This Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) is offered each summer and provides
an experiential learning within the Spanish healthcare system, as well as a cultural immersion
experience. Spanish language education is delivered by faculty at the University of Granada
and students live with Spanish-speaking host families.
Through lectures and experiential learning, students examine the Spanish healthcare system
within the European and U.S. context. The course includes programmed visits to pharmacy
distribution centers, and working with Spanish pharmacists in hospital and community settings.
In addition, a nutrition course taught by the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Granada,
provides students with lectures and visits to nutritional companies and research institutions.
Students experience living in the vibrant medieval city of Granada and have the opportunity
to experience Andalusian culture. Cultural highlights include visits to the Alhambra, the
Albayzin, Cordoba, Alpujurra and the Corpus Christi festival. This course is open to fourth
year pharmacy students.
Students are encouraged to apply for travel scholarships in the Global Education Office.
