GENERALINFORMATION

WHEEL FITMENT

Brembo recommends:

• the tires' external diameter must equal thatdefined by the vehicle's manufacturer;

• if bigger tires are used, make sure that theirrotation is not hampered under allconditions of use of the vehicle;

• install the Gran Turismo Brake System onboth sides.

Lack of compliance with these preliminaryrecommendations can result in an incorrectreading of the vehicle's speed or, in the worstcase, it can seriously damage the tire's structureand affect vehicle's safety.

Due the increased disc diameter and caliperwidth of the Brembo Gran Turismo BrakeSystems, it may be necessary to use differentwheels or wheel spacers.

Before starting the replacement procedure,make sure that the spare parts used forreplacement are suitable to the make andmodel of the vehicle.

DIRECCION DE ROTACION DEL DISCO

Es un error bastante difundido el pensar que ladirecc ión de rotación de l d isco vengadeterminado por ranuras o incisiones. Enrealidad, para un disco con la zona interiorvaciada, la geometría de las palas que allí seencuentran díctan la dirección de rotación.Hay tres tipos de palas utilizadas:

• Derechas.

• Columna de palas (comprende muchospostes pequeños).

• Palas curvadas.

Las dos primeras tipologías de palas no sondireccionales, y pueden ser utilizados en la otra

parte del vehículo. La palacurvada , s iempre e sdireccional. Un disco a palacurvada puede ser instaladocon las palas de giro desdeel interior hacia el exteriordel diámetro en la direcciónde rotación (ver figura). La orientación del disco creauna bomba centrífuga. Larotación del disco crea unacorriente de aire que vienebombeado desde el centrodel disco , a través de laspalas, y sale a través de laparte externa del diámetro

del disco. Esta característica del disco permitela disipación del calor.

Además, todos los discos incididos Brembo sondireccionales, sin tener en cuenta la formageométrica de las palas. Los discos suelenestar instalados hacia el final de la ranura máscercana al borde esterno del disco que seencuentra en contacto con la pastilla.(ver figura)

DISC ROTATION DIRECTION

It is a popular misconception that the slots ordrillings in a disc determine the direction ofrotation. In truth, for an internally vented disc,the geometry of the vanes dictates the directionof rotation.There are three vane types in use:

• Straight

• Pillar vane (comprised of many small posts)

• Curved vane

The first two vane types are non-directional,and can be used on either side of the vehicle.The curved vane disc,however, is directional. Acurved vane disc must beinstalled with the vanesrunning back from theinside to outside diametersin the direction of rotation(see the figure).Orienting the disc in themanner creates acentrifugal pump. Therotation of the disc causesair to be pumped from thecenter of the disc, throughthe vanes, and out throughthe outside diameter of thedisc. This greatly enhances the disc's ability todissipate heat.

Additionally, all of Brembo's slotted discs aredirectional as well, regardless of the vanegeometry. The discs should be installed suchthat the end of the slot nearest the outer edgeof the disc contacts the pad first.(see the figure)




ORIENTACION DE LA PINZA

CALIPER ORIENTATION

Brembo calipers are directional, due to the useof differential piston sizes. The leading pistonsare smaller in diameter in order to combatuneven wear of the brake pads. Upon closeexamination of the caliper, you will find a smallarrow cast in place that denotes the direction ofdisc rotation. Additionally, when mounted onthe vehicle, the bleed screw(s) must be at thetop of the caliper.

FLOATING DISCS

Brembo two-piece disc assemblies utilize afloating disc. The mounting system of the discis designed to allow a specific amount of floatin both the radial and axial directions. Brembohas engineered special springs that are used onevery other fastener in order to slightly preloadthe assembly.This has been done to prevent excessive noisefrom the system during street use, while stillmaintaining the benefits of a floating disc.These springs can be seen when looking at thebackside of the disc. Those fasteners which do not have springsinstalled will not firmly clamp the bell and disctogether, this is as it should be. The smallscrews on the backside of the disc are properlytorqued during assembly and utilize thread lockcompound to prevent loosening. They must notbe tightened further.




PASTILLAS DEL FRENO

Las pastillas del sistema de frenado Bremboson de alta calidad y ofrecen un excepcionalmantenimiento de la temperatura y rango. Laspastillas del freno se mantienen a bajastemperaturas aún cuando las temperaturasalcanzadas durante la circulación del vehículoson altas. NO DESMONTAR LA CAMPANA DEL DISCO

Contactar Brembo para efectuar los correctosprocedimientos de sostitución del la campanainterna del disco.

