InstructionsIf a project has multiple innovation initiatives applying for Inn-1 please copy and complete the following sheets once for each initiative, changing the initiative number at the top of each sheet.

There should be one summary sheet and one short report per initiative under the Inn-1 Credit. Multiple Inn-1 initiatives can be combined under a single credit cover sheet.

Note: Each individual innovation initiative may achieve a maximum of 2 points for Inn-1. There is no limit on the number of initiatives submitted, although only up to five initiatives can be rewarded for a total of five points. These may all be under one credit (such as Inn-1) or spread among the three credits in the innovation category.

A Green Star Credit Cover sheet must also be completed. Prior to submission all documents must be merged, with the credit cover sheet, into a single PDF document with documents tabbed to facilitate navigation. All PDF pages must be orientated in the same direction and no blank pages should be included.

File sizeSubmissions should not exceed 100MB per credit. Documents should be saved for digital/on-screen use only and not for print/high resolution. Documents for on-screen use should be at 72dpi, with options to compress images enabled. Adobe Acrobat has a tool to compress PDFs called PDF Optimizer

If the documented innovation is complex or uncommon, diagrams and an explanation must be provided to assist in the assessment. All relevant elements of drawings are to be highlighted/clouded (especially small items). All drawings should be printed as PDFs to retain detail, especially small stamps, monitors, sensors, submeters etc. For Design projects, drawings must not be in draft form (i.e. preliminary, Green Star Submission Issue, For Information Only etc.). Construction Issue and Tender drawings are acceptable. For As Built projects, drawings must be ‘as built’, or ‘as constructed’.

1.2 Innovative aspectsExplain why the initiative is a technology or process that is considered a ‘first’ in Australia or in the world OR explain how the project substantially contributes to the broader market transformation towards sustainable development in Australia or the world. Refer to evidence supporting these claims, and include this evidence in Appendix 1: Evidence of Innovation Viability. As part of the assessment, the GBCA will conduct research, including internet searches, to determine whether this innovation has been implemented in other projects. If evidence of previous implementation is found then the GBCA is unlikely to award an innovation point for being a ‘first’. Project teams should satisfy themselves that this is a first, rather than relying on their own experience.

1.3 Environmental benefitsQuantify the nature and magnitude of the environmental benefits achieved by each proposed innovation initiative.

Distinctly justify the environmental or advocacy benefits of the proposed innovation initiative. This should justify the methods used to quantify the environmental benefits achieved and, where relevant, the advocacy approach.

Reference evidence and calculations, wherever appropriate, to support all claims. Note: submissions that are purely qualitative or are unsupported by documented data will not be awarded innovation points.

The metrics used to demonstrate the environmental benefit should be, where possible, the same as those used in Green Star.
