This Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) is offered each summer and provides an experiential learning within the Spanish healthcare system, as well as a cultural immersion experience. Spanish language education is delivered by faculty at the University of Granada and students live with Spanish-speaking host families. Through lectures and experiential learning, students examine the Spanish healthcare system within the European and U.S. context. The course includes programmed visits to pharmacy distribution centers, and working with Spanish pharmacists in hospital and community settings. In addition, a nutrition course taught by the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Granada, provides students with lectures and visits to nutritional companies and research institutions. Students experience living in the vibrant medieval city of Granada and have the opportunity to experience Andalusian culture. Cultural highlights include visits to the Alhambra, the Albayzin, Cordoba, Alpujurra and the Corpus Christi festival. This course is open to fourth year pharmacy students. Students are encouraged to apply for travel scholarships in the Global Education Office.