NO DESMONTAR LAS PINZAS

No apretar o aflojar la tuerca de seguridad quemantiene unidas las dos mitades de las pinzas.

NO DESMONTAR LOS PERNOS DE LA PINZA

No desmontar los pernos de la pinza nidesalojarlos de la posición de montaje.

BRAKE PADS

The brake pads that are provided with Brembobrake systems are high performance pads thatoffer a very broad temperature andperformance range. The pads are effective atcold temperatures as well as the highertemperatures seen during performance driving.These pads are suited to high performancestreet driving. If interested in using alternatefriction materials, please contact Brembo forrecommendations. Please note that the brakepads supplied with the Gran Turismo kits do nothave noise generators to alert when the padneeds to be replaced. Pads must be inspectedperiodically to ensure that disc damage doesnot result due to overly worn pads. Pads areconsidered fully worn when the friction materialreaches 2mm in thickness.

DO NOT REMOVE DISC FROM BELL

Contact Brembo for instructions on the properprocedures for disc replacement.

DO NOT DISASSEMBLE CALIPERS

Do not attempt to loosen or tighten the boltsecuring the caliper halves together.

DO NOT REMOVE CALIPER STUDS

Do not attempt to remove the caliper studs fromthe brackets.

MANIPULACION Y ELEVACION DEL VEHICULO

● Antes de elevar el vehículo hay que aflojarlas tuercas de las ruedas.

● Levantar el vehículo cuidadosamenteutilizando los puntos de elevaciónindicados por el fabricante en el libro deinstrucciones del vehículo.

● Para sostener el vehículo se aconsejautilizar el gato siguiendo las indicacionesdel constructor del vehículo.

● Extraer la rueda.

ATENCIÓN

Es aconsejable no confiarse cuando el vehículo esté levantado y se estén llevando a cabo las operaciones anteriomente señaladas. La falta de respeto de las normas escritas por el fabricante durante la elevación del vehículo puede causar graves daños a personas o cosas e incluso la muerte.

LIFTING AND SUPPORTING VEHICLE

● Slightly loosen wheel nuts or bolts beforelifting the vehicle.

● Carefully lift the vehicle using the lift pointsindicated in the vehicle manufacturer'sowners or service manual.

● Support the vehicle using jack stands, onceagain following the vehicle manufacturer'srecommendations.

● Remove the wheel.

CAUTION

Do not rely on the jack to support the vehicle while performing the following operations. Failure to comply with the vehicle manufacturer's guidelines in lifting and supporting the vehicle can lead to injury, death, and/or property damage.




INDICATOR DE DESGASTE PASTILLAS

NOTA

Este procedimiento es solo aplicable en los vehículos que estén equipados con un indicador electrónico del desgaste de las pastillas. Si su vehículo no está aquipado asi vaya al apartado RECAMBIO DE PIEZAS ORIGINALES.

● Desconectar el cable indicador deldesgaste del arnés del vehículo .

● Introducir las llaves en el bloque dearranque y girar a la posición deencendido,sin hacer arrancar el motor.

BYPASSING BRAKE PAD WEAR SENSOR

NOTE

This procedure is only applicable to those vehicles equipped with an electronic pad wear indicator. If your vehicle is not so equipped, skip to ORIGINAL COMPONENT REMOVAL.

● Disconnect the wear indicator cable from the vehicle harness .

● Insert the key into the ignition and turn tothe engine on position, without starting theengine.

● Verificar el estado de la luz testigo deindicación de desgaste de las pastillas.Si la luz queda encendida hay que seguirel siguiente procedimiento; en casocontrario girar la llave de encendido a laposición de motor apagado y asegurarseque el arnés del vehículo quede fuerade alcance, para que no quede atrapadoo estirado cuando se mueve el volante. Esaconsejable utilizar lazos para fijarlo.Pasar al apartado de RECAMBIO PIEZASORIGINALES.

● Girar la llave de encendido en la direccionde arranque del motor.

● Cortar el cable del indicador dedesgaste a 3 o 4 cm de la clavija .

● If the pad wear indicator lamp illuminateson the instrument cluster, perform thefollowing steps; otherwise, turn the ignitionkey to the engine off position, and securethe vehicle harness so that it is out ofthe way, and won't become stretched orentangled during suspension and steeringmovement. This is best accomplishedusing "zip" ties. Skip to ORIGINALCOMPONENT REMOVAL.

