Resume gradually, starting
with LS2, accelerator and
detector upgrades, urgent site
and building work.
- Number of people on sites include CERN’s personnel as well as contractors.
- Personnel involved in LS2, accelerator and detector upgrades, urgent site and building work
will come back gradually as of 18th May.
- The rest of personnel will come back gradually as of 2nd week of June.
- Personnel will be called by supervisors

LS2 and Projects structures are maintained
- Using an identical scheme as for Safety coordination since have
demonstrated efficiency.
- All meetings will continue as before the partial CERN closure, remote
connection will be systematically proposed.
WITH, additional measures linked to COVID-19
- Health & Safety protection of workers according to COVID-19 directives.
- To be taken as an additional hazard managed by line management.
- LS2 Committee to indicate eligible activities which could resume.
- Based on indications by the LS2 Coordination, projects priorities and
requests from Groups and Subcontractors.
Re-start under LS2 Coordination

Phase 0: evaluating CERN readiness for re-start after Safe-mode and urgent activities
Selection of activities based on priority for the Organisation
Resume the technical services/workshops to nominal performance where needed.
Cap the number of persons permanently at CERN to 600 during Phase 0.
Limit the working places to allow best Safety follow-up: sites inspections, (mini)VICs,
logistics, etc.
Avoid whenever possible to recall personnel from Contractors before Host States
deconfinement.
Management of activities by line management in the departments in
collaboration with LS2 coordination.
Phase 1: Resume gradually. Guidelines for personnel ramping-up ~+500 every week
LS2 rules & guidelines stay valid: new activities announced at LS2C with
relevant PLAN item for validation.
QA efforts be maintained particularly configuration management, integrations, ECRs,
layout database, etc.
Resuming activities going on before going on Safe mode.
Starting new activities shall be discussed with LS2C after checks with line
management of the departments.
Set a priority list of activities needed for LS2 Stage 2 period, including all
experimental areas and projects.
Evaluation of resources from support groups to define their ramping-up schemes.
Compatibility with Groups activities, solving coactivity issues and prioritisation.

Online information meeting: Plan for CERN’s gradual re-start
Frédérick Bordry
5th May 2020
Safety first
- To respond to all safety hazards and maintain
the highest standards of safety as demonstrated
since the start of the LS2.
- COVID-19 will be addressed as an additional
hazard with all the necessary adjustments that
may be needed following feedback and
recommendations by experts and the Host States.

Gradual re-start of the accelerator complex and main accelerator projects
Online information meeting: Plan for CERN’s gradual re-start
Frédérick Bordry
5th May 2020
CERN now has a better vision of the situation, thank you all for your contribution
to the development of this plan.
A gradual re-start is possible, providing a strict respect of the safety rules
and the sanitary measures in place by HSE and the local authorities.
We have to be patient as we are all recovering from an unexpected period and a
unique long safe-mode
Take care and don’t forget our successful slogan:
Safety first, Quality second and Schedule third
Work on the CERN sites will resumegradually. The presence on site of everymember should be limited to the timerequired to carry out the approvedactivity/ies.
