Finance Manager, but we have to recognize

    that its a job that expose the worker to stress, ongoing challenges, high level of hours of continuous work

    and tiredness. For all this reasons knowledge and talent in financial field, must match characteristics of

    personality.

    END UP:

    The section for acquire information is finished, the recruiter has collected all the data. Theres the possibility

    to let the candidate ask some information about the job: this ending part is valued 15 points on 100 because

    the interviewer can finally understand the real seriousness and the motivation of the candidate. In fact,

    candidates questions about payment or holidays are not recommended: this would penalise the candidate for

    15 points on 100. To the other side active interest about the next step, the company and its sector are really

    appreciated and evaluated.

    Final Result:

    Passing through all the steps and the questions, the recruiter has to follow carefully the mark scheme,

    choosing the right points among a, b or c that most are addicted to the candidates answer. At the end of

    every section, theres the possibility to sum the points. The final result of every candidate would put in a

    Equality aspects:

    According with the marketers, the companys choice about the photo on the web advertisement follows theguideline of the person specification for the Finance Manager workplace of the ABC Widgets Ltd. In the

    person specification are not required particular age, religion, gender, family or marital status or sexual

    orientation. What is required is the right mix of talent and knowledge that a manager must have to lead

    his/her teamwork, make reports for his/her director and interact with the other departments. For all that

    reasons in the web advertisements photo you can say every kind of people with only the right personality.

    The recruiter is obliged to comply the corporate culture and avoid with all his/her strengths any type of direct

    and indirect discrimination.

    Critique:

    The choice for this questionnaire was to put only open questions to listen what the candidates have to say and

    allow them to express as well as possible. For this reason, questions like Yes/No were skipped and a singleinterview takes 1.5-2 hours. We can imagine how its not possible to set a timetable of more than 3

    appointments per day. In all case, it would be very difficult for the recruiter to have an active listening about

    what every candidate has to say about their experience in all the moment of his/her work. We think that this

    must be the most important obstacle to overcome in this phase of the recruitment of the finance Manager for

    the ABC Widgets Ltd. Despite of it, the company still believe that taking less appointments and listening so

    carefully all candidates, the result would be great and only in this way, they will discover as best as possible

    the candidate closer to the profile of the person specification.

    Another problem that the recruiter could match in this kind of questionnaire is the possibility to give to all

    people 6 points (answer b), both in job knowledge and humanistic questions. The company, however, trusts

    in the interviewers ability to understand where effectively the candidate deserve 10 points on 10, without

    having fear to give quite high result for some candidates.

    Our teamwork is a consolidate group of friends, grown and developed during this our Erasmus year. We all

    come from the same course of Polytechnic of Turin, but we didn't meet before in Italy.

    We come from different places in our country - Turin, Milan, Naples and Brindisi - we could notice all the

    differences and perspectives in terms of culture and lifestyle. This year and this project have been helping us

    to discuss concepts such as being in time, sharing, entertainment, concentration, obligation, commitment, and

    break during work. Without attending a humanistic, sociologist or philosophic university course, we were

    able the same to understand and overcome differences and biases we used to have and that didn't let us to be

    really united and to express all our talent. On the other side this project let us discover our ability to work all

    together to look for and find the reason and the intrinsic meaning of everything we are dealing with.

    Our fist meeting was in the canteen, it was very short because we needed few minutes to realize that was

    impossible to start our work without first reviewing our HRM notes and without really understanding what is

    the role of a financial manager in a company. Next meeting was a few days later and we spent it talking

    about our fist impression on the various points in which the project should be articulated: the first idea was to

    resume in a table the person specification, writing only key words under the three labels - element, essential,

    and desirable; after we decided to verbalize it in a text too. With the purpose to improve our efficiency wepreferred to change the way of working for the following meeting: we met in one house of ours, because we

    live all in Wellmount student village, and we assigned to each of us different parts of the project, having

    however the possibility to compare, to ask and to criticize from different point of view all the time; in fact we

    worked all the four in the same living room and we continuously asked each other questions and opinions.