● Turn the ignition key to the engine offposition.

● Cut the wear indicator cable 3 to 4cm from the connector .

● Conectar los dos extremos de los hilosdel cable y aislar cuidadosamente.

● Connect the two ends of the cable and insulate using electrical tape or heat-shrink tubing.

● Reconnect the cable to the vehicleharness .

● Turn the ignition key to the engine onposition, without starting the engine.

● Ensure that the pad wear indicator lampon the instrument cluster remains off. If itstill illuminates, re-check electricalconnections from the previous steps.

● Locate and remove any screws or boltsholding the original brake disc to the hub.Remove the original disc from the hub.If the disc is difficult to remove, there maybe a threaded hole in the hub face of thebrake disc to aid in its removal. In thesecases, thread a bolt with the correct sizeand pitch into this hole until it pushes thedisc off the hub face. In the absence of ahole of this type, or a suitable bolt, use arubber mallet to tap the back side of thedisc at several points around itscircumference until it is freed from the hubface. NOTE

Brembo recommends that the disc runout measurement be performed upon installation of the new disc. This is to ensure that the vehicle hub/upright/bearing is in perfect working order. If a vibration problem should be present, and this procedure has not followed due to lack of availability of the proper tools and equipment, take the vehicle to a facility capable of performing these measurements.

● If your system uses lug mount calipers,skip to step . Refer to the diagram included with the system for proper bracketorientation. Install the bracket on theknuckle using the bolts that mountedthe original caliper. If the original bolts aredamaged in any way, purchasereplacements from your vehiclemanufacturer's parts department. ● Place the magnetic base for the dialindicator solidly on the vehicleensuring that it will not move during themeasurement taking procedure. Place thedial indicator needle on the inboardbraking surface of the disc approximately 3-5mm from the outer edgeof the disc. Ensure that the needle will notcontact a hole or slot in the disc whenrotated.

● Turn the disc through a full revolution. Thetotal oscillation of the indicator should notexceed 0.07mm (0.003 inch).

● If the disc runout exceeds this value, it maybe possible to reduce it by indexing the discon the hub face. However, if your vehicleutilizes bolts or screws to secure the disc tothe hub, this will not be possible. In thosecases where indexing is possible, repeatthe above measurement for each indexincrement.

● Slide the new caliper over the discand the studs on the bracket . Installone washer and one nut ontoeach stud. These nuts are self-locking andhave an oval crossection, they do notrequire thread lock compound. Torqueeach nut to 115 Nm (80 ft•lbs). If yoursystem uses lug mount calipers, securethem to the knuckle using the bolts thatmounted the original caliper. If theoriginal bolts are damaged in any way,purchase replacements from your vehiclemanufacturer's parts department. Torqueto the vehicle manufacturer's specificationfor brake caliper mounting.

Do not apply sealant or thread lock to any brake line connections.

BRAKE BLEEDING PROCEDURE

Air trapped in the brake circuit severely hampers its function. The bleeding procedure must be carefully performed.

Despite the proper execution of the bleeding procedure, there may be small air bubbles trapped in the small gap between the pistons and the piston bores in the caliper. Use caution to ensure that no damage is caused to the caliper or pads if performing the procedure in this manner.

PRUEDA DE PASTILLAS Y DISCOS NUEVOS

ATENCIÓN

Proceder con precaución. No utilizar el sistema de frenos hasta que la ejecución del procedimiento de sustitución no ha sido terminado.

● Cuando el vehículo se encuentreestacionado, bombear los frenos paraprobar la firmeza del pedal.

BEDDING NEW PADS AND DISCS

CAUTION

Proceed with caution. Do not use brake system heavily until the following procedure has been completed.

● While vehicle is stationary, pump brakes toensure a firm pedal.

● Drive vehicle cautiously to test fit andfunction.

● Brakes should be smooth, with novibrations, judder, etc.

● Drive the vehicle to a remote area andperform at least 30 brake applications of3 second duration. Use light/mediumdeceleration with varying starting speeds.Leave at least ½ mile between each brakeapplication.

● The purpose of this procedure is togradually increase the temperature in thecomponents without thermal shock, and tomate the brake pad and disc frictionsurfaces.

● After the repeated stops, drive the vehiclefor several miles with little or no braking inorder to adequately cool the components.

● The system is now ready for normal use.
