WS Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we approach the season of “Thanks,” the staff here at West
Freehold would like to acknowledge some very special groups of
people who continue to contribute to the outstanding reputation
of our school.
Our Parent Teacher Organization has done so much for our students and staff and continues to raise
funds for new initiatives and programs that foster high levels of learning. Recently, our school’s Third
Annual Golf Classic raised funds in excess of $13,000. Special thanks to all who participated, donated,
and supported the event as it was truly an awesome day. In addition to this event, our annual “Trunk or
Treat” activity had an enormous level of participation. Over four hundred participants filled the parking
lot and gymnasium on this day. Students and parents enjoyed a great day of “trick or treating” and then
followed up with some refreshments and dancing in our school’s gymnasium. It is events such as these
that truly make our school a special place.
We would also like to take this opportunity to thank our fabulous staff here at the West Freehold School
for their commitment to providing our children with a high quality education. As the demands on our
students increase each and every year, our teachers continue to work diligently to develop new and
innovative ways to advance the teaching and learning process. It is a pleasure to work with this out-
standing group of professionals.
As always, thank you for your continued support. Please enjoy your Thanksgiving Holiday. Have a great
November!
Sincerely,
Edward Aldarelli Patricia Somma
Principal Supervisor
Greetings From Guidance
Hello Everyone! Please remember to visit my web page periodically for the latest up-dates. A special “Thank You” to Mrs. Layman and the students and staff who participated in making WFS’s “Week of Respect” video. It came out great! I’d like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving! Sincerely, Anessa Perry
Dear WFS Families, October was a busy month at WFS!! Trunk or Treat was a huge success again this year. We had over 500 people come to our Monster Bash dance party. A big thank you to everyone that helped out that night. The kids had so much fun. We collected a total of 84 Halloween
costumes for The Boys and Girls Club of America of Trenton. I hope we can continue this every year. Looking ahead, November is a short quiet month. We hope to see you all at our next PTO meeting on Wednesday, November 12th at 9:30am in main cafeteria. We wish everyone a Happy Blessed Thanksgiving and we hope you all enjoy the holiday with family and friends!
Happy autumn! I hope everyone is enjoying the change of seasons and getting cozy with some great books. The first two months of school have offered wonderful learning opportunities for our students. In the library, we have been learning about genres of literature, authors, story elements, caring for books, library organization, and re-search techniques. During the book fair, students not only purchased some great books, but also worked with me in the computer lab to create Microsoft Word documents reflecting on the Week of Respect. During media classes, kindergarten students are excited about books and eager to bring them home to share with you. First grade classes are learning about award winning books and making good choices. In addition, they have been introduced to Typing Pal. Please continue to practice with them at home using the logins that were sent to you in October. Second through fifth graders also use Typing Pal and have been learning about how a book is made, the elements of writing stories, research techniques, cybersafety and use of our online Destiny library catalog. Please check my website at https://sites.google.com/a/freeholdtwp.k12.nj.us/mrs-gravatt/?pli=1 to view library activities and student projects as well as to explore resources for choosing books and navigating the Internet. Enjoy the upcoming festivities with family and take some time to read!

once a child learns to use a library, the doors to learning are always open.” - Laura Bush

The Fall Scholastic Book Fair was a great success! Thank you to all of the students, parents and teachers that supported our PTO by shopping at the Scholastic Book Fair in October. Your purchases helped raise $3000.
The "Loose Change Wars" was a great success too. We were able to collect a total of $346, which helped purchase books for Mrs. Sabo’s classroom as her class was the winning class for change collected. Scholastic is matching our collection by donating 346 books to schools in need. Lastly, thank you to the volunteers that donated their time at the Book Fair. From those who helped unpack boxes and books at set-up, to those who assisted the kids shop each day, to the final day of clean-up, each one of you was a huge part of the success and you are truly appreciated! We look forward to seeing you all at the next Book Fair in the spring.

Golf Outing [Freehold, NJ] – The 3rd Annual West Freehold School Golf Classic was hosted at Knob Hill Golf Club on October 14, 2014 and raised over $13,000 for the West Freehold School PTO, bringing the three year total for the event to over $30,000. International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF) was the headline sponsor for the third straight year, displaying a strong bond between the two organizations.
“I cannot thank the sponsors, players and supporters of this outing enough,” said West Freehold School Principal, Edward Aldarelli. “The proceeds from this outing will go a long way in getting a laptop in the hands of every 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grader at WFS, a tremendous feat! This outing will also help to propel us toward our next initiative… getting an iPad in the hands of every Kindergarten and 1st grade student.”
Principal Aldarelli had even more to celebrate; not only would his school be the beneficiary of an additional $13,000+ in technology for their students, but he also was a part of the winning team along with teachers Robby Luethold, Leo Lomuntad and Michael Dilworth (see attached picture).
The golf committee members, John Zalepka, Jeremy Simons, Mike Savino, Tom Tocci, Matt Dutka, Scott Feldman and Corey Richter, released the following statement: “ We the committee would like to thank all of the golfers who partici-pated this year, the volunteers who donated their time, the local businesses who donated prizes, and of course, to our sponsors: IFF, Specific Technologies, Inc., Excel Exhibits, Mortgage Capital Partners, South Jersey Energy, Colabelli Landscaping, The Family of Colin Hanley, Freehold Raceway, Bella Italia, Club Metro, The Melting Pot, Wet Willie’s Pool Service, Dusal’s Italian Restaurant, Laurino Farms, Lou’s Auto Body, Empire Chiropractic Center, Temple Shaari Emeth, Plymouth Rock, Morgan Stanley, Hudson Station, All American Ford, Sodexo, Direct Success, Univar, Shop Rite, The Brace Place, Pediatric Health, Suburban Propane, Open MRI of Wall, YMCA, Above & Beyond HVAC… We thank you all again, from the bottom of our hearts, for helping our children.”