    This idea has helped us to have an overall perspective of our work since almost the beginning and to let us

    analyze everything in particular step-by-step. Despite of it, the atmosphere was of completely sharing of

    ideas allowing each of us to share something from his own in every track.

    During the project we had a problem: one of us had to come back in Italy to take an exam, so for a few days

    we could not work together but we managed to overcome this little problem keeping in touch video calling

    on Skype.Finally, this project has been an opportunity for us to work, stay and enjoy together; we also learnt how to

    share ideas and how to put them together, trying to achieve a good result.

    APPENDIX 2HISTORY AND IMPORTANCE OF HMR

    Human resource management has been a concept that was utilized ever since human beings started following

    an organized way of life.

    Some of human resource management's vital principles were used in prehistoric times. Knowledge was

    recorded and passed on to the next generation about safety, health, hunting, and gathering. From 1000 B.C.

    to 2000 B.C. there was the development of more advanced HR functions. The Chinese are known to be thefirst to use employee-screening techniques, way back in 1115 B.C. HR changed a lot of names during the

    centuries and the actual name proves the importance of the human beings working in the organization.

    With the Industrial Revolution companies required a well-organized structure and needed to recruit a lot of

    people. The Industrial Revolution brought a high level of immigration and HRM followed a social welfare

    approach; in fact it aimed to help immigrant in learning English (Industrial Revolution broke out in England)

    and acquiring housing and medical care. Also, these techniques used to promote supervisory training to

    ensure an increase in productivity.

    The advent of labor unions in the 1800s made HR departments more capable of politics and diplomacy,and after several acts there was a shift in focus from worker's efficiency to efficiency through work

    satisfaction.

    By the end of 1970s HRM was in almost all big and medium industries because they needed a department to

    manage their recruitment, employee relations, record keeping, salaries and wages, etc.In fact the HR managers were the ones who did the hiring and the firing.

    Nowadays we can state that HR has the same importance as the other departments.

    Human resource management plays a very important role in managing, controlling, developing, and

    maintaining workforce, which significantly contributes to the existence and profitability of the organization.

    It is in continuous contact with the top-level management of the establishment and is responsible for

    assisting the management for running the processes efficiently. It is also responsible for attracting skilled

    workforce, and carrying out recruitment and induction procedures, training and development, and settlement

    of the employee in a particular work environment he is comfortable in.

    HR also participates in the strategy formulation process by supplying information regarding the companysinternal strengths and weaknesses.

    To be successful a company needs a highly skilled, flexible and committed work force, an innovative

    management, the ability to retain developed talent, and a strong partnership between management and labor

    unions.

    To achieve these goals, the company needs a talented HR department. HR managers have to build up

    commitment and loyalty among the workforce by keeping them up to date about company plans, and laying

    out the implications for job security and working conditions.

    PERSONAL REFLECTIONS

    Daniele Turano

    I want to start saying that I really enjoyed this group project , until the beginning of this year we did not

    know each other well, we only attended the same course, but now we are very good friends. We are all from

    Italy, but from different parts and different cities of Italy, so we have different ways of thinking; this project

    helped me, but I think I can speak also for them, in knowing and understanding their ways of thinking

    different from mine and also learning from them.

    I think that teamwork is essential in our lives, especially in studying, now, and while working, in the future

    years.

    Since I was a child I have been playing in a football team and during these years I have learnt how much

    teamwork is important.

    I find really good to know that my friends are covering my back, but moreover I find amazing to know that I

    am covering my friends back.Another important aspect of team working is that when you achieve a goal, or in terms of school, when you

    get a good mark, it is more pleasant to rejoice together; and when you do not manage to achieve your goals,

    if you are part of a group everyone suffers the same of you and this can help to stick together and keep on

    working.

    In Italy there is a saying, that surfing the internet, I think I can translate in: united we stand, divided wefall.

    Every day we have to face problems and troubles and most of the times we get over them with the help of

    our family or our friends.

    The concept of team working, in my opinion, is really fortified in our society, in fact no one wants to stayalone and that is why we are surrounded by a several number of friends or why we look for a girlfriend or a

    boyfriend.

