1. How does your Character appear? How would you describe your character? Are they fat, thin, tall, short, average? What color are their eyes? How do they carry themselves? Are they overbearing, quiet, observant? Are they insensitive? Do they cry at the drop of a hat? How do others perceive them? How tall or short are they? Are they human?

You've got eyes, don't you? I'm a big guy, no fancy words for it. Always been big. I juiced back before the crash... HGH, SARMs, betas... But these 'borg arms add some el-bees that I never had. When you're a banger like I was, you get big or die. All those trogs muckin' it up. You can tell which I did. And I'll confess I didn't feel bad merkin' a few of those tuskers. Did this city some good, if I ever did. These beauts came after, when I did some time down in big brown-town. Chopped up more than my own arms down there, tú me hueles?

2. How does your character live? What lifestyle does your character enjoy? Do they live on the streets or in a penthouse apartment? Do they live in a nice area of a bad neighborhood or a bad area of nice neighborhood? Do they live in the slums? The ritz? Did they rise or fall to their current station or were they born there?

I'm sittin' pretty in my lil' pad in Old Beacon Hill. Some A-boys keep the streets clean, and for a few extra 'yen they know when to roll deep and when to look the other way. Never had a probl'm with 'em neether. I tell 'em 'bout my days as a banger and they tell me what's go-goin' on. Call that "mutual respect."

3. Is your character educated? Did your character ever go to school? High school? College/university? Did they graduate? Were they good students? Did they know a lot? Were they the nerd of their class? The class clown? The cool kid? Where did they go to school? Were they from an educated family or were they the first?

Never been the book-readin' faggit type. I sat through the sixth grade, but after that I said slot off to school. Never had no use for it anyways. Never have. First time I need it, I'll let ya know.

4. Why is your character running the shadows? This is the big one. Why is your character choosing a life of crime? While they're breaking the law, why are they doing it? Is it the adrenaline? The money? The fame? The lifestyle? To torque off the corps? Would they kill people? When would they are wouldn't they kill someone?

I could never hold a job nowadays. Pushing papers, running errands like little ants, scurrying along on your useless tasks. Under the magnifying glass, waiting for your turn to get fried? No. That's not the life for me. In '55, I was down in Aztlan settlin' some debts. The Crash gave me a new life. It took my old one, but that's not one that I miss. That life was over. This one... this one I like. Drink, smoke, fuck... and of course the work to pay for it. Can't say I don't like it. Might even been known get torqued on a job now and then. Wetworks the most. I take the ear of anyone I merk... Somethin' I picked up in the pits in Tenochtitlan, along with some ay n' es. Some chinky frag called me "Van-Go" once. Him n' his zipperhead friends must have had their datajacks drilled a lil' too deep, 'cuz they was laughin' like he was some real jokester. I don't get it. Gunna live in the UCAS? Learn English.

5. Where is your character's family? A character without a family is a bit unrealistic. Who are your parents and what did they do? Were you close to them? Were they divorced or separated? Did you have siblings, cousins, uncles, and/or grandparents that lived with you? Did you get along with them? Where are they now and what do they do now? Do you keep in touch? When and how?

Don't ask. All I got to say is that back in '53, I got a new life. Nothin' before that.

6. Who are your character's friends? Who does your character hang out with when they aren't running? What do you do to wind down? Why do you hang out with those guys? Do your friends know that you run? What do they do for a living?

Page 2: Grave 20 Questions

I like to be left well enough alone. If I need a joygal for the night, I know where to find one. I'll chat up the bars if I see a combat biking game on. Me and Dubya don't talk much... we're not the social types... it's all business for us. He knew me before '53, prolly the only person who does that's still alive. But one time I invited him out. Felt sorry for the kid. For a lightweight, that deckhead can sure hold his liquor. Lil' too much of a know-it-all prat for me, but maybe I'll have to give him a call. .... Or maybe not.

7. What is your character's interests outside of running? What does your character do when they aren't blowing things up? Do they collect art? Go to museums? Build weapons? Go to truck expos? Buy clothing or upgrade their cars? Maintain relationships with friends/family/contacts? Gamble? Paint?

I get all misty-eyed when I see a round of combat biking. Makes me miss the good ol' days. My favorite team? Wikka Cologne. [an all-women team] Haha! No, I'm a Red Devils fan myself. Daniel Kilkarny is gunna make MVP next season. Plus, he's one of the only bangers that isn't a trog. Gotta give him some respect, showing out for humans in a sport full of grungers. I keep a nasty Mirage, tuned for acceleration. Custom fit the armor myself. But I never been a gearhead like some guys. For me it was more about the combat, less about the biking. Tried out for the Red Devil in '34, but you can see where I am now. Hah!

