GRO-WALL ®ARCHWAY The Pulawater Systems cc Gro-Wall is a vertical green wall that offers many
new opportunities for both interior and exterior designs. It is a modular
product with individual plant access and both vertical and horizontal system
expansion. Drip irrigation is easily installed within the framework.
Pulawater Systems was the nominated contractor for the Gro-Wall
arch built at the entrance to the Leigh Keal Group in Kloof, KZN. Avid
Architecture softened the space and enhanced the front fa~ade to the offices
by including a solid green archway through which one reaches the offices.
Construction ID built the concrete columns around which the Gro
Wall framework was installed. The modular frame covers three sides of the
columns and three sides of the top beam. The total coverage of the arch is
48m2 and the Gro-Wall fits 21 pots per square metre. The beam is Bm high
and has a library rail installed on it to allow for ladder access and ease of
maintenance.
There is no drainage installed along the top of the arch. Watering takes
place at night and is set at a low rate so there is little runoff. The advantage
of having a soil-based plant pot in the wall is that there is high moisture
retention. The irrigation and installation were outsourced to Green Earth
Landscapes and plant design and placement was done by Rockscapes using
different Plectranthus varieties. Green Earth Landscapes received a gold award
for their installation in the 20 IS
SALI Awards of Excellence. (See
article in this issue, also Atrium
on 5th in Landscape SA No. 64).
Pulawater Systems is the
African stockist for Gro-Wall
products.

Copperleaf in Centurion. Golf director Dave Usendorff says the technology A section of the growing farm.
is state-of-the-art and the machines are reliable and easy to operate. Most
important is the back-up service he receives from Steve Mangold and Eric Doucha, owner of Sebenza
his Smith team and an added advantage is that now all Copperleaf's turf
equipment and golf carts come from the same stable. This means an even
more efficient service which helps the bottom line.
According to Usendorff, Copperleaf does about 40 000 rounds per
year, has 500 members and 22 corporate members. The aim is to have a
financially successful club but also one which is a social success and this
requires balancing the numbers.
Copperleaf has 70 Club Car golf carts and a full range ofT oro equipment
including walk-behind greens mowers, fairway mowers and utility vehicles.