    The concept of team working, according to a school group project, means that it is more interesting and lets

    you know more things; because in a group the set of knowledge is wider than working on your own.

    During this group project, in fact, there have been a lot of occasions in which my group mates did not know

    something and I was able to answer them and vice versa.

    In this project I took information from surfing the Internet, from the notes taken during the lessons, from a

    book of Human Resource Management and, as I said before, from the knowledge of my group mates.

    My own performance I think it was the 25% out of the finished project, in fact we divided the project in four

    parts and everyone had to do a part, then we changed and corrected each others parts, adding something newfrom everyone.

    I really like working together, but there is one thing I would have changed: I would like to have had a groupmate who was not Italian as me, to learn and know other countries culture, and to speak more in English toimprove it.

    Speaking about the group project, I can say that I liked it very much. My group has been very qualified, even

    if weve found some obstacle we have overcame that just talking. We shared a lot of ideas, good one or badone, analyzing each one of them, weve chosen the best ideas. In every meeting we dedicated like half anhour or something more looking for information online, in some books or simply on our notes, to gain more

    inspirations with the aim of doing it in the best way we could.Ive got a lot of new concepts and an idea of how can be working in group, this is useful also for my futurejob experiences which could be in a team. Now I know the difficulties that you can find in that case and how

    pass it. All of us did a good job, I could not say that someone did better than another one because we decided

    all together, I think that this has been our strong point. Everything we wanted in the project had to be

    discussed, improved and then put down in writing.

    Weve done the best we could for each point of the project without differences because I think that a projectmust be valuate in its entirety and because of this, each point has to be analyzed and showed in the best way.

    Maybe something is well done and something else is not, but sure we didnt choose our favourite parts doingthat better than the others one. I have offered all my help when it was needed and such as me, even the rest of

    the group, each one of us has different skills and knowledge, we have just mixed these and wrote down the

    project.

    You can find out so many interesting things working together than doing it alone, because different people

    (even if friends like us) has different thoughts, opinions and ideas which has to be shared in order to be

    known and thats why I like work in group.The thing I enjoyed more has been the advertisement, both of them.

    I felt like in a real marketing campaign. A good market campaign, even if made to hire someone, should

    involve the targeting of readers, in fact we put the web ad onwww.bizzplus.ieand the print ad on the

    Financial Times to find people who was very interested and to allow them to join in our company by

    focusing on their real interests which are obviously about finance, business and management having seen our

    advertisement.At the end Ive got a lot of great time doing this project because has made us closer, we spent a lot of time

    together, eating, speaking, laughing and working but always in a nice way and without stress or hurry. We

    have known each other better and not just like people but even like workers. In conclusion I can say that this

    has been the best group work/project ever. I liked it very much and as me, my friends

    Alessio PeschiulliAccording to me our group worked very well together, and even if its not my job to value the result, I amvery satisfied about the commitment and perseverance of each of us. Every member of the group respects

    each other, and everyone is very appreciative of each others work and expresses this - as well asconstructive critiques where they are due.I think our group started pretty slowly in terms of establishing

    what we all needed to do in the first week; but from when we were able to organize and run our ideas, our

    opinion, our skills and so our work we proceeded without any relevant problem.

    This was a great experience also because this project helps me to have a closer view about what I will

    probably do after my studies. First of all I have really learned now the importance of internet, that its notjust an instrument for my delight but its an infinite source of information and experience; it had a significant

    importance to get a general idea and real examples in particular to start our work, and It will be a great help

    for any future group project . What I also notice is that thanks to this project I had the opportunity to analyse

    better and focus on the role of a financial manager in a company, and now I know I really would like to do it

    as job if I will have the possibility; for sure when I will have to face an interview I will think about what I

    have been studying in HRM and so I will have a clearly idea about what the interviewer will think or will try

    to estimate about me. All of this made this project a very enjoyable one.In my opinion I could have done better my work if I had a better mastery of English language, because itsvery hard for me write by myself in a formal way, learning the language specially talking and listening

    people more than from books; however on the other side its better to meet this problem now I have time tostudy and so to learn, than when will be me the candidate in an interview.

