Streams for Recycling Waste

WASTE-tO-ENERGY AT LOCAL HOSPITALS and WASTE-DERIVED-FUEL FACILITIES

Here at Greenworks, we work with various disposal agents to ensure that we have the resources in place touse the very latest technology whilst also reducing “unnecessary waste miles” Our agents currently recycleover £1 million worth of energy each year through our Waste-to-Energy (WtE) facilities.

All of the incinerators have heat recovery boilers that provide heat and/or steam to host 7,000 hospitalbeds at local hospitals and the National Grid. Once waste is burned in the primary and secondaryincineration chambers, gases are passed through tubes to the boiler at around 1000c. Water on theoutside of the tubes cools the gases so powdered chemicals can be added to neutralize the residue, beforethe final emissions are transferred to the incinerator stack for steam conversion. Spent lime from theincineration process is also recycled; this highly alkaline waste product is re-used as an acid neutralizer inindustrial processes to ensure that the final waste stream is PH neutral -further reducing ourenvironmental impact.

We also utilise a composting method. This is currently one of a kind in the UK and the process has beenvery successful in New Zealand. The waste is shredded and mix with small amounts of green waste(Grass/cuttings etc). This then creates a digestive system that creates its own heat and works away thebacteria within the system. The process end result is 20% compost and 80% RDF this is then used to power‘power generation plants’.
