Issue 30 Term 3 Week 9 18 September 2019
Good afternoon Parents, Carers and Friends of Greenwich Public School.
Welcome to Week 9 of Term 3.
Stage 1 Learn to Swim Program
Last week our Year 1 and 2 students took part in a learn to swim program at Carlile
Swim Centre in Lane Cove West. It was wonderful to see and hear about so many
students enjoying their classes while improving their water confidence and swimming
skills. The ability to swim well is not only potentially life-saving but is also a skill that
will provide life-long benefits and enjoyments. Well done to all our students for their
participation and excellent behaviour throughout the program.

Congratulations to Chloe I and Summer S
who participated in the Lower North Shore
Science competition on 12th September. They
called themselves the S.O.P. Girls (Save our
Planet) and they designed and made
biodegradable unicorn toys. The organiser of the
competition Alana Wylie, was
genuinely impressed by the girls and
is encouraging them to pursue their idea. Well
done girls, we are very proud of you.

Band News
Both the Training and Concert Band performed recently in the North Shore Primary School Band Festival
at Chatswood High School. The Festival is a great experience for our band members to see other similar
primary school bands perform, whilst playing to a new audience. Three pieces are played in total, one of
which is played by all bands. This year that piece was composed by the Australian composer, Tim
Ferrier. They were adjudicated by Band Directors James Brice (Knox Grammar) and James Watkins.
The Training Band played in the Novice Section and the adjudicator commented that they played with
confidence, producing a well balanced sound and congratulated on their enjoyable performance.
The Concert Band played in the D grade. The adjudicator commented that the band showed lots of vitality
and enthusiasm with good dynamics. He noted that a lot of attention to detail had gone into the
presentation.
The band members enjoyed the performance and showed that they have all come a long way this year!

Greenwich Village Arts Trail would be of interest to the whole school community - it's free, child-
friendly, and a fabulous day out for the family where the kids and adults can learn about art and
how artists work.
