I want to thank all the Brother Knights who showed up in response to Fr. Pat’s call to help move one of his Pope John Paul teachers. Although the planned date was pushed back to a Thursday, we were able to get enough people, along with some students from PJP, to get the move accomplished.
As we move into August, summer will be ending for the kids, but not the heat, as they resume school. This means an increase of activities around the schools so be careful driving. It also means an increase in our Knights of Columbus activities. Mark your calendars for August 13th. The Council will be sponsoring a Family Bowling event at Bowling USA on Brownswitch Rd, for 1:00 PM. Bring the family and come out for a fun afternoon. Our next Corporate Communion is Sunday, August 20th, at the 6:00 PM Mass. I encourage all Brothers who attend this Mass to wear their Knights of Columbus shirt and name badge to show your support. The Squires and Roses will be having a Back to School/Summer Fun Day behind the FLC on Sun-day, August 27th after the 11:00 AM mass. All are invited to attend. As part of this fun day, the Council will be hosting the Soccer Challenge for all children. Finally, please note that the next Formation (2nd) and Knighthood (3rd) Degrees will be held in Lacombe on October 7, 2017. Information with details will be distributed soon. Take advantage of a Major Degree this close to our area. There have been changes to the 2nd/3rd degrees in the past few years so it's also a good opportunity for all current 3rd degree members to attend as guests, support their brother knights, and see the new exemplifications. BOTTLES AND BALLS BEGINS AT THE AUGUST 17TH
MEETING
It’s time to start bringing in packages of golf balls or bottles of wine to
be used as Door Prizes for the Golf Tournament. We will start col-
lecting these items at the August 17th Council Meeting. We will need to
collect at least 125 door prizes and this has been a successful way for
us to gather a large number of those prizes. Please remind your fellow
Brother Knights to get involved.
Family
Take a break from the August heat and spend an afternoon at Bowling U.S.A. on Brownswitch Road, Sunday August 13th starting at 1:00 pm. Bring the family. Games are $3.50 and shoe rental is $3.00. If you haven’t already signed up, please let Tom Stein [email protected] know so he can work with the Bowling alley to reserve lanes.
DESTIN TRIP:
Our KC fun in the sun is scheduled for the weekend of September 21-25, 2017 at the Sundestin Beach Re-sort.
Room rates range from $145 to $225 per night. To make reservations call Wyndham Vacation Rentals, 800-380-4808 and mention K.C. code #S1120. You can also contact Jack Pecot for further details.
BONCO:
We are planning for a Bunco event sometime in September or early October.
CHRISTMAS:
Christmas is only 5 months away and we are already working with the office in securing dates for our Christmas party and Santa with the kids. Once these dates are locked down we will let you know.
Tom Stein, Family Director
Louisiana Coalition Against Human Trafficking
Brother Knights,
As we start the new school year and school supply shopping, I'd like to ask you, fellow knights, for a little bit extra for teens in need.
With the new culturae vitae newsletter for this month I found a truly worthy cause. The Free Indeed Home sponsored by the Louisiana Coalition Against Human Trafficking is based here. These are 12-17 year old girls who have been sex trafficked and are now healing from this horrific ordeal.
Since it is the start of a new year, I think a monetary donation to get these girls off to a good start is needed. They are requesting:
• Cash/gift card from big box stores
• Canned foods or boxed pasta/cereal
• House cleaning supplies
• Feminine products
• Board games, puzzles, craft items
Copy paper, pens, color pencils, school supplies
I hope to collect any items at our next meeting on August 17th. Thank you in advance for your gener-osity and willingness to help.

GOOD NEWS! ABORTION RATE DROPS
Benjamin Clapper, Executive Director for Louisiana Right to Life Let's Keep Helping Moms, Saving Babies!
I've got good news!
Abortion decreased by 4% in Louisiana from 2015 to 2016!
This means that ONE BABY who would have been aborted every day in 2015 was saved in 2016!
There were 9,362 abortions in Louisiana in 2015, and there were 8,972 in 2016. The 2016 total also means there has been a
14% decrease in abortions since 2014.
Membership
Well here we go, I’m officially the new Membership Director and I have some very
large shoes to fill but thankfully Warren is just a phone call / email away. I want to
thank Warren for all that he has done as Membership Director for the past several
years.
So far this year we have two new brothers, Lawrence Ochwo, who was our semi-
narian this summer was admitted in June and Andrew Callaway who was admitted
in July. We also have one committed candidate for a future admissions degree, his
name is Jacob Bergeron whom many of you may know as Father Pat’s “ringer” in the Golf Tourna-
ment. Jacob and Andrew are both fantastic young Christian adults who will be great additions to
our Council. There are a couple of other nibbles out there and hopeful they will commit soon to
joining our Council.
I attended the KCLS meeting last month which was very informative and there was one thing in
particular that struck me about recruiting new members. That is, when approaching potential can-
didates, (especially someone you know) ask them “Why aren’t you in the Knights?”. This poses a
question to them that they will hopefully answer which will open up a dialogue where we can tell
them more about our organization and the numerous programs we have to serve others. I en-
courage everyone to take home some of the brochures we hand out and become more familiar
with them in order to effectively answer any questions a prospective new member may have.
Our next recruitment weekend will be the weekend of August 12/13.
Vivat Jesus, Tom Stein, Membership Director
Andrew Callaway 1st degree July 27, 2017.