8. What does your character like? What does your character desire? Will running somehow achieve their likes? Do they like something tangible (cars, beaches, etc), or something that can't be bought (love, family, etc)? Are the things they like completely different from what would be assumed?

I like blood. I like mayhem. I like cruisin' down Michigan Avenue and pretending I'm juliannin' every slot on the road. I like the occasional pit fight. I really like it when the other guy is losing, and pulls a shiv on me, or even some cyberblade thinkin' he's the first frag to ever try that. Hah! Think again.

9. What scares your character? What is your character afraid of? Is it an idea? A type of character? An action? A critter or animal? Losing their status? Why does that particular thing scare your character?

Ain't nothin' scare me. Once you've seen the shit I've seen, ain't nothin' don't phase you. Remember those words.

10. What is your character's biggest dream? What is the pinnicle of your character's existance? What is the one thing they want to do/have/achieve before they die? Is the dream obtainable?

Hmm... I'd really love to fuck that gal I see in all those trids. What's her name? Ari something-er-other. That's my dream.

11. Where is your character from? More than just a name, where was your character born? Was it a rich area or poor area? Where do they consider themselves to be from and what are their values? Are they from far away or nearby? If they live in Seattle, which neighborhood?

I was born in Frisco, back when it was still called that. You kids wouldn't remember. That was back in '15. Waaay back. Before the first crash. Before people jacked in. Before corps ruled everythin' and everyone. You kids grew up after that. You probably think all this is natural. How time flies...

12. What is your character's name? What name were they born with and what are they called now? Why are they called that? Was the name a joke, something serious, something meaningful, something intelligent? Is their family name known?

Call me Grave. Short for Jack Graves. That's all you need to know.

13. Has your character ever been married? Are they in a serious relationship? Have they ever been? Are they divorced, separated, or estranged? What kind of relationship is it? Is this someone they care about? A support structure? An advisor? An anchor? Or someone that holds them back? Does the significant other know that the character runs? If they do, what do they think about it? If they don't, how does your character hide this fact?

Never been the marryin' type. I try to not get too close to the slags I pick up neether. Don't want no one getting the wrong idea.

14. How old is your character? Why is your character running at this age? What have they lived through that influenced them? Do they see themselves as teachers, students, or outsiders?

I'm 58. A geezer, compared to you younguns. Do you even say that anymore? "Geezer?" Frag... I've lived through too much to go back to a regular life. I'll run 'til I die, I reckon. Ain't nothing more to it. Nothin's left for me, back there.

15. Does your character have a "real" job? How does the character balance their "real" life and that of a shadowrunner? What is their real job? Does it bring in money? How many hours do they work in their real job? What would happen if their secret life was ever discovered? Who are the character's coworkers and how well do they know your character?

A real job? Me? You must be kiddin'.

16. What are your character's beliefs? Is your character religious? Which religion, if any? Why do they believe that way? How do they see the world around them and how do they perceive the other races?

Never had much use for God or church. He never answered none of my prayers. If I ever do make it to heaven, I'll rip the fucker's head off for what he put me through.

I dunno what caused it, but it ain't natural. The SURGEs and goblinization and all that. Disgusts me to look at 'em. Just thinkin' they used to be like you 'n me. Don't go spreadin' this on the 'Trix, but if you can believe it I was even part of the Hand of Five back when we pulled the Night of Rage. I was jus' a bruiser at the time, never got into the pol'tics of it. But never you think that I ain't downloaded my fair share of gruks. Elves... elves ain't too hard on the eyes, though. An' sometimes I'm into that freaky pointy-ear shit.

17. What are your character's morals? Where does your character "draw the line?" Who does your character defend and why? Who do they hate? What are they willing to do on a run? What would they do for money? Under what situations would they kill someone or let them live? Do they try to avoid death and destruction or do they thrive on it?

My only rule is that if you cross me, I will hunt you down. No matter how long it takes. I will find you. Remember that. That bein' said... I don't like to see kids get hurt. Some cybered maggot? Naw, I talkin' real kids. I'm no poet, but their blood isn't the same color. Know what I mean?

18. Would your character ever stop running? Would it take some horrific event? Would they need a certain amount of money? Accomplish some task? Take out a person or raise them to power? Do they have a higher purpose or will they always run?

Like I said—run 'til I die, I figure.

19. Who would play your character in the “Shadowrun Movie?” Take into consideration awesome makeup and special effects to make your character look just right.

Page 4: Grave 20 Questions

Ian McShane, or Liam Neeson.

20. Why should other Shadowrunners want to run with you?

Business tends to figure itself out when I'm around.
