GRADE 10 → GRADE 11 COURSE PLANNING
WITH YOUR COUNSELLOR, MS. CANCAR!
WHAT DO I NEED TO GRADUATE?
• 80 credits (most courses are 4 credits each)
Hint: You need to pass the course to get the credits!
• 52 credits from the required grade 10-12 academic classes you will take, as well as
CLE 10, CLC 11/12, and PHE 10.
• 28 credits from all your electives
*make sure you take at least one elective in Applied Skills if you are mostly taking Fine Arts
electives, or vice versa
** at least 16 credits must be at the grade 12 level (which includes your required English 12 class)
HOW SHOULD I DECIDE WHAT COURSES TO TAKE NOW TO GET INTO POST-SECONDARY LATER?
• Look at the admissions requirements for the various post-secondary spots where
you’re interested in going.
• See what courses they require you to have, and which ones are suggested, but
optional.
• Tupper Counselling has a website with easy links to all the major BC post-secondary
institutions (PSIs)
• If you’re confused, see me and I’ll help put you in touch with an admissions officer at
the PSI who can answer your PSI-specific, as they change yearly
WHAT ABOUT CAREER PROGRAMS OR TRADES?
• If you think you may be interested in trying out a trade or career program, or
simply want to learn more, you can chat with:
• me (generally)
• Mr. Evans (Tupper Tech)
• Chef. Regan (Chef program)
• Mark from VSB Career Programs [ [email protected] 604.992.4963 ] (expert
on all programs!)
*Application deadlines for next years’ programs are generally March 1st .
WHAT IF I FAIL SOMETHING OR MAKE THE WRONG CHOICE IN GRADE 11?
No problem. You have tons of options!
• Summer school
• Repeating the course next year
• Going to college first before university
• Choosing a different path, learning something about yourself you maybe didn’t know,
getting life experience.
*PLEASE remember that your life isn’t ruined if your path to
post-secondary, or even graduation, goes a little differently
than you thought it would. You have support!
HOW DO I DECIDE WHAT JOB OR CAREER INTERESTS ME?
• Do the quizzes on myblueprint.
• Look at educationplannerbc.ca
• See me and let’s chat…I know a few things! Only a few though.
• Talk to your parents/guardians and other adults in your life that you trust,
admire, think are cooooool, etc – what path did they take? How did that turn
out for them?
HOW ABOUT IF I WANT TO WORK OR TRAVEL AFTER HIGH SCHOOL?
• Cool!
• And same as above, talk to trusted adult people in your life about their
experiences to help you decide if this is a good idea for you.
AND NOW, ONTO ACTUALLY CHOOSING YOUR COURSES…
• Tips:
- read my message to you on the
instructions page to help guide
you through selecting required
courses
- Be sure to enter your alternate
choices for courses in the
Counsellors Notes, as the
alternate drop down menu
doesn’t work. We learned that
last year :/
HOW DO I SELECT MY COURSES ON MYEDBC?
• There’s a link on the Tupper website to a YouTube tutorial that shows you
exactly how.
• Or, travel back in time and pay attention to Ms. Ellis’ demo at the assembly ;)
• You must select your courses by Friday February 21st
(remember what Dwight said!!)
*AS A BACKUP, PLEASE HAND IN YOUR YELLOW COURSE SELECTION FORM WORKSHEET TO ME ONCE YOU HAVE FINISHED SELECTING YOUR COURSES ONLINE AND YOUR PARENT/GUARDIAN HAS SIGNED IT.