    I am just a little bit disappointed about the time we lost in the first moment when our ideas were still

    confused, because after needed to do more work in less time, but this experience will be a great lesson for

    any future work or project I will have to carry out.

    First of all, I would like to say that maybe its the real first time that I find myself involved in a project likethis. I have never done school project in my life since this Erasmus year in Ireland and the first one was in

    the first semester with Applied Economics. The importance of these, however, is quite different, given that in

    Applied we had to answer to three, maybe four questions: here we had fifteen pages of work and more. Onlya year before my degree of first level, I realize and touch with my hands all the problem that you can match

    in a teamwork but to the other side all the advantages that there are and I cant understand how myexperiences in this kind of things are so weak. I conclude by saying that was pleasant working hardly with

    friends that usually you use to go out.

    This project helped me to imagine myself in a work environment and in consequence our search was not

    only based on theoretical knowledge among books, slides and the internet. Immediately, we understood that

    this work was more real and practical than usual, so sources of information was captured by watching how

    an internet web site is organized, a print advertisement is set, in all their particulars. We said: These twoadvertisements must be as real as possible and supported by any trick, ideas, intuition of evryone. Saying that its the firsttime that I get involved in a project such this, now that its finished, I can make abalance of my abilities, also in a future and working perspective. I mean, knowledge that I gained are also

    awareness of my strengths and weaknesses tested in a group project. I think to be maniacal to organize thework and accurate in the deadlines: this is a positive aspect, but I have to learn to manage better stress and

    teamwork energies. Maybe the main reason is that I dont have so much experience, but its not possible tohave this serious and worried behaviour until you dont see the end. A leader has to be wide minded and allthis pressure are only a loss of energy for all the teamwork. Even ifin the life I dont think to be a soloist andI have my social life, I could notice my suspicion not in teamwork but in giving delicate material to others. If

    I have to be a supervisor of a teamwork right now, probably I would get very stressed, I would pass my

    status to others and all work could result nervous. Instead, I can trust and need to believe more and more in

    other people. I am very happy to have studied human resources management, because its one of the fewsubjects that make me do this kind ofconsiderations; its the only one that see human element inside acompany not as a fixed known value as a normal input (raw material, financial capital..). For human

    resources management, human component is an x value, a range of value among 0 and 100 that you can

    decide to have near 30, 60 or 90 in terms of effort to the company.

    I rate my performance, in general quite good because even if there are some improvable aspects, I could

    notice them and in the future I will match other experiences like this with more awareness and knowledge. I

    am motivated like three seconds before a race car, even if I noticed to be closely related to my system of

    organizing work: search of material, deepening, drawing up, period of thoughts, new ideas, trial, effective

    implementation and verification of result. In terms of quantity and quality of work, I think its a good way toprepare my challenges and I have never had problems with it. To the other side we have to say, that with all

    the positive aspects, there are also negative ones: two of these are surely the timing of production and

    flexibility of method. There could be moment in which with a lot of deadlines and some unexpected

    problems, I will not have the freedom to follow all the steps. About flexibility, its my own process toorganize work with my own steps, but not everybody are like me and in some future experience I could have

    some contrasts. An example could be a teamwork with a supervisor that use or need to work in differentways, with less time.

    I will always remember the strength of a group with ideas and implementation that arrives indiscriminately

    from every side. I prepared and I gave my effort to the teamwork for the project without an own computer

    and, even if the Access Point to the AIT is a big solution, I find myself a lot of time to write ideas and pages

    on paper. The process to rewrite again everything on computer was a loss of time and the organization of text

    editor is not comparable to the disorder of a paper with a lot of notes and erasures. For my next school or

    work project in the future, I take with me the importance of technology as a tool that can beat costs, timing

    and human error. Finally, I will always have in my memory the person specification of the Finance Manager

    that the ABC Widgets Ltd is searching for: new faces, maybe also quite young and without a lot of

    experience, with true motivation and characteristics of leadership, talent, reliability, integrity and honesty,

    without any kind of prejudice or discrimination.

    The profile of Man that could save Italy in this moment.
