March 2020 Newsletter
March in like a lion and out like a lamb as the saying goes?! Well, finally our
days are getting longer and we hope the weather continues to get warmer.
However, we’ve certainly have had a nice winter thus far, just a few very chilly
days compared to last year’s February winter spree! Inside Mount Carmel
school doors there is much to be excited about! Our Seussical the Musical pro-
duction will be held on March 4th and all are invited to watch this amazing
show at 7:00 p.m. There has been so much work and effort put into this pro-
duction and you wouldn’t want to miss it.
On March 11th we look forward to celebrating our (and your) students suc-
cesses with our second Demo of Learning day. This event will be held from
3:30-5:15 p.m. and 6:00 –8:00 p.m. You are invited to drop in and meet with
your child’s teachers or visit the classrooms.
This month we will be focusing on our Lenten Project, Chalice for School. Our
partner school is Rikiau Primary School in Kenya. As part of this Lenten project
we have been asked to pray for our partner school as well as raise some mon-
ey for books in their classroom. Our Lenten Project will take place with a B & B
Sale, that would be bake and book sale to be held on Thursday, March 19th.
This fits perfectly with our focus theme this month on ‘Wisdom’. In Sacred
Teachings, the beaver represents wisdom as he uses his natural gifts wisely for
survival. May we use our gifts to help our partner school. Please remember
that we will be switching our Thursday and Friday times on March 19th and
20th.
We also want to thank our parents for sharing their valuable time with our Ca-
sino fundraiser. It is so appreciated and the funds received will help tremen-
dously with providing strong resources for our students to learn with. We wish
you all a fun family filled Spring break period from March 21—March 29th,
classes resume on March 30th.
Sincerely,
Pat Lema Principal

Soccer Academy has enjoyed playing at the Scottish Dome this month. We also tried out our new "Fitlight'" program. This is an excellent program to improve agility, reaction time and more. All of which improve indi-vidual skills helping players excel in their game. The players love it and are excited to use it again.
We are now accepting new applications for the 2020-21 Soccer Academy. Please contact Dawn Poulin-Biro for more information and to set up your shadow date. 780-433-1062 or [email protected] or www.ourladyofmountcarmel.ecsd.net

Hockey Academy
Edmonton Minor Hockey playoffs are right around the corner. If you feel your son or daughter may need a day off from the academy, please inform us via email ahead of time so that we can plan accordingly.
Once the 2019-20 hockey season is over, we like to shift our on and off-ice focuses. We realize that the hockey season can be a grind to both players and their families, so we try to tailor our programming for the rest of the school year to reflect the change of pace. In the upcoming spring, we will be planning more off-ice incentive days and focusing on more forward and defenseman specific drills and skills on the ice.

The Rosary Club
at
Mount Carmel
Our Parent Committee with support from our teachers will be offering the Rosary Club
for our students at Mount Carmel. The Club will be meeting afterschool on Thursdays from 12:05 to 2:30 p.m. The Club will begin with a shared meal. However, if your child
has dietary issues, please provide them with a lunch. The student will be responsible for snacks and drinks. A donation towards the luncheon of a loonie or toonie would be appreciated. The club will go to 2:30 p.m., parents are responsible for their child to be
picked up. We are hoping for two groups with this club, Grade 1 to Grade 4 and Grade 5 to 9. If your child has their own rosary, we recommend they bring it. We do have extra rosaries for any child who requires one. Behaviour is expected to be exceptional. Please
speak with your child regarding focus, engagement, and manners. We encourage question and involvement if it is on topic. Our Blessed Mother gave the rosary to Saint Dominic as a
sword, so we need chivalrous knights and noble ladies. Parents are welcome to join in on this activity!
Registration forms are available now. If you have any questions,
please contact the school at 780-433-1062.

School Council
Hello Mount Carmel Parents,
March is a busy month for our Parent Council team. We begin our month
with a Casino Fundraiser. This activity brings in significant funds to sup-
port learning resources for our children. Last year it helped the school with
Chromebooks, music and band resources, books in the classroom, I-Pads
and much more. We thank all the volunteers who are generously sharing
their time (even into the wee hours of the morning) to help us with our Casi-
no.
If you are going to Boston Pizza, please remember to save and
turn in your receipts-itemized bills from Boston Pizza for Jan.1,
2020 - June 26, 2020. Boston Pizza offers cash back to our
school for each receipt which is submitted. Just a note that the
receipts must be from a BP in the Edmonton and nearby areas.
The Family Dance had a wonderful turnout this year! We would like to
thank all the parents who helped out and supported our Silent Auction. To-
gether we raised almost $2000.00!
Shrove Tuesday was a great success. It is
a time of the year which all our MTC stu-
dents and staff look forward to. Thank
you to all the parents who helped by pre-
paring sausages and serving pancakes.
Well done everyone!
Upcoming Healthy Hot Lunch days:

their heat and 76th overall out of 300 teams. Bauer L. came in 38th in the Boys 800m and advances to the Semifinals. Jacob Moon
Our school enjoyed listening to the music and
message of Jacob Moon on February 11th.
Throughout his performance he shared a mes-
sage of growing in relationship with our God and
helping each other on this journey. He invited
several students to join him in the spotlight and
be an active part of the performance. His music
was uplifting and he held all MTC students at-
tention throughout. We would like to thank our
School Advisory Council for providing funding
and support for this motivating performance.
The Chaplain’s Corner
Blessings Mount Carmel Families,
February was an amazing month in which our students performed so
many Acts of Kindness from making posters, letters to doing good deeds for
each other. It was wonderful to see! As Jesus states, “whatever you do for
the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” (Matthew
25:40). As we continue to incorporate the Sacred Teachings of the Eagle
which focus on love, we will be introducing the teachings of the Beaver with
a focus on wisdom. A perfect opportunity to reflect as we prepare for our
Demo of Learning and JH Interviews.
The season of Lent is upon us and we encourage our families to follow
the three traditional rules of Lent. 1. Fasting, giving some-
thing up such as sweets, candy, video and/or television time
and no meat on Fridays. 2. Prayer, our God wants to be re-
lationship with us and adding extra prayer time helps foster
this. Maybe extra prayer before meals, bed, and even sport
would help each of us with developing a stronger relation-
ship with our God. Finally, the third item is almsgiving in which we are
called to share our gifts of time, talent and treasure. This month at Mount
Carmel we will be reaching out to our Chalice partner school, Rikiau Prima-
ry school in Kenya. Rikiau Primary school is located in the lower part of Me-
ru county and presently has an enrollment of 336 children from Kindergar-
ten to grade 9. The school is requesting prayers and books to be shared. On
March 19th we will be having a B & B day. Book sale and bake sale to help
support our partner school. It would be wonderful to raise
$3.00/student?!
We wish you and your family a very
restful Spring Break during the week of
March 23rd to 27th. Bonding with family
is so important for all of us.
God Bless
